Whether or not you are

attending DCON, you

better BEE! As you all know, this Key

Club term is ending in less than

two months! This month is all

about officer elections and of

course, preparing for PNW Key

Club’s biggest event of the

year, the District Convention!

This April, DCON is the place

to celebrate service, further

develop your passion for Key

Club and service, attend

inspirational and informational

forums, and of course, have

fun! This newsletter has plenty of

important information on

DCON. If you are attending,

make sure to read all of it!

Even if you or your club is not

attending DCON, there is still

plenty for you in this newsletter

and at our next two DCMs! Think

about how you can help inspire

those coming after you. What

mark have you left on Key Club?

It’s time to wrap up loose ends

and end this term in the best way

possible.

For DCON attendees, make

sure to read the divisonal

update section for information

on the Spirit Pack! The divisional

T-shirt form is also available for

anyone interested in buying it

even if they are not attending

DCON, or are not even in Key

Club! This shirt is for anyone who

wants one! You can order the

Spirit Pack/ T-shirt here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1RCuk69PJ7coNWnUE0Zy

GQyi8MAmz7ksQI_R3qnCQYTw/viewform And of course, find out who

the next Lieutenant Governor is!

DIvision 21’s goals this year are to have all 13 clubs in their area have active status,

expand membership in the division, fundraise and increase awareness of Key Club

International and the Pacific Northwest District’s goals and projects, and have extensive

communication between all clubs regardless of distance.

However, our biggest goals are those stated by Key Club International:

To provide service, build character, and develop leadership.

Meet the New Queen BEE

“Hey Key Clubbers!

It’s Selina Nguyen! HOW DO YOU FEEL?! I hope you feel good! I want to thank each and

every one of you who participated in the election rally in the beginning of January! You have

all made it possible for me to continue my leadership journey in Key Club, the coolest club

out there! It is a privilege to be your Lieutenant Governor of Division 21 for 2014-2015! I am so

thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead this division! I am determined to bring the division

to new heights as well as improving club relations within the division through fun and

interactive DCMs and service projects! Although I am still lacking in various skills, I hope to

improve and develop into a stronger leader during and after my term! I aim to inspire,

motivate and support each and every member in order to help members, especially YOU,

develop an eagerness to serve the community! Division 21 has grown so much during the

past two years and I hope to continue to grow as a division even more in the future! I look

forward to meeting and getting to know all of you better very soon! Get ready for a fantastic

year Division 21! It’s going to BEE great!

In other news… I can’t believe there is less than 55 days until DCON 2014!! The biggest Key

Club event of the year is just around the corner! Make sure you are following the proper

procedures to register for DCON! It is also never too early to start shopping for spirit gear! Try

making some things on your own as well, like tutus, antennas, capes, socks etc.! The

possibilities are endless! Remember that our divisional colors are YELLOW & black! The more

yellow the better! T-Shirt orders will be available soon so keep your eyes open for that as well!

Also, it is that time of year to elect new officers for 2014-2015! If you are an underclassman, I

strongly encourage you to run for office! It is a great experience! One of the best decisions

I’ve made in my high school career! If you have any questions, ask your officers, me or

Chester! In addition, I would like to congratulate the incoming officers of my own club,

Lynnwood Key Club, Jenny Nguyen (President), James Lee (Vice-President), Monina

Nepomuceno (Secretary), Creesa Octavio (Co-Secretary), Vinh Nguyen (Treasurer) & Peter

Mach (Web Editor)! So thankful for such a wonderful incoming club board!

So what are you waiting for? Continue the legacy at your school! What do you want to be

remembered for?"

Selina Nguyen

Division 21 Lieutenant Governor-Elect

At the January DCM/ Election Rally, Selina

Nguyen from Lynnwood High School was

elected as Division 21’s Lieutenant Governor for

the 2014-2015 year. She is currently the

President of the Lynnwood Key Club and

Division 21 Executive Assistant. Everyone give a

huge congratulations to Selina! Check out her

intro/divisional update below!

A Word from the Board

Hi, Bumblebees! How’s your Key Club going? Are your

members active? Is your secretary regularly turning in the

secretary reports? Are you keeping track of the events that

you guys have had so far? Are you actively contacting

Kiwanians or other K Family? AND, most importantly, are you

working on DCON papers? Your clubs should have pretty

good estimate for the number of people attending DCON. If

your club has all the attendees’ applications turned in,

assigning the roommates or planning for the DCON dinner

would be a good idea. ALSO, it’s not too late to apply for the

DCON awards! There are numerous awards that your club

can apply for, so check the award list! If you don’t have one,

please contact the Divisional officers. This year, DCON is very

different from the previous ones, so the registration can be

very confusing. Please feel free to ask any questions to us!

Bumblebees, make sure that your club has a strong bond

between the members and the officers and that your club

stays active! GO BUMBLEBEES! AND… GO HAWKS!!

Jinha Park

Divisional Secretary

Hey guys! Brought to you live from my computer, there

are several important announcements that need to be

made! First things first: our February DCM will be on the

22nd from 3:30-6:30 PM (not AM) at the Mill Creek

YMCA! We’ll begin preparations for DCON there, so

make sure you are present if you want your very own

DCON spirit package (cape may be included)! Fancy,

huh? For y’all DCON non-attendees: GO HOME. Just

kidding. But in all seriousness, we will have a service

project of some sort there for DCON non-attendees

and attendees alike, so look forward to it!

DCON Q&A

Have a question about DCON?

Feel free to contact me!

What Is DCON? DCON is a celebration of our amazing year of service. It is a time for all Key

Clubbers from across the district to come together to celebrate the long

hours of service, create memories, have the opportunity to learn something

new, and most of all, have fun! You will vote for the next District Executive

Board, prepare for the next year, and celebrate what you have

accomplished this year. Also, this year, we are honored to have special guest

Joseph Vincent perform!

The Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program, KCCP, in support of Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s

Cancer Program in Portland OR., Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program in Seattle WA., and the

Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program in British Columbia and the Yukon, will raise money and

awareness to fight and find the cure for children’s cancer.

The KCCP was founded by Past PNW Kiwanis Governor Frank Morehouse in 2010. His inspiration

was a young cancer patient named Penny. Morehouse worked at the hospital where Penny

stayed. Penny was diagnosed with a brain tumor and required surgery and radiation therapy.

Penny visited Morehouse during her hospital stays and talked about what was happening to her.

Sadly, Penny eventually lost her battle with cancer.

The KCCP is a long term project that will hopefully expand to a global program. Children’s

cancer affects many families. Thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer each year, and

with the help of research, their chances of surviving have more than tripled. KCCP hopes to be

a part of finding a cure.

“The Pacific Northwest is the beginning. The world is our goal.”
