    Biography:

The Brother Code is a dramedy featuring short film star Matt Downton (previous credits include The Elaborate End of Robert Ebb), shot in Thurlestone and set in Devon, UK. The short focuses around the relationship between two brothers, how love between kinfolk stays strong even through the barriers of life and death. Short tempers and strenuous emotions relate a story of actions as the brothers bond through a series of adventures, making up for 4 years of lost time and regaining what they had almost lost. The countryside of Devon plays a peripheral character of the film, with beautiful visages of the West Country and a soundscape of local artists all contributing to create a film that is truly English.

    Directors Statement:

The Brother Code is an amalgamation of all my ideas from the past 3 years, inspired by a plethora of childhood holidays in the south-west of England to the coast. Relationships are im-portant, I feel deeply that those connections between family and friends, even between enemies, are important in life as it grounds you to who you are. You need to retain a sense of yourself as a person, if you get too swept up in life or emotions or work then you run the risk of losing yourself, and its important to equally take time out and relax, but also to step back for a brief moment and remember who you are. This is why I shot the film, as I feel its important both for people to laugh, but to remember the connections around them and reawaken to that sense of life and personal self, what better way to do this than through humour and absurdity?

  • ANDREW DALEY (Writer/Director) His first film was banned when he was just 16, featuring the graphic slaughter of schoolteachers and proselytizing ruffian behavior in minors. N FOR NINJA (2009) was the collaborative effort between a group of friends, a figurative sequel to the successful indie film SCHOOL BREAK (2008) which was lauded in the local educative community, however small fame was not to last as N FOR NINJA was banned in the local county after a first screening, deemed too violent and abhorrent for a representation of the government education system.

In the years following; Andrew has worked on his craft and focused more on corporate and documentary working, shooting the desolate theme park retrospective SPREEPARK PLNTERWALD (2013) and working as press at a variety of film festivals; learning more about the film industry then eventually funding and shooting his first professional short THE BROTHER CODE (2014).
