The Boswells Bulletin Year 9 Cricket Season Overview Issue 141 6th & 13th September 2013 We got off to a great start in our preliminary round of the Essex Cup against Hall Mead. Boswells batted first and got 131 for 6, Green (43) Arnold (33). The rest of the runs were shared around like the wickets for us. The next game was our District Final from year 8. We batted first again against Shenfield and put a score of 123 for 5 off 16 overs and we bowled them out for 102. With Zac Chambers bowling 4 overs for 16 runs, taking 5 wickets including a hat trick. Also Sam Taylor got a very important 2 wickets and one was their main batsman who could have won the game for them. We lost to Saffron Waldon in the 1st round of the Essex Cup scoring 112 off of 16 overs, with Arnold getting a quick score of 33. However they won a tight game, winning with a few balls remaining. We played the year 9 semi final against our arch rivals Great Baddow. This time they batted first and they scored 88 and we chased it down in quick time, winning comfortably. As we got knocked out of the main Essex Cup competition we went into the plate. Our first game was against Campion. Again, we batted first and put a massive score of 185 for 5 (which is the second highest score recorded, the other by the current year 11's which is 200 for 4 and a top score from Brad Green of 110). In our game his brother, Harry Green, achieved 66 in 14 overs, helped along by Tom Arnold with a quick fire 37. Everyone got a bowl and we bowled them out for 88. The best bit of play in the game was when Ryan Brown scored 20 runs in 4 balls. We played the quarter final against Shoeburyness and scored a big score of 124 for 5. All was going well until the last few overs. They needed 44 runs off the last 3 overs and needed 27 off the last 2 and still won with 4 balls remaining. Our final game was against St Martins in the District Final. We bowled first and kept them to a score of 105 off 20 overs, with a good spell of 4 overs taking 2 wickets for 12 runs from Sam Taylor. We went on to win the game comfortably scoring 109 for 2 in 17.3 overs to become District Champions once again. I would like to say well done to Alex Critchell as he bowled consistently well throughout the season for us. Also I would like to say thanks to everyone who played for us - Harry Green, Ollie Prudence, Ryan Brown, Sam Taylor, Dan Cramer, Jon Sheldon, Tom Arnold, Alex Critchell, Zack Chambers, Ash Toomey, Elliot Cranmer, Harry Arnold (Year 7) and Rowan Clark (Year 8) as every player played their part!

Year 9 Cricket Season Overview

Issue 141 6th & 13th September 2013

We got off to a great start in our preliminary round of the

Essex Cup against Hall Mead. Boswells batted first and got

131 for 6, Green (43) Arnold (33). The rest of the runs were

shared around like the wickets for us.

The next game was our District Final from year 8. We

batted first again against Shenfield and put a score of 123

for 5 off 16 overs and we bowled them out for 102. With

Zac Chambers bowling 4 overs for 16 runs, taking 5 wickets

including a hat trick. Also Sam Taylor got a very important 2

wickets and one was their main batsman who could have won

the game for them.

We lost to Saffron Waldon in the 1st round of the Essex Cup

scoring 112 off of 16 overs, with Arnold getting a quick score

of 33. However they won a tight game, winning with a few

balls remaining.

We played the year 9 semi final against our arch rivals Great Baddow. This time they batted first and they scored

88 and we chased it down in quick time, winning comfortably.

As we got knocked out of the main Essex Cup competition we went into the plate. Our first game was against

Campion. Again, we batted first and put a massive score of 185 for 5 (which is the second highest score recorded,

the other by the current year 11's which is 200 for 4 and a top score from Brad Green of 110). In our game his

brother, Harry Green, achieved 66 in 14 overs, helped along by Tom Arnold with a quick fire 37. Everyone got a

bowl and we bowled them out for 88. The best bit of play in the game was when Ryan Brown scored 20 runs in 4

balls.

We played the quarter final against Shoeburyness and scored a big score of 124 for 5. All was going well until the

last few overs. They needed 44 runs off the last 3 overs and needed 27 off the last 2 and still won with 4 balls

remaining.

Our final game was against St Martins in the District Final. We bowled first and kept them to a score of 105 off 20

overs, with a good spell of 4 overs taking 2 wickets for 12 runs from Sam Taylor. We went on to win the game

comfortably scoring 109 for 2 in 17.3 overs to become District Champions once again.

I would like to say well done to Alex Critchell as he bowled consistently well throughout the season for us. Also I

would like to say thanks to everyone who played for us - Harry Green, Ollie Prudence, Ryan Brown, Sam Taylor, Dan

Cramer, Jon Sheldon, Tom Arnold, Alex Critchell, Zack Chambers, Ash Toomey, Elliot Cranmer, Harry Arnold (Year

7) and Rowan Clark (Year 8) as every player played their part!

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory On 17th June I had the fantastic opportunity to travel to

London to see the brand new theatrical production of

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We travelled to the

theatre by coach after school and during the journey, I was

thinking about the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory films I

had watched in the past. I imagined that I would be

listening to the same songs that I loved from these movies,

such as the famous Oompa Loompa song, but I was wrong!

We arrived at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane at

approximately 6.30pm, I was so excited! I bought myself a

copy of the program as a treat along with a key ring, then

waited eagerly by the entrance to the circle seating for the

doors to open. When we were seated, I noticed there was a single cocoa bean projected onto the stage curtains.

When the curtain went up, the stage had been transformed into what looked like a dump with old sofas and rubbish

bins, but in fact it was Charlie's neighbourhood, I was totally mesmerised! This was a captivating start and as the

musical progressed, the dance moves, songs, and characters were amazing. Some parts were a bit different to the

films, for example, when Charlie bought the chocolate bar with the golden ticket in it, he didn't buy it from a shop -

he bought it from a lady selling sweets and chocolate from a trolley she was pushing through the dump. I also found

parts of it really funny; my favourite character was Violet's dad because he was extremely amusing as he immersed

himself into the role completely - his acting had me hanging on his every word.

My favourite part of the production was when they showed the people who had won the golden tickets on the TV

because the songs they were singing told us about the characters. Overall the experience was amazing - I can't put

it into words, I would love to go and watch it again!

G&T PE Boot Camp 2013 On 16th July, Gifted and Talented P.E.

students from years 7 to 10 took part in a

very tiring and hard-working boot camp in

the sweltering heat.

It started at 9am with us all warming up

together. We were then split into two

groups and took part in various activities

including: SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility,

Reaction and Quickness) training; using

medicine balls, kettlebells and VIPRs

(Vitality in Performance Reconditioning). All

these activities were made to be sport

specific meaning it helps to improve certain

aspects of your sport.

These activities took us up to a well-deserved lunch break. After lunch, we all participated in a boxing activity

which taught us different boxing moves and punches. When the day finished, there was much relief that it was

over, but we all still enjoyed the day.

The instructors from DNA Boot Camp, Brett and Liam were very motivating and enthusiastic throughout the day,

making sure we all had a good time but still put 110% effort into all the activities.
