Whether you’ve been in business for 15+ years or are just now incubating your first idea, you know without our having to tell you that being in business isn’t always strawberries and whipped cream. Read these 12 common solopreneur experiences and place an X by the ones you’ve experienced.

Start here.

1. I spent a lot of time creating an amazing online course, but only a couple of people signed up for it.

2. I have an idea for a product or program but no idea how people would find out about it.

3. My clients rave about my work, but when I try to sell something online, no one buys.

4. I’m tired of working just one-on-one with people, but don’t know what to do differently.

No, really! Stand up and shake your hands, your arms, your feet, your legs, your booty!

We know from our own experiences that even ONE of these situations can feel awful—much less several.

You could feel discouraged, like you don’t have much to show for all the time, energy and money you’ve put into a project, or your business as a whole.

You could feel your enthusiasm eroding or, even worse, your confidence that you can create the lifestyle you want with your business.

You’ve heard what all the “gurus” seem to say—that clients and money will come pour-ing in if you just make great videos, create a fabulous online course, find your niche, write a book, give a speech, etc., etc., etc.

Here’s the thing: It’s a lie. And it’s a lie that creates another lie.

Now, it’s not intentional. Our colleagues who teach such topics are sharing excellent strategies. There’s just one key piece that’s missing.

Want to know the BIGGEST reason those strategies aren’t working for you (at least not the way that brings a deluge of clients and money)?

Not enough people know about you.

Not enough people know about your programs or your groups or your services or your books or your products or, or, or…

Increase the number of the RIGHT types of people laying eyeballs on your emails, and you vastly increase the money-generating (and impact-generating) possibilities for every product, service or program you create.

But here’s the rub.

Instead of telling ourselves, “I need more eyeballs on my emails,” this is what we say:

“People aren’t buying my things because I’m not good enough. I’m not a good enough marketer. I’m not a good enough salesperson. I’m not a good enough writer. Maybe my program and services aren’t even good enough. It’s all my fault.”

In other words, you think the problem is YOU.

And believing THAT confidence-destroying thought is true poison.

The truth is, it’s a numbers game.

When you put enough of the right people in your email database (or “on your LIST”), you give yourself more and more power to create a wildly successful business and the life you envisioned when you went into business for yourself.

Now, this isn’t “new news” for some of you. But exactly how to build a big list of the right types of people often feels out of reach for many solopreneurs. We hear that from clients ALL THE TIME.

For some, list-building is seen as too complex or time-consuming. For others, it’s seen as something only the “big players” can do. Or only extroverts. Or people with lots of money.

No, no, no and no!

Let us be clear here: Big list growth is something everyone can achieve. Period. End of story.

If two artistic introverts like us can do it—anyone can!

Now, we’re not saying that everyone has to have a MASSIVE list. But we ARE saying, in order for you to have the business (and the life) you want, you need to have an email list that will support it.

The reason we know these strategies work is we’ve used them all! And we both started out with small lists (and small income). Linda started

with 400 because she bought a business. It grew in very small ways for about 5 years until she began utilizing these 24 strategies.

Monica started with 0 and jumped into list-building right away. Today we both have many tens of thousands of wonderful people on our list—and these lists are growing all the time.

Set It & Forget It1. Create a signature block that includes a link to a juicy opt-in freebie. It

shows up every time you email someone.

2. Put the opt-in for your main free gift prominent on your homepage, but also on every other page of your website.

3. Place your freebie offer and a URL on the back of your business card.

Guest & Grow4. Be a guest interviewee on a podcast or radio show.

5. Be a guest author on other blogs.

6. Speak on others’ stages and collect business cards.

Expert Status7. Create videos and post to YouTube and other video channels.

8. Develop a teleclass and invite your target market to it in dozens of ways.

9. Write articles and post to your blog and article directories.

Buddies with Benefits10. Do a webinar for a colleague’s community (full of your ideal

audience).

12. Ask close colleagues for introductions to other potential partners.

14. Hold a contest to see which partner sends the most opt-ins (increases overall opt-ins).

15. Create viral videos—always include a link to a free gift.
