The island's history is laden with battles and conquests. Corfu

was long controlled by Venice, which repulsed several Turkish

sieges, before falling under British rule following the

Napoleonic Wars. Corfu was eventually ceded by the British

Empire along with the remaining islands of the United States

of the Ionian Islands, and unification with modern Greece was

concluded in 1864 under the Treaty of London. In 2007, the

city's old city was designated for the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Corfu is renowned for its long tradition and rich culture which is un-

like any other Greek island.

Here you will also discover a compact world of beautiful beaches and

stunning mountain peaks, ancient ruins and picturesque villages. There is

something for everyone on the island, whether you prefer peace and quiet or

a lively cosmopolitan holiday destination.

Corfu is a beautiful green island, which enjoys a mild Mediter-

ranean climate. Corfu is a very popular tourist destination.

Up until the early 20th century, it was mainly visited by

the European royals and elites, including Empress Elis-

abeth of Austria. It is still popular with the global elite

however, and in the island's northeast the homeown-

ers include members of the Rothschild family. British

naturalist Gerald Durrell wrote three well-loved books

about his 1935–1940 childhood on Corfu: My Family

and Other Animals; Birds, Beasts and Relatives; and The

Garden of the Gods.

General EnglishA general English course aimed at learners who want to improve all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). Ma-terial is carefully selected to cater not only for the students’ needs but also for their interests as we are aiming to make thiscourse as enjoyable as possible. A weekly outing is also included within this programme and is part of the course. A placement test will be given to you upon to arrival.Minimum stay: 1 weekClasses: 10-15/week

Language Exam Preparation An intensive exam-oriented course aimed at those who are interested in taking a language proficiency exam

(Cambridge ESOL or other). The course books and handouts are provided at this longer course whichwill prepare students to successfully complete the examinations. Private tuition is included in the

course as exam guidance. Exam fees are not included.Minimum stay: 1 week

Classes: 10/week

Discover & Learn: Junior Vacation Course A project-based course aimed at individuals and groups of young peo-ple between the ages of 10 and 17 which will help students practiseand improve their spoken English through fun activities.Students spend their days in small groups of 10 to 14 students, using spe-cially-designed material and worksheets in but also out of class to find outmore about the places they visit. Each day is devoted to the study of onetopic or place to be visited. Two outings per week are included within theprogramme and are part of the course.

This course is ideal for young learners who do not want yet another classroom-based course, and who enjoy project work and collaborative learning. It is also aimed

at families who spend their holidays on the island and would like their children to dosomething creative and fun in the morning.

Greek

Speak Greek in a WeekThis is a short yet intensive introductory course in Modern Greek. Letus help you gain insight into one of the world’s oldest languages. Al-though attention is paid in conversational language, students will familiarizethemselves with the written form of the language and will be able to readshort texts by the end of the course.

Minimum stay: 1 weekClasses: 20/week

General GreekStudy Modern Greek at any level from beginners to advanced. Our highly experi-enced teachers will guide you through this exploration of one of the most com-plex languages. Courses are conducted in small groups or one-to one.

One-to-One

At Andrioti School we offer you the option of private tuition either as a courseon its own or alongside your chosen course. Private classes are for those who wish tofocus on their specific individual needs and wish to be more flexible time-wise.

A placement test will be given upon arrival, and our academic coordinators will designthe most suitable course for you. Let us help you tailor-make it as far as time, intensityand level is concerned.

Club GreeceThis cultural programme is carried out in English and aimsat giving attendees an insight into Greek history, cultureand language. It is aimed at people who are looking intocombining their holidays in Greece with some seminarson interesting topics such as Ancient Greek Mythologyand Art and would like to learn some day-to-dayGreek.

The course includes 2 outings per week which link inperfectly with the topics discussed in the morningseminars.

Minimum stay: 1 weekClasses: 15/week

Literature: From Homer to DurrellCorfu has been the inspiration for many great authors andpoets through history. In this course you will acquaint yourselfwith literature and poetry that refers to Corfu. Homer, Shake-

speare, and Gerald Durrell’s work will be discussed in an interest-ing course conducted in English.

The course includes one outing per week which links in perfectly withthe topics discussed in the morning seminars.

Readings in Greek Literature & PoetryThis course aims at giving attendees an insight into the wealth of Greekliterature and poetry. Kazantzakis, Elytis (1979 Nobel Prize in Literature),Ritsos, Kavafis and Seferis (1963 Nobel Prize in Literature) are only a fewof the great literary figures of Modern Greek literature, whose work willbe studied. Their works have been translated into a number of languages.

The course includes one outing per week which links in perfectly with thetopics discussed in the seminars.
