Ancient Greek Myths• Greeks were polytheistic – titans,

gods, lesser gods, demi-gods, nymphs

• Creation starts with Gaea and Uranus, who create the world of the Titans

• These Titans are then overpowered by the gods

• 12 main gods – Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades

Gaea + Uranus = Titans

Cronus + Rhea = gods and goddesses

Cronus the king of the Titans was so afraid that his descendants would dethrone him that he consumed all of them except for one

Purpose of lesson• This Power Point serves as a

background to characters (the gods) that the students will read about in Lighting Thief. In this book, the conflict between the Titans and the gods will be a central point. By providing images and a video the hope is to bring to life these characters and create curiosity about their stories. The family tree is also a visual component that will help keep the relationships between the gods straight.
