If you did not attend the Installation Rally you missed a wonderful weekend. As you can see we had a full corp of officers, we thank Sue for stepping in. The weather was kind to us. No rain - a little wind once in a while, but we were dry the whole time. We had some wonderful meals, I'm sure everyone went home with some added pounds. We have some fantastic cooks in our unit, Chuck and Malcolm are a blessing to our unit and they worked very hard at the rally -- we thank them. We thank Clyde our Installing Officer for the great job he did. can you believe he wore long pants and a sport coat. See what you missed. We wish Chuck and Maggie a year of safe travels and good times See you down the road. Love from us.

Message from Margaret and Carl

Many thanks ! It was appreciated by everyone! Thank you for all your work.!

! Veterans Day is an American holiday to honor our military veterans. It is on Nov. 11 because WWI formally ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month. It was first called Armistice Day, but later changed to honor all veterans of the U. S. military. ! Freedom is not now nor never has been free. It is paid for by veterans and their families sacrificing part of their life and sometimes their very life to buy the liberties we enjoy today. Veterans have earned their titles, they are a brave and special sector of our country. Some went to war, some didn’t. Some were drafted and some volunteered. Some came home to cheers and parades, some didn’t. Some came home in coffins and some didn’t come home at all. They have all played a major part in keeping America strong and free. The next time you see a soldier in uniform, thank them for their service to our country. They are the shield between us and danger. They are proud of what they do. They deserve to be honored, they deserve to know we are proud of them. “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.” T. Jefferson “For people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well organized and armed militia is their best security.” T. Jefferson To be born free is an accident. To live free is a privilege. To die free is a responsibility. “Those that give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” B. Franklin “History does not trust the care of freedom to the weak or timid.” D. Eisenhower America is worth defending, she is worth saving. Veterans Day is a celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Our older vets are dying. Not one should die without our gratitude. Fly your flag with pride and thank a vet today. We are the land of the free because of the brave.

Installation Rally 2009

By: Frances Mason

Frances with her newly printed family cookbook.

! If you would ask the Delmarva Unit members what was the most special thing about the Installa-tion Rally at the 4-H Park in Centreville, I imagine the first thing that would come to mind for most of us would be the delicious food much of it prepared by Chuck and Malcolm.  The comments were:  “You could cut the prime rib with a fork”, “Itʼs the best Iʼve ever eaten”, and “I wonder if thereʼs enough for seconds”. The chicken was delicious too as was the pork roast Chuck did on Thursday evening.  Carl Morris prepared a wonderful smoked turkey for the pot-luck meal Friday evening. Then there were Neliaʼs hot homemade cinnamon rolls for Sunday morning,  It doesnʼt get much better than that.  All of these things were greatly appreciated and enjoyed.

! But, the most important thing that happened was that Sue Comstock agreed to accept the office of 2nd vice president.  The nominating committee had not had any luck filling that office and our op-tions didnʼt look good.  Thanks to Sue, we have a full slate of officers and Delmarva Unit is in good hands for the next few years.

! Several members arrived on Thursday with the rest coming in on Friday.  Centreville is a lovely town with interesting shops and houses.  After doing some gardening at the 4-H park, some of the ladies went to the quilt shops, gift shops, the farmerʼs mar-ket and other interesting places in town.  Many of our members went to the unique farm museum on the park grounds.

! Delmarva Unitʼs outstanding bulletin board made by Malcolm and Sue Comstock was on dis-play. They did a wonderful job of telling the history of Delmarva Unit in pictures.  Thanks to the Comstocks. Continued on page 6......

The rally anniversary couples: Margaret & Carl and Bobbie & Don( With their Cake !)

Thanks to Margaret & Carl for planning those great breakfasts.

Also, thanks to Nelia for those delicious breakfast rolls.

The highlight of the weekend was the installation of officers.  Clyde Warden installed Chuck Helwig as president, Les Parks as 1st vice president and Sue Comstock as 2nd vice president.  Maggie Helwig was installed as Corresponding Secretary and Mary Ann Parks as Recording Secretary. Frank Blunda will continue doing his outstanding job as treasurer.  New trustees are Phil Cruchley and Bruce Purcell.  The unit members appreciate having these dedicated members leading Delmarva Unit for the coming year.  Thanks to Carl Morris for his leadership during this year.  He and Margaret have served our unit well." At the worship service Sunday morning the answers to “word jumbles” were disclosed and were the theme of the service.  The unscrambled phrases were “Why worry when you can pray” and “Make me a Blessing.”  The service was closed with Herman Dukes leading the group in singing, “BLEST BE THE TIDE THAT BINDS”. " Those who could stay for lunch were treated to the leftovers from the previous meals.      " Attending the rally were:  John and Carole Adams, Frank and Kay Blunda, Malcolm and Sue Comstock, Phil and Fay Cruchley, Herman and Wilma Duke, Chuck and Maggie Helwig, Albert and Frances Mason, Carl and Margaret Morris, Les and Mary Ann Parks, Stan and Nelia Sholette, Don and Bobbie Smith, and Clyde and Claire Warden.
