� ABOUT THEBALLET ENSEMBLE

The Ballet of the CroatianNational Theatre in Rijeka has along history. In the first years oftheir existence they producedballet acts within opera productions and the first independent ballet productionwas created in 1947.� In the following decades, apartfrom hosting great Russian balletartists Olga Orlova and NinaKirsanova, the ensemble alsohosted a number of well knownYugoslavian choreographers andballet pedagogues (Sonja Kastl,Vesna Butorac-BlaÊe, Miljenko©tambuk, Drago Boldin etc.). In the seventies, famous balletchoreographer and pedagogueNorman Dixon became theartistic director of the ensembleand he produced many successfulballet productions in the tenyears of his stay in Rijeka.

� This season’s repertoire offersthree productions: Peer Gynt(choreography by Slavko Pervan),Four Seasons (choreography byVasile Solomon) and La Sylphide(choreography by Norman Dixon).However, since autumn 2003,Staπa Zurovac has become theartistic director of the balletensemble that consists of aroundtwenty dancers at present. Hisidea is to present contemporarydance projects. Staπa Zurovac isthe winner of a number of national theatre awards for danceand choreographic work. He has choreographed in Zagreb, Splitand Ljubljana. He introduced hiswork in Covent Garden, London,with Ballet Troupe Croatia, wonthe first award at 5th Festival ofChoreographic Miniatures inBelgrade and the second awardat 17th International ChoreographicCompetition in Hannover.
