Hello Fellow Badgers
Summer is coming to an end. It is time for our annual
show and tell at the September meeting. Please bring a
sampling of the items you have found or purchased
over the summer. Bring photos of your outings to share
with the club if you would like. Dan Trocke will also be
giving us an introduction to the method of lost wax
carving. We will be meeting on September 10th at 10
AM in the meeting room of the First National Bank and
Trust on the square in Monroe.

Marché, the meeting was called to order at 11:25.

Minutes: None, because the annual show took the
place of the April Meeting
Treasurer’s Report:
Dan presented a full report on the show, we
did well, and we are well solvent!
Announcements:
Dan reminded us of the field trip to
Rockford, IA at the end of the month. He will be
leading it Deb Pendray extended the invitation to
everyone to visit Alpine Gardens after the meeting.
Deb Wehinger announced that we need
something else to the Wausau trip scheduled for
August 27, since Bill could not do it.
Mike Riesch is having a sale at Earthaven
Museum on Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12
Johnny Fay reminded us that the
Wauwatosa show was taking place today
First Door Prize:
Don Wehinger won a special piece of
Petrified Wood from Alabama covered with Smoky
Quartz.
Old Business:
We had a long discussion of future plans for
the two Iron Country trips this summer, Kevin
Ponzio is leading one in June to Michigam, and
Deb Wehinger is leaing one in July to Minnesota.
Teri reported that our participation in the
Beloit STEM program ws a total success, Many
thanks to Jack Hoxie, Jordan Marché, Dave and Sue
Cress, and especially to Tom Gitchell, whose geode
cracking was an absolute hit!
Second Door Prize:
Deb Grunewald came away with a Fern
Fossil from Mazon Creek, IL.
New Business:
Dan will need the Genie to host a 4H club at
the farm later this month. Teri has it with her, and
it is supposed to go to Colleen. That will get sorted
out after the meeting. The base of the Genie is
warped and beginning to rot. It needs to be
replaced. Dan has material, and volunteered to do
that.
Third Door Prize:
It was a lovely piece of Labradorite, but my
deepest apologies, I did not catch the name of the
winner!
Show Business:
Deb Wehinger gave a most sincere round of
thanks to all those who helped make the show a
success. (Secretary’s note: Many thanks to Deb for
the work she did during a particularly trying
year!!!)
Marv Hanner moved that we have a show
next year. Johnny Fay seconded and the motion
carried.
It looks like the High School will double the
rates for use of the space. Deb is exploring other
options in the town
Dan presented an old flow chart for the
show, and suggested that we check what items the
officers are responsible for. They should meet and
brainstorm the show.
Deb shared some of the excellent feedback
received from show attendees. This included some
discussion of the various aspects of the dealers,
including their interactions with the public.

Erich Hessner of the Badger
Lapidary Club passed away
earlier this summer.
Obituary for Erich
Hessner
Erich Christoph Hessner, 51, of Janesville and longtime
Delavan resident died at his home in Janesville,Wi on Sunday,
August 14, 2016. Erich was born May 31, 1966 in Dodgeville,
WI the son of Dennis and Carole (Pittz) Hessner. Erich was a
1983 graduate of DDHS and a graduate of U of Wisconsin in
Madison with a degree in Economics. He is survived by his
parents, Dennis and Carole of Delavan. 3 brothers, Martin
(Sue) Hessner of Brookfield, Wi ; Karl Hessner of Menomonee
Falls, WI and Anton Hessner of Wauwatosa,WI. Nieces also
survive. Private Family services will be August 27th at Betzer
Funeral Home with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Sheboygan had also hosted the last running of the race in 2014 and looks forward to hosting yet again. This year the event will be run at the same time as the Women’s World Match Racing Championship. The hope is that by hosting the events simultaneously it will help grow and inspire blind sailors internationally.

SWAP MEET September 23, 2016 - September 25, 2016 Jefferson Come browse over 99 acres for classics, collectibles and parts to find that special piece for your collection. The show features more than 3,100 vendor spaces and hundreds of cars for sale. The Swap Meet and Car Corral is all three days and the car show is Saturday and Sunday only. The feature car is all Fords; however, all makes and models are welcome in the car show. Admission is $8 per adult and kids 12 and under are free when accompanied by paying adult. No pets, please.
