Round 3 Match Reports

Auskick sponsored by :

It was a gorgeous Autumn day on Saturday when three sensational Miranda Bomber Auskick games took place.

The training session on Thursday involving two games and two balls running at the same time on one field clearly paid off with the spectators seeing some great moves from our Auskickers.

There was some great runs and team work and some terrific goals! Congratulations to our award winners so far this year - Zak Mackay, Noah Bechara, Peter Caroca, Liam Cronin, Bryson Hoogkamp, Bailey Kaye and Zac Pokorny.

Well done boys. Go Bombers!

Under 10 sponsored by :

Another beautiful morning at Waratah Oval and every week sees the under 10s a little more eager. There's still a little bit of the old "flock of seagulls" chasing the hot chip, but with every game they are gaining experience of positional play. Here's how I saw it; Seb - continuing to develop his game. Some great running along the flank and fast delivery into the forward line for a goal assist. Solid in the pack with some clean handballs out of traffic in the backline. Max - More touches every week. Heavilly involved in a congested forward line in the third quarter. Michael - eyes only for the ball. A clean pickup and pass early in the game. Not phased by the bigger players, hard at the ball all game. Harvey - great mark from a long bomb into the forwards. Showed some silky skills late in the game for a clean pickup and kick into the hotspot. Sam C - alot of hard ball gets in the midfiled. Tradesman-like performance doing all the dirty work at the breakdown. Lachlan D - strong clearing kicks out of the midfield in second quarter. In for the hardball gets and good scramble for the ball in the forwards. Xavier - combining well with longtime team mates for a goal in the first. Continues to set himself in the forwards presenting an option with some solid marks. Harry G - some excellent running down the flank. Solid combination with team mates for pass in midfield and run into the forwards for a goal. Reliable under the high ball for some nice marks. Sees himself as an option in the ball-up. Hadrian - good strong tackling. Another one of the young guns not afraid to mix it with the older boys. Strong at the ball at the breakdown. Always in the hunt for the Sherrin. Harry P - a couple of nice goals. All over the park and was happy to kick off the left foot when needed. Opposition coach was pretty happy to have him in the third quarter as he set up a few goals with delivery into their forwards. Alex - improving every week. Gave good chase through the midfield and scrapping for the ball at the breakdown. Will H - Strong groundwork through midfield. Some nice attack at the footy being rewarded with a few possessions and clearing kicks down the flank Blake - solid work out of the backline. A couple of nice pickups at the breakdown. Jasper - Mumford minus the stubble was the call from the sideline. Again, in the middle as the reliable tall man and some nice big kicks out of the backline. Mitchell - always in the hunt for the ball. Some good solid tackling and loved getting involved at the breakdown. Abe - the body of Leon Davis playing like Rene Kink (google that one). Will not accept he's the smallest player on the ground. If there a skirmish, Abe's a chance to come out with the Sherrin. Some nice work down the flank with a bounce and shot at goal just wide. Ronan - went down after a knock in the first, but back in the second with a vengeance. Nice pick up and snap kick in the middle. Some further possessions in 3rd and final quarters with clean delivery out of the backline. See you all at Waratah on Saturday. SportsDad Coaches Comments Our game against Ramsgate was once again very positive. I was especially pleased to see a number of players, who in past weeks have been a little quite, step to the fore and make excellent contributions. It is clear from these first few weeks that with a little effort we have the makings of a good side. If everyone plays to their own strengths and concentrate on helping their team mates, we will clearly win more than we lose. One area for improvements is with our running. AFL is a running game and players have to realise that, you have to not only run when you have the ball, but you have to run to position to get the ball also. On the topic of improvement, I want to acknowledge that I have room for some also. As more than a few parents will have noticed, one of my decisions late in the game made play for our team significantly more difficult. As I have said previously, this is my first year of coaching and is a learning experience for me also and consequently I have noted a few things to change for next week. Thanks to all for your support. Anthony

Round 3 saw the Bombers versing Ramsgate. What a great game of football the mighty Under 12's played under beautiful blue skies. It was a close and hard fought win against a very good opposition. The team stood toe to toe for four quarters with Ramsgate and their guts and determination were inspirational to all the parents and supporters and especially me as coach and was the reason we came away with the win. The lead changed hands on a number of occasions and the Bombers never dropped their heads. This was especially important in the last quarter when Ramsgate kicked the first goal of the quarter to put them in front. The teams never say die attitude came out and when the ball was being rebounded by both back lines it was the Bombers who kicked the telling goal & kept up the pressure to the final whistle. Fantastic work team, that is exactly what Aussie Rules footy is all about - courage, determination and the focus to stay with the opposition for all four quarters of the game. Special mentions go to the whole team but there were some stand outs. Josh Moors captained the team this week and he played a great game. On top of multiple possessions he roved all the game without a break & was full of run all game and the opposition struggled to keep up with him. Luke Kendrick rucked all game without a break in a herculean effort and he consistently won the ruck against taller opposition. Travis Harvey was everywhere and also played the game without a break and he gathered a lot of possessions and took some great marks at critical times. Jake Bennie was solid in the centre as always and his work in dropping back to help the back line was good. Annie Tegg was relentless out of the centre & her tireless work in pressuring the opposition was great to see. The back line deserve special mention, Tim Manchester, Ellen Soffe, Nick Hooker were great with Nick saving three or four goals in the last line of defence and they along with Tim Everitt and Jay Scarra repelled countless Ramsgate attacks. One highlight was seeing Tim Everitt in the last quarter burst on to the ball at full pace when he was up against three Ramsgate players & clear the ball out of danger and left the Ramsgate players clutching at air. Jay Scarra played a superb game. He gathered many possessions and was instrumental in stopping a lot of Ramsgate attacks, great work Jay. The forwards did really well and were constantly moving their opposition around and looking to get to the ball first. Tom Simpson was inspirational with running down Ramsgate opposition on two separate occasions when they thought they were in the clear. This stopped the Ramsgate attack and earned Tom two free kicks. Great work Tom, we need to see that every week. Aidan Mason-Alexander played a good game. He tries his best each week and is always looking for the ball and his efforts were rewarded when he kicked the winning goal for the team, keep up the good work Aidan. One last special mention goes to a player not for his efforts on the field but off the field. Logan Stone did not play this week as he was out injured after a recent operation. In a wonderful show of team spirit, he came to the game to cheer his team mates on which was wonderful to see. Great effort Logan. My thanks go to all the parents, grandparents and supporters who were fantastic in their support of the team and I know it helped lift the team at different times in the game. Heidi Simpson was great again as Manager and Sean Parmenter and Sid Walsh were fantastic in running on instructions and the water to the team. Jeremy Moors did a sterling job as goal umpire and looked like he had been waving the flags for years. Thanks everyone. Go the Bombers! Chris Harrison

Under 14 sponsored by : Miranda 22 14 146 Ramsgate 0 1 1 The themes for this week were to understand our game plan better and work hard on our positioning and control at stoppages. Well done to the boys in the ways they all put into practice the skills worked on at training. Ramsgate were a bit underdone today with only 7 true 14s players and the rest of the team was made up with 13s backing up straight after a game. Thanks to Ramsgate for getting a team on the park. This game gave us a chance to try a few things out including working on our game plan structures and giving players a run in positions they might not usually get a run in. As I said after the game I was impressed with every player in the game. All coaches thought voting for the best and fairest awards this week was really hard due to all playing so well. That’s a good thing though and here are some thoughts from the game about players playing different roles than they usually find themselves. Ethan was unleashed to rove the centre, casually he strolled on in the dying seconds of the 2nd quarter took a mark and goaled after the siren. He worked hard and played a solid roving role through the 3rd quarter. Harry in the last quarter played perfect in the deep back line. He kept his opponent accountable running off when appropriate and covered his opponent when needed running back hard to cover for the team. Braydon took over from Anthony on the wing right before the end and really impressed. In a two on one contest Braydon tapped the ball to advantage and Joel was able to run on and it led to a goal. This is the sort of act one doesn't get a stat for but is the type of play that wins games. Well done mate. Andrew ran the wing in the 3rd quarter and was going really well until injured. Peter and Henry got chances deep forward resulting in 2 majors for Peter and one for Henry. First goals for each player for the Bombers and another round of water with the team song. Matt and Nick ran the centres in the last quarter outstandingly. Their run and carry was explosive and damaging. Jack ran centre in the second quarter and forward later showing us he can play anywhere. Liam and Macca were forward and back and displayed great footy skills in all areas. Dom is always explosive and hard at it and it was great to watch his work in the forward line when not in the centres. Julian, although at home deep forward performed excellently as well deep back. Kicking goals at full forward and covering full back in Jacks absence. Joel ran hard as a roving centre half back working smart ways to be destructive with the ball. Riley performed roles back and forward showing off his ability to be dangerous with the ball and control the half back line.

A few extraordinary plays and team efforts from the game include: Brandon's tackle deep back in the last quarter. We have been told of his expertise in this area and it was great to see it in action. Anthony's turnover at half back, run, carry down the fat side and link to Nick who exploded at centre wing and converted a text book goal. Also what was great about this was the protection offered to the ball carriers by team mates running and space created by forwards leading making their opponent accountable. Perfect use of the fat side and great team work. Our rucks Kristian and Ryan won nearly all the stoppages and communicated well with their rovers and each other. They both presented and performed well as linking players through the centre too taking lots of marks. Kristian also got himself forward on a number of occasions and kicked a bag of 5. Che captained our centres positioning really well the whole game and under duress (meaning he didn't really want to ) went forward in the last quarter kicking a goal after a hard ball get free kick. Our team sponsor Brian from Kenapak put up $25 for the player he thought was most hard at it and performed his role best for the team. This was the first time Brian has watched the 14s and he was unable to single one player out. He decided on two worthy players Anthony and Nick and didn't have change so both walked away 30 dollars heavier. Paid to play, dreams do come true. In consultation with the rest of the coaches Hunter was given the man of the match. He presented and controlled at half forward kicking 5 majors of his own and set up many more either by passing or creating space. A one handed mark then play on in the goal square the best in my mind. Goal scorers were : Kristian 5 Hunter 5 Julian 2 Riley 2 Peter 2 Nick 2 Ethan 1 Henry 1 Che 1 Dom 1 A big thanks to our parent helpers this week. Jason ( Ethan's dad) running the boundary, David ( Brandon's dad ) umpiring goals ( first time and I think he went pretty well ) and Albert ( Andrews dad) time keeping. Jeremy did a great job in Madeleines absence as manager and thanks to Chook, Nick and Scotty for their help running the bench. It is great to watch the team grow in confidence both in skill and with our game plan. Let’s keep working hard to enjoy footy, even though we won strongly and all played well there are still areas everyone can improve on. Go Bombers Cameron

Miranda 8 12 60 Ramsgate 6 9 45 This was a really satisfying effort and result in this grand final re-match against our traditional rivals at Ramsgate, set up in a scintillating second stanza that found us piling on 30 points to nil after being behind at the first break. The Bombers held a desperate Ramsgate team at bay throughout the second half with an entertaining display of team oriented football and superior footy skills. Harley Hill had arguably the best game I’ve ever seen by anyone in a Bombers jumper, effectively contesting at every opportunity and constantly running and cleverly delivering the ball to his team mates advantage from around the wings and flanks throughout the game, and rewarding himself with 3 fine goals along the way, 2 of which sparked the team’s second term revival. Zac Sinclair thrilled the crowd time and again with his strong marking, contested possessions, long kicking and accuracy at goal, coming away with 3 well deserved goals. It was also great to see Justin Maldigri back on the ground, gaining possessions, running the ball at will and providing numerous options for team mates in a good honest four quarter display. The consistent hard work of Conor Soffe, Mitch Johnson and Macca Crossan in and out of the backline continually frustrated our opponents attacking efforts and set the foundations for the game result. Luke Murfitt, Lachlan Walsh and Tim Maher played beyond expectation, getting involved at every opportunity and providing important support for players around them. Tom Logon’s ruckwork was once again critical in providing team mates with first possession. While still awaiting the season debut of 3 of our top players, this team effort indicates a promising season ahead. Finally, a big thanks once again to our regular team volunteers, as well as all who made the effort to fill their rostered ground duties on the day, with a special thanks to Melinda who spent a number of hours on BBQ duty even though she has no connection to the team – that’s dedication, someone sign her up.
