Jean-Pierre Rampal needs no introduction to North American concert goers. He has been a regular and welcome visitor since the end of the war, and has delighted audiences in all major centers of this continent. Mr. Rampal began his studies at an early age, with his father Joseph, a professor at the Marseille Conservatoire. Following medical studies, Rampal returned to the flute at the National Con- servatory in Paris, where he studied with Gaston Crunelle. His brilliant artistry won him a first prize in his first year at the Conservatoire. His profes¬ sional career was launched at the end of World War II. Rampal has played as soloist with most of the leading orchestras in Europe and participates regu¬ larly in most of the major music festivals. In addi¬ tion, he regularly tours the Far East, the U.S.A. and Canada, and has played in Israel and Africa. Rampal has premiered works written for him by Andre Jolivet, Jean Rivier and others. He made his U.S. debut in 1958, playing a concert with harp¬ sichordist Robert Veyron-Lacroix at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. He has probably made more recordings than any other flautist alive. Many of these recordings have won the coveted FRENCH GRAND PRIX DIJ BISQUE.
Jean-Pierre Rampal is accompanied by the following personnel on this Seven Record program:
