THE ART OF QUALITY

Europe is the cradle of global production of fruit and vegetables of certified quality: strict production guidelines, solid systems for controlling production processes from the field to the table, and policies

designed to protect the territory. This cutting-edge system is designed to guarantee quality and safety for consumers in the choice of fresh

and processed fruit and vegetables. The added value of European fruit and vegetables lies

in age-old traditions, typical of the noble arts. That’s precisely why FRESHNESS FROM EUROPE embraces the union between production excellence and figurative art, as the highest expression of the art

of quality.

FRUTTOLOGYTHE WORK OF LUIGI MASTRANGELO

Born in 1958 in Santa Croce di Magliano (Campobasso - Italy), he currently lives and works in Bologna.

His work primarily focuses on creating self-portraits using acrylic paint, nature and animals, mosaics and prestigious glass windows, Mastrangelo is one of the

leading Italian artists of the “media art movement”. He has participated in numerous collective exhibitions

all over Europe. Somewhere between Liberty style and avant-garde suggestions, his paintings express an idea of simplicity

that is never banal, but the very essence of life. Mastrangelo gives us FRUTTOLOGY, a sequence of 10 acrylic paintings in which fruit becomes the protagonist of soft and dreamy images that evoke

freshness, nature and a clean and peaceful world.

10 pieces, a glimpse of nature

that is good, bright and dreamy,

vibrating with colour and sound.

BLOOD ORANGES AND FROGAcrylic 60x60 cm – July 2016

ORANGESRED GOLD DISTILLED BY THE SICILIAN SUN.

Blood oranges are the hallmark of Sicilian production and their quality has been recognised by the European

Union, which has awarded them PGI status. They are extremely juicy and full of life and vitality, like the volcano on whose slopes they are cultivated.

Blood oranges are grown based on some of the island’s age-old traditions, but also using the latest scientific techniques: more natural cultivation procedures and plant protection using integrated production methods, in full respect of human and environmental health and safety. Oranges are considered one of the very symbols of healthy eating. Available from November to March, they are considered by everyone to be a super fruit, one of the richest in vitamin C and with an excellent

folate and vitamin A content.

APPLE AND GOLDFINCHAcrylic 60x60 cm – September 2016

APPLESCRUNCHY AND JUICY,

A TASTE OF THE MOUNTAINS.

Apples from the European Alps are grown using the most advanced agronomic techniques, which respect

the environment and human health. Those grown in the Provinces of Trento and Bolzano and in the Piedmont Alps retain their precious characteristics of juiciness, sweetness and fragrance over time.Apples are the ideal fruit snack for any time of day. They rehydrate, provide energy and are rich in fibre and simple sugars, which are easily absorbed. Due to their unique and exceptional beneficial

properties, they are ideal at any age. They can be stored at length in a fridge, away from leaf vegetables as these accelerate their ripening. Alpine

apples are available from August through to May.

KIWIS AND RUMMINGBIRDAcrylic 60x60 cm – August 2016

KIWISAMBASSADORS OF ITALY

IN THE WORLD.

Italy is the leader in kiwi production in the Northern Hemisphere. This success dates back to the 1970s and it has now consolidated its global leadership thanks to the exceptional qualitative evolution of production. Cultivation is concentrated in areas ideally suited to its production, where agricultural and storage techniques have led to excellent and wholesome products. In recent years, the range of varieties produced in Europe has grown to satisfy changing consumer demand. The increasingly broad offer now includes both green-fleshed and golden-

fleshed varieties. Kiwis are thirst-quenching, refreshing and diuretic. They are one of the top ten foods with the highest vitamin C content, help to boost the immune system and also have antioxidant properties. After harvesting they ripen stored at room temperature next to fruit such as apples and pears. Once ripe they can be cut in

half and eaten using a teaspoon.

PEARS AND PUFFINAcrylic 60x60 cm – July 2016

PEARSTHE QUEENS OF THE TABLE.

Pears, which are a typical Italian product, have their roots firmly in the fruit-growing traditions of the Po Valley, through which the River Po flows. All pears are grown in step with the pace of nature, with particular focus on producing healthy and wholesome fruit. Pears have unique organoleptic properties, which

differ depending on the variety. The most exquisite varieties are: Williams, Max Red Bartlett, Decana del Comizio, Kaiser and the famous

Abate Fetel, considered the Queen of Pears. Pears are ideal eaten fresh and excellent in both sweet and savoury dishes. They are available from September

to May.

APRICOTS AND FAWNAcrylic 60x60 cm – May 2016

APRICOTSTHE INEBRIATING FRAGRANCE

OF SUMMER.

Over half the world’s apricots are grown in the Mediterranean basin and Italy is the leading European

producer, followed by France and Spain. Today, the range available on the market is the result of great innovation, which has led to varieties that are increasingly popular with consumers thanks to their excellent quality. Apricots are typically summer fruits, rich in beta-carotene and excellent natural integrators

of mineral salts, such as potassium.Ripe apricots can be stored in the fridge for a few days before eating. They are excellent ingredients in

cooking, particularly popular for cakes and jams. They are available on the market from May to August.

STRAWBERRIES AND PANDAAcrylic 60x60 cm – September 2016

STRAWBERRIESSWEET SPRING TEMPTATIONS.

Strawberries are one of the most popular fruits in the world, the symbol of rebirth and springtime and European production is concentrated in Italy and Spain. In Italy, due to the presence of different climates, altitudes and soil, they can be grown for a long period of the year. Strawberries are sweet, but low in calories: a 100g portion has only 30 calories.

This poor calorie content is mainly due to the fact that they contain a large quantity of water: approximately 90% of their overall weight. They are very rich in fibre,

potassium, magnesium, vitamin C and folic acid. They are fresh, fragrant, juicy and delicious as they are, natural as when freshly picked, but are also

excellent for preparing tasty recipes. They are available in March, April and May in the plains, until August in mountain regions and even in

winter in the Verona area.

WATERMELON AND LEOPARDAcrylic 60x60 cm – July 2016

WATERMELONPRECIOUS SUMMER ENERGY.

Watermelons are one of the most thirst-quenching fruits available, as they contain 92% water.

As well as being delicious, they have excellent nutritional and beneficial properties: they reduce the risk of exposure to UV rays, those with the reddest flesh have an excellent lycopene content, whilst the level of citrulline they contain helps combat cardiac diseases, reduces cholesterol and helps control weight. They can be eaten fresh, either cut into slices or chopped up in fruit salads. Balls of red flesh are particularly decorative in fruit salads and ice cream sundaes. Watermelons are also ideal for preparing

smoothies, sorbets and jams.

MANDARIN AND PENGUINAcrylic 60x60 cm – July 2016

MANDARINSA LITTLE WINTER SWEETNESS.

Mandarins are winter citrus fruits, similar to oranges, but smaller and sweeter. They are medium-sized fruits

that are round with blunted ends and thin peel. Their flesh, which is orange, consists in a large number of juicy and aromatic segments, with lots of seeds. Mandarins are the fresh fruit that is richest in

sugars (over 17%) and therefore calories. This particular characteristic, as well as the fact they are not very filling, means mandarins should not be eaten in large quantities. They are extremely refreshing and are a great source of vitamin A and C,

potassium, calcium and phosphorous.

PEACH AND LEVERETAcrylic 60x60 cm – July 2016

PEACHESTYPICAL ITALIAN DELIGHTS.

Peaches and nectarines are typical of Mediterranean Europe and the largest global production is

concentrated in Italy and Spain. Fragrant, juicy, sweet and velvety they are the summer fruit par excellence and are delicious not only at the end of a meal, but also for breakfast, as a snack, for dessert or as a fresh aperitif. Peaches are rich in

potassium, simple sugars and beta-carotene. They are excellent natural integrators of mineral salts,

making them ideal for long, hot summer days. There are numerous peach varieties available on the market, but Italian production has obtained PGI - Protected Geographical Indication status, which protects the link between the product and the land it

is grown on.

TOMATO AND CLOWN FISHAcrylic 60x60 cm – July 2016

TOMATOESTHE BEATING HEART OF THE LAND.

Originally from Latin America, for a very long time tomato plants were only grown in Europe for ornamental purposes, as the fruits were not thought to be edible. Only at the start of the twentieth century did intensive cultivation begin in Mediterranean countries, as well as processing and industrial preservation. Italy is the third largest global producer

and exporter of tomatoes. Production focuses on specialized cultivation using rigorously cutting-edge protection and fertilization methods and always follows the European Union’s

strictest qualitative standards. Tomatoes have excellent properties both fresh and after processing: in the latter case, when cooked the level of lycopene - a natural antioxidant that combats

free radicals - increases.
