We, the Senior Class of 1959, proudly present our volume of THE ARROWHEAD. It has been our desire to
store within the covers of this book some of the most treasured memories of this school year.
We have tried to share with you the beautiful and fulfilling moments when we climbed our ladder of dreams,
from underclassmen to Seniors. As we come to the last step in our high school ye ars, our hearts will be sad be-
cause we will leave behind so many treasured dreams, but there are still many realities to climb toward.
May this book give you dreams to cling to as it has for us.

"I would like to challenge you as
students to set your goals high and then
strive with everything within you to
reach those goals. In order for you to
be successful in life, you need to knowyourself and then do your best to over-
come your weak points and to strengthen
your strong points. Through the help of
your parents, teachers, and friends,
each ofyou will be able to develop into
a happy, useful citizen if you will set
your goals high and work diligently to
reach them.
"To the members of the SeniorClass, I would like to take this oppor-
tunity to commend you for the achieve-
ment you have made in finishing high
school and to challenge you to continue
your education. To the members of the
annual staff, I w i sh to express my ap-
preciation for a job well done. For each
student, I wish along, happy life, ded-
icated to the service of your fellow-
man. "

On AppreciationMay God bless you for sewing your seeds of knowledge along our daily paths. You are too humble to accept
recognition and you are too deserving to be forgotten. For this we dedicate this volume of THE ARROWHEAD.

Griffin, daughter of Coach and Mrs, Kenneth Griffin,
Enthusiasm was at a high level as a parade was held Friday afternoon after school. The crowning of the Queen and the
team's victory was climaxed by a dance—which was held in the scho9l cafeteria following the game.

The Old Fort Redskins started out their 1958 football
season on August 15, when the boys reported for practice.
They were looking forward to a successful season, whichthey achieved with a record of four wins, four losses, and
one tie game. The Redskins started the season by playing Hot Springs.
In this game several touchdowns were nullified by penalties.
Pvobert Harris and Lloyd Porter went over for the touch-
downs and Richard Padgham made the extra points.
Then it was time to meet Tryon. The Redskins were
beaten in this game but the boys still had faith in eachother. Bruce Bradley made the two touchdowns and Lloyd
Porter made the extra point.
In the third game of the season, Mars Hill and Old Fort
battled to a standstill as the game ended with a tie.
Glen Alpine was on Old Fort soil for one of the best
games of the season, even if the Redskins were the losers.
Old Fort went to Spruce Pine to play Harris High. This
was a very close game. Bruce Bradley, Harold Hensley,
and Richard Padgham scored for our team that night.
Old Fort was host to the Clyde Cardinals. Richard
Padgham and Lloyd Porter ran the touchdowns, with Robert
Harris and Richard Padgham running the extra points. This
game was another thriller of the season.
Edneyville had the pleasure of seeing Old Fort's Home-coming Queen crowned. The Redskins had another winning
night. Lloyd Porter, Donnie S o u t h e r, and Robert Harris
made our four touchdowns with Richard Padgham going
over each time for the extra point.
The end of the season came for the Redskins when they
played Drexel. Inthisgame LloydPorter wasthe key player.
We are proud to have Lloyd Porter and Tommy Lytle
chosen on the All-Conference team. Lloyd was chosen to
play in the Lion's Bowl game in Forest City. He made a
very good showing.
Everyone is very proud of the excellent team and goodseason we had this year.

Expectations for a winning baseball team were not
too great with the loss of most of the 1958 championship
team. The Redskins proved that they can play winning
baseball by compiling a 7-5 record. By looking moreclosely at the five losses, four of them were lost by only
one run.
Jerry Souther, Roy Robertson, and Harold Hensley
did a remarkable job of pitching. Our defensive play was
headed by outfielders, Lloyd Porter, Bruce Bradley and
"Streaker" Grindstaff; Infielders, G. G. Lipe, KennethCarver, Wayne Allen, Harold Hensley, Tom Carr and
Catcher David Setzer.
The highlight of the season was the two wins over the
strong Drexel team by the scores of 3-1 and 3-0.
The Redskins were not held scoreless all year while
they held three opponents scoreless.
