    There are currently many myths

about the ark of the covenant. Some say

that it is buried under temple mound in

Jerusalem. Others say that it is hidden in

Mount Sinai. For yet others, it is hidden in a

church in Ethiopia, secreted in the Vatican,

or sitting in a warehouse in Washington, D.C.

Yet, if we would only read the scriptures,

we would know exactly what happened to

it and where it shall next be seen!

But first of all, the ark itself and its contents shall be described: Exodus 25:10-22 And they shall make an ark of acacia-wood; two cubits and a half the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof. And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold: inside and outside shalt thou overlay it; and shalt make upon it a border of gold round about. And cast four

rings of gold for it, and put them at the four corners thereof, that two rings may be upon the one side thereof and two rings upon the other side thereof. And make staves of acacia-wood and overlay them with gold. And put the staves into the rings upon the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them. The staves shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not come out from it. And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony that I shall give thee. And thou shalt make a mercy-seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof. And thou shalt make two cherubim of gold; of beaten work shalt thou make them, at the two ends of the mercy-seat. And make one cherub at the end of the one side, and one cherub at the end of the other side; out of the mercy-seat shall ye make the cherubim at the two ends thereof. And the cherubim shall stretch out their wings over it, covering over with their wings the mercy-seat, and their faces opposite to one another: toward the mercy-seat shall the faces of the cherubim be turned. And thou shalt put the mercy-seat above on the ark, and shalt put in the ark the testimony that I shall give thee. And there will I meet with thee, and will speak with thee from above the mercy-seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, everything that I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

2 Samuel 6:2 And David arose and went with all the people that were with him from Baale-Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God which is called by the name, the name of Yah Veh Sabaoth who sitteth between the cherubim.

1 Kings 8:9 There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone which Moses placed there at Horeb, when Yah Veh made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. (Also see 1 Chronicles 13:9-10.)

2 Chronicles 5:10 There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put there at Horeb, when Yah Veh made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.

Traditions have added other items such as a sample of manna in a golden cup and Aarons staff, but the scripture is clear - There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone which Moses placed there!

The ark of Yah Veh Sabaoth was not to be taken for granted or trifled with. When first Israels elite and then the people broke Yah Vehs laws, bad things happened!

1 Samuel 3:11-14 And Yah Veh said to Samuel, Behold, I do a thing in Israel, at which both the

ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle. In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have

spoken concerning his house; I will begin and make an end. For I have declared to him that I will

judge his house for ever, for the iniquity which he hath known: because his sons made

themselves vile, and he restrained them not. And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli

that the iniquity of Elis house shall not be

expiated with sacrifice or oblation for ever.

1 Samuel 4:11-22 And the ark of Yah Veh

was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni

and Phinehas, died. And there ran a man

of Benjamin out of the battle, and came to

Shiloh the same day, with his clothes rent and

with earth upon his head. And when he

came, behold, Eli was sitting upon the seat by

the way-side watching; for his heart trembled

for the ark of Yah Veh. And the man came

to tell it in the city, and all the city cried out.

And Eli heard the noise of the crying, and

said, What is the noise of this tumult? And the man came hastily, and told Eli. Now Eli was ninety-

eight years old; and his eyes were set, that he could not see. And the man said to Eli, I am he that

came out of the battle, and I have fled to-day out of the battle. And he said, What has taken place,

my son? And the messenger answered and said, Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has

been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are

dead, and the ark of Yah Veh is taken. And it came to pass, when he mentioned the ark of Yah

Veh, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck broke, and

he died; for the man was old, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years. And his daughter-

in-law, Phinehas wife, was with child, near to be delivered; and when she heard the tidings that the

ark of Yah Veh was taken, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed

herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her. And as she was dying, the women that stood by

her said, Fear not; for thou hast borne a son. But she did not answer, neither did she take it to

heart. And she named the child Ichabod (which means Where is the glory? or No glory.),

saying, The glory is departed from Israel; because the ark of Yah Veh was taken, and because of

her father-in-law and her husband. And she said, The glory is departed from Israel, for the ark

    of Yah Veh is taken.

1 Samuel 5:1-12 And the Philistines took the ark of Yah Veh, and brought it from Eben-ezer to

Ashdod. And the Philistines took the ark of Yah Veh and brought it into the house (temple) of

Dagon, and set it by Dagon. And when they of Ashdod arose early the next day, behold, Dagon

had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of Yah Veh. And they took Dagon, and set him

in his place again. And when they arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his

face to the ground before the ark of Yah Veh; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his

hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the fish-stump was left to him. Therefore neither the

priests of Dagon nor any that come into Dagons house (temple) tread on the threshold of Dagon

in Ashdod to this day. And the hand of Yah Veh was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he laid

them waste, and smote them with hemorrhoids, Ashdod and its borders. And when the men of

Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us; for his

hand is severe upon us, and upon Dagon our god. And they sent and gathered all the lords of the

Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they

said, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about to Gath. And they carried the ark of the

God of Israel about thither. And it came to pass that, after they had carried it about, the hand of

Yah Veh was against the city with very great panic; and he smote the men of the city, both small

and great, and hemorrhoids broke out upon them. And they sent the ark of Yah Veh to Ekron.

And it came to pass, when the ark of Yah Veh came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying,

They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to kill us and our people. And they

sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel,

and let it go again to its own place, that it kill us not, and our people. For there was deadly alarm

throughout the city: the hand of Yah Veh was very heavy there; and the men that died not were

smitten with the hemorrhoids; and the cry of the city went up to the heavens.

2 Samuel 6:6-7 And when they came to Nachons threshing-floor, Uzzah reached after the ark

of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen had stumbled. And the anger of Yah Veh was

kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of

    God.

1 Kings 11:4-13 And it came to pass when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart

after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with Yah Veh his God, as the heart of David his

father. And Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the

abomination of the Ammonites. And Solomon did evil in the sight of Yah Veh, and followed

not fully Yah Veh, as David his father. Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh the

abomination of the Moabites, on the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination

of the children of Ammon. And so he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and

sacrificed to their gods. And Yah Veh was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned

away from Yah Veh the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, and had commanded

him concerning this thing, not to go after other gods; but he kept not what Yah Veh had

commanded. And Yah Veh said to Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done by thee, and thou hast

not kept my covenant and my statutes which I commanded thee, I will certainly rend the kingdom

from thee, and will give it to thy servant: notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it, for David

thy fathers sake; I will rend it out of the hand of thy son; only, I will not rend away all the

kingdom: I will give one tribe to thy son, for David my servants sake, and for Jerusalems sake

    which I have chosen.

As was demonstrated above, Yah Veh would punish transgressions with death and remove

both His blessings and His presence from an ungrateful people. The ark of Yah Veh Sabaoth was

the point of contact between Yah Veh and Israel. But when He decided to cut off all contact

with unfaithful remnants of Israel, the ark of Yah Veh Sabaoth was no longer needed or wanted

    by Yah Veh!

2 Kings 21 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty-five years

in Jerusalem; and his mothers name was Hephzibah. And he did evil in the sight of Yah Veh, like

the abominations of the nations that Yah Veh had dispossessed from before the children of Israel.

And he built again the high places that Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars to

Baal and made an Asherah, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of the

heavens, and served them. And he built altars (to pagan gods) in the house (temple) of Yah

Veh, of which Yah Veh had said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. And he built altars to all the

host of the heavens in both courts of the house (temple) of Yah Veh. And he caused his son

to pass through the fire (sacrificed his infant son to Molech), and used magic and divination,

and appointed necromancers and soothsayers: he wrought evil beyond measure in the sight of

Yah Veh, to provoke him to anger. And he set the graven image of the Asherah that he had

made, in the house (temple) of which Yah Veh had said to David and to Solomon his son, In

this house (temple), and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put

my name for ever; neither will I any more cause the foot of Israel to wander away from the land that

I gave their fathers; if they will only take heed to do according to all that I have commanded them,

and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them. But they would not hearken,

and Manasseh led them astray to do more evil than the nations that Yah Veh had destroyed

from before the children of Israel. And Yah Veh spoke by his servants the prophets saying,

Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above

    all that the Amorites did, who were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols;

therefore thus saith Yah Veh the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring evil upon Jerusalem and

Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle. And I will stretch over Jerusalem the

line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab, and I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipeth a

pan, wiping it and turning it upside down. And I will forsake the remnant of mine inheritance,

and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their

enemies; because they have done evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day

their fathers came forth out of Egypt even to this day. And Manasseh shed very much innocent

blood, till he had filled Jerusalem with it from one end to another; beside his sin with which he made

Judah to sin, in doing evil in the sight of Yah Veh. And the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and all

that he did, and his sin which he sinned, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the

kings of Judah? And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own

house, in the garden of Uzza; and Amon his son reigned in his stead. Amon was twenty-two years

old when he began to reign; and he reigned two years in Jerusalem; and his mothers name was

Meshullemeth, daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. And he did evil in the sight of Yah Veh, as

Manasseh his father had done; and he walked in all the way that his father had walked in,

and served the idols that his father had served, and worshipped them; and he forsook Yah

Veh the God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of Yah Veh. And the servants of Amon

conspired against him, and slew the king in his own house. But the people of the land smote all

them that had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in

his stead. And the rest of the acts of Amon, what he did, are they not written in the book of the

chronicles of the kings of Judah? And he was buried in his sepulchre in the garden of Uzza; and

Josiah his son reigned in his stead. (Also see 2 Chronicles 33.)

2 Kings 22:3-20 And it cometh to pass, in the eighteenth year

of king Josiah, the king hath sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, son of

Meshullam, the scribe, to the house (temple) of Yah Veh,

saying, Go up unto Hilkiah the high priest, and he doth

complete the silver that is brought into the house (temple) of

Yah Veh, that the keepers of the threshold have gathered from

the people, and they give it into the hand of the doers of the

work, the overseers, in the house (temple) of Yah Veh, and they

give it to the doers of the work that is in the house (temple) of

Yah Veh, to strengthen the breaches of the house (temple), and

let them give it into the hand of them that do the work, that

have the oversight of the house (temple) of Yah Veh; and let

them give it to those that do the work in the house (temple) of Yah Veh, to repair the breaches of

the house (temple), to the carpenters and the builders and the masons, and to buy timber and

hewn stone to repair the house (temple). But no reckoning was made with them of the money

that was given into their hand, because they dealt faithfully. And Hilkiah the high priest saith unto

Shaphan the scribe, -A book of the law (Torah) I have found in the house (temple) of Yah

Veh; and Hilkiah giveth the book unto Shaphan, and he readeth it. And Shaphan the scribe cometh

in unto the king, and bringeth the king back word, and saith, Thy servants have poured out the

silver that hath been found in the house (temple), and give it into the hand of the doers of the work,

the inspectors, in the house (temple) of Yah Veh. And Shaphan the scribe declareth to the king,

saying, A book hath Hilkiah the priest given to me; and Shaphan readeth it before the king. And it

cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the words of the book of the law (Torah), that he

rendeth his garments, and the king commandeth Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam son of Shaphan,

and Achbor son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah servant of the king, saying, Go,

seek Yah Veh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that

is found, for great is the fury of Yah Veh that is kindled against us, because that our fathers

have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according to all that is written for us. And

Hilkiah the priest goeth, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, unto Huldah the

prophetess, wife of Shallum, son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the garments, and she is

dwelling in Jerusalem in the second, and they speak unto her. And she saith unto them, Thus said

Yah Veh, God of Israel, Say to the man who hath sent you unto me: Thus said Yah Veh, Lo, I

am bringing in evil unto this place and on its inhabitants, all the words of the book that the king of

Judah hath read, because that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other gods, so as

to provoke Me to anger with every work of their hands, and My wrath hath been kindled

against this place, and it is not quenched. And unto the king of Judah, who is sending you to

seek Yah Veh, thus do ye say unto him, Thus said Yah Veh, God of Israel, The words that thou

hast heard -- because thy heart is tender, and thou art humbled because of Yah Veh, in thy hearing

that which I have spoken against this place, and against its inhabitants, to be for a desolation, and

for a reviling, and dost rend thy garments, and weep before Me -- I also have heard -- the

affirmation of Yah Veh -- therefore, lo, I am gathering thee unto thy fathers, and thou hast been

gathered unto thy grave in peace, and thine eyes do not look on any of the evil that I am bringing in

on this place; and they bring the king back word. (Also see 2 Chronicles 8-28.)

Psalms 74:7 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the

dwelling place of thy name to the ground.

Jeremiah 3:16 And it hath come to pass, when ye are multiplied, And have been fruitful in the

land, In those days -- an affirmation of Yah Veh, They say not any more, The ark of the covenant

of Yah Veh, Nor doth it go up on the heart, Nor do they remember concerning it, Nor do they

inspect, Nor is it made again.

King Manasseh gutted the temple and set up idols throughout the premises. For at

least 57 years, the worship of Yah Veh was forbidden and for over 70 years the core of the

Bible itself was lost to Israel. If Yah Veh had wanted to defend His house from Manassehs

pagan invaders, He could easily have done so (as was demonstrated above). No doubt the

disappearance of His shekinah glory from between the cherubim was noted by the priests, but

there was nothing that they could do about it (Or for that matter, they would probably never want

to admit that it was gone!). Without His presence, the ark was nothing more than a piece of

gold covered wooden furniture. The Holy of Holies was burned, the ark and its contents

were smashed, and its gold was probably melted down (if it hadnt already melted in the fire). King

Manasseh probably thought that he had proven that he and his gods and goddesses were

stronger than Yah Veh. But in reality, all that he had done was to be the last straw and

provoke Yah Veh to anger so that He removed Himself and His support for Israel.

So now the ark disappeared! When Nebechanezzer sacked Jerusalem and destroyed the

temple of Yah Veh, the ark of Yah Veh Sabaoth was not among the treasures carried off.

When Titus sacked Jerusalem and destroyed Herods temple, the ark of Yah Veh Sabaoth was not

    among the treasures carried off.

Many believe that the blood of the

Lamb of God was spilt on the

arks mercy seat in Heaven. But the

Jews never mention it again in

    scripture until the book of

    Revelation.

    Revelation 11:19 And the temple

of Yah Veh in the heavens was

opened, and the ark of His

covenant was seen in His temple:

    and there were lightnings, and

    voices, and thunders, and an

    earthquake, and great hail.

    Of course, its so much

more fun to believe that the ark

    of the covenant has magical

powers all of its own and all we

need to do is to find it and that we

shall somehow possess control of these powers as well! Mysterious tales about the ark from the

Gemara, of the Illuminati, of the Knights Templar, and other such myths can be so much

more entertaining and exciting than the truth. Hollywood is but the most recent of those who

have made fortunes or gained power by perpetuating old or creating new myths about the

ark. But the truth is that only the presence (shekinah glory) of Yah Veh Himself gave His

ark power. And when He finally left the temple in Jerusalem, any power that the ark had left
