THE  HEART  OF  THE  MATTER    Social   entrepreneurship   marries   the  innovation   and  management   approach  of   business   with   the   thoughtful   care  and   commitment   of   community-‐focused  organisations.      Successful   social   enterprises   are   those  that  obtain  both  social  and  commercial  value   from   their   endeavours.   They  make  use  of  profit  as  a  powerful  tool  in  sustaining  a  mission  or  a  development  programme.   They   may   support   social  and  environmental  causes  and  involve  a  community  to  further  their  cause.    Humanitarian  Affairs  Asia  believes  that  setting  up  a  social  enterprise  is  a  worthy  cause  for   the   youth.   The   world   needs   fresh   ideas   and   perspectives   to   solve   some   of   the  world’s  long  unresolved  development  issues.

 THE  ORGANISATION

Humanitarian   Affairs   Asia   is   a  social   enterprise   that   aims   to  empower   young   people   of   the  world   to   become   global   citizens  who   have   compassion   for   the  World’s  Poor.      The   organisation   has   long   since  invested  in  the  talents  of  the  youth  as  it  works  to  equip  them  with  the  necessary   skills   and   experience  that  would  allow  them  to  carry  out

their  own  humanitarian  efforts  and  sustainable  programmes  for  communities  in  need.    Its   programmes   include   its   international   humanitarian   and   service-‐learning  conferences,   the   University   Scholars   Leadership   Symposium   and   the   Oxford  Symposium.      It  manages  an  internship  placement  programme  for  the  youth  who  wish  to  be  trained  in  managing  events  and  Non-‐Government  Organisations  (NGOs).  All  of  its  programmes  provide  opportunities  for  the  youth  to  further  their  skills  for  whatever  career  path  they  decide  to  take.

THE  PROGRAMME    Every  start-‐up  requires  careful  planning  and  execution.  Beginning  entrepreneurs  need  to  create  strong  foundations  for  their  enterprises  from  the  very  start  of  their  work.      The  Apprentice  programme  aims  to  mentor  youths  who  are  passionate  about  starting  a  social   enterprise.   It   is   a   12-‐month   mentorship   programme   that   provides   intensive  training   on   social   entrepreneurship   to   build   on   the   foundations   of   their   dream  enterprises.      The   programme   consists   of   hands-‐on   training   in   fundraising,   project   management,  event   management   and   effective   marketing.   All   of   which   are   necessary   life   and  technical  skills  in  creating  and  sustaining  a  social  enterprise.      Events   management   is   a   big   part   of   the   programme.   All   participants   must   commit  themselves   to   the   intensive   training   consisting   of   50  work   hours   per  week.  Training  hours  are  from  7:30  am  to  6:00  pm  on  Mondays  to  Friday.  Half-‐day  trainings  and  event  execution  are  held  on  Saturday  from  2:00  pm  to  6:00  pm.    To  be  part  of  the  programme,  applicants  must  go  through  our  selection  process.  Chosen  applicants  are  to  pay  a  programme  fee  of  THB  60,000  for  the  entire  12  months  before  the   commencement   of   the   programme.   Successful   applicants   may   join   the  Humanitarian  Affairs  Asia  team  in  their  Asian  regional  office  in  Thailand  either  in  the  1st  of  January,  April,  or  September.      Upon   successful   completion   of   the   programme,   participants   are   to   receive   a  certification   of   achievement   on   this   specialised   social   entrepreneurship   course.    Humanitarian   Affairs   also   commits   itself   to   guiding   its   youths   even   after   they     are  finished  with  the  programme.  It  will  be  providing  free  consultation  on  the  participants’  social  enterprises  for  one  year.    Programme  Coverage
