Part –A:
The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year
towards Quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year
2007-2008.
Plan of Action 2007-08:
Following are the unfulfilled plan of action of
session 2006-07.
1. To have a better academic environment IQAC proposes to construct a
separate block for library building for every access for the students.
2. IQAC proposes to introduce vocational certificate course on Sericulture,
Tailoring, Knitting and Cutting etc. To have a professional access to all poor
and needy students.
New Plan of Action 2007-08:
IQAC proposes to fulfil the unfulfilled plan of action for the session 2006-07
during the current session.
1. IQAC proposes to introduce remedial courses to be taken up on a permanent
basis with grant from the UGC.
2. Alumni Association proposed to be registered and steps to be taken for
furtherance of the activities of the Association.
3. IQAC proposes to introduce group insurance schemes for the student,
Faculty and other employee.
4. ‘IQAC proposes to initiate steps to introduce science stream in the college for
better facility of the aspiring students.
5. IQAC also proposes to utilise the NSS unit and proposes to apply for funds
from the Govt.
6. IQAC proposes to apply for some new posts from the Govt for the
strengthening of faculty position and to fill up the vacant sanctioned posts.
7. IQAC proposes to encourage the faculty members to participate in
International/National seminar, symposium, workshop etc. for updating
themselves.
8. The IQAC proposes to initiate steps for beautification of the college campus.
9. IQAC proposes for construction of permanent Cycle Stand for the students.
10. IQAC proposes to construct a permanent Car Parking Lot.
11. IQAC proposes to take necessary steps for supply of pure drinking water
for the students.
12. IQAC proposes to organise a National Seminar Sponsored by UGC.
Out Come Achieved by the end of the year:
1. Group Insurance Scheme for Faculty members and college employees has
been introduced.
2. The Convenor of NSS, Goreswar College will have duly applied for funds
which is under consideration of the concerned authority.
3. The college has applied for the new posts and few posts has already been
sanctioned by BTC authority. Few vacant posts are also filled up by the
Govt.
4. Few members of the faculty have participated in International and Natinal
level seminars.
5. Steps have been taken for beautification of the college.
6. Permanent Cycle stand has been constructed for students.
7. Drinking water facilities has been provided for the students of the college.
8. The college has organised a National Seminars on 29th & 30th Sept,2007 on
“Autonomy and Ethnic demography of the NE India – a futuristic projection.”

1. Academic Cell :
The academic cell looks after every academic activities of G.C. The
senior teachers and enlightened citizens, responsible government. Officials
and academicians are the members of this cell. The cell has at least one
sitting every month. They supervise the evaluation and teaching learning
activities of the college. These activities include modification of class routine,
departmental progress, revision of syllabus, and supervision of tutorial and
remedial classes. At least the academic cell regularly publishes the
academic calendar and prospectus of the college every year. The cell also
suggests in various ways for the upliftment of the quality education of
various departments for the benefit of the students. It also seeks advice from
various departments towards improvement of the academic environment of
the college.
2. Extension Education Cell:
Extension Education cell of G.C. has taken various awareness
programmes in the greater Goreswar area. It received fund from Assam
Science Society and Aryabhatta Science Centre to organise environment
awareness programme in the area. A two day programme was organised
with the initiative of convenor professor Jehirul Hussain at Goreswar High
Madrassa School. Dr. Nripendranath Talukdar, Lecturer Pub Kamrup
College was invited as Chief Guest and Dr. Khargeswar Deka, Principal
G.C. was the guest of honour. Sri Jadab Goswami, Lecturer of Goreswar
College presided over the meeting. Dr. Talukdar delivered a fruitful lecture
on environment and its pollution. All the teachers and students of the area
were present in the meeting.
This programme was followed by plantation of medicinal plants in the
college campus. The programme created awareness among the students
about the use of herbal medicines for various treatments.
3. Students Welfare Cell:
A programme on “peace education” was organised by student’s
welfare cell on 15/9/2007 in the college. The speakers highlighted the need
of “Peace Education” among the people in general and students in particular
the present time are a time of social unrest. The Human life are derailed
from their right path due to absence of moral education in schools and
colleges. So, it was anticipated that introduction of peace education in
school curriculum would help to restore peace in the society. The
programme was attended by the propagator of “Prajapita Brahmakumari
Iswariya Viswavidyalaya, Baihata Chariali”.
4. Infrastructure Cell:
The general infrastructural development of the college is looked after
by the Infrastructure cell. The college has obtained UGC grants for
infrastructural facility of the college. The college has obtained UGC grants
for infrastructural developments such as construction of Girls Hostel, college
auditorium Departmental common rooms, computer facility in the
departments, Computer Lab. Etc. Already Girls Hostel and auditorium are
going to be completed.
5. Statistical Cell:
The statistical cell of GC uses to keep all kinds of statistical data
regarding enrolment of students in the academic sessions 2007-08, no of
candidates appearing in degree part I, II & II examinations, strength of male
female students and enrolment of no of candidates in the category of SC,
ST, OBC, Minorities etc. The cell is responsible for proper preparation of
data concerning all matters. This all provides different data when required,
to all the departments and college authority.
6. Career Counselling Cell:
On Career Counselling cell all of GC organised a popular lecture on
career Development and Job Opportunities in various fields. For this
purpose Sri Dineswar Lahkar, Lecturer in Economics, Rangia College and
Sarrifuddin Ahmed, Advocate, Rangia SDYMO court. They spoke about
various job opportunities for BA and BSc pass students, such as avenues in
teaching deptt., Draftmanship, stenography, Tailoring, Architecture
Engineering etc.
7. Women Study Cell:
The women study cell has conducted a survey on different aspects of
women of Goreswar area on 25/9/2007. The survey dealt with the women
literacy rate, economic condition of women, position of health and hygiene of
women. All the female faculty members of the college participated in the
survey programme.
8. Alumni association cell:
The alumni cell is responsible for welfare activities inside the college
campus for students’ communities. The cell collects money from other
agencies and contributed a lot to the construction of cycle stand of the
college.
9. Seminar Cell:
The seminar cell of Goreswar College has held a National Seminar on
29th & 30th September, 2007. The seminar cell of Goreswar College is
endowed with the responsibility of organising interdisciplinary seminars and
popular talks on various topics in collaborations with concerned
departments, students, teachers and resource persons invited from nearby
colleges & as some occasions from GU/NEHU participate in the National
Seminars.
National Seminars Sponsored by UGC:-
The seminar cell and IQAC organised a national seminar sponsored by
UGC on the topic-“Autonomous movements in the North East India- a
futuristic projection” with a two day programme from 19th Sept/2007. The key
note address was delivered by Dr. Shyam Bhadra Medhi, eminent scholar
and administrator and it was inaugurated by Prof. Neeru Hazarika, Prof.
HoD, Political Science G.U. The resource persons were invited from
Guwahati University and North Eastern Hill University; Prof. Apurba Barua,
Prof. Manorama Sarma were invited from NEHU while Prof. K.G.
Bhattacharya, Director, Academic Staff college, GU and Prof Kandarpa
Barman, Prof. In the department of Economics, GU, Research Scholars of
GU & DU teachers, from various colleges of Assam and outside Assam also
participated in the seminar. 40 participants presented papers on different
topics.
The seminar cell proposes to organise more National Seminars and
workshops in future.
Seminars in the departments of Assamese:
A popular talk was organised by the Assamese department on 10th &
11th Sept./2007 on the topic “Romanticism in English Literature & its impact
on Assamese Poetry” “Nationalism in Ambikagiri’s Poetry” and “Environment
Pollution and Contemporary Society”
Seminars in the departments of Bodo:
The Dept. Of Bodo organised a seminar on 27th August/07 on the topic
– “Bodo Literature and impact of Folk Lore on the development of Bodo
Prose”. The seminar was graced by Prof. Anil Boro, Department of Folk Lore
Gauhati University.
Seminars in the departments of English:
The department of English organised popular talks on “Problem of
teaching English in vernacular schools.” Prof. Niren Thakuria of Pragjyotish
College of Guwahati and Prof. Debabrata Bardoloi, HoD, English of Sipajhar
College were invited as resource persons. Prof. S.C. Deka attended the
seminar as the Chairperson.
Seminars in the departments of Education:
The Education department of the college organised a seminar on
“Role of Teachers on the development of higher education”. on 25t
Sept./2007. Dr. Deben Das, HoD, Department of History, Pub Kamrup
College and Dr. Hemchandra Das, HoD, Education of Pub Kamrup College
were the resource persons.
Seminars in the departments of Economics:
“Role of agriculture in development of rural society in the context of
Kamrup District” was the tiltle of the Departmental Seminar, organise by the
Department of Economics. Dr. Kandarpa Barman, Prof. Economics, GU
acted as resource person and developed his suggestions & observations for
the development of agriculture sector.
Seminars in the departments of History:
The History Dept. Organised a seminar on 5th Nov/07 on the topic -
“Sukapha- the first Ahom king and the philosophy state formations”, Dr. Rita
Deka, Prof. I.S. Mumtaza of the Dept. Of History, GU, were the resource
persons. The deliberated their valuable lectures on the topic with specific
observations on state formations.
Seminars in the departments of Political Science:
The Department of political science organised seminar on the 9th
Dec/07, on the topic “Insurgency and rural society.” The seminar was graced
by Ava Devi, HoD, Political Science, Pub Kamrup College and Dr. Nanigopal
Mahanta, Reader GU.
Seminars in the departments of Philosophy:
The philosophy Department organised a seminar on “Role of Peace
Education in the context of present society unrest” on the first Dec/07. Prof.
Mohan Ch. Deka, Vice principal & HoD, Philosophy, Pub Kamrup College
and Prof. Bhuban Sarma were the resource persons. The seminar was
organized by the department in collaboration with students welfare cell.
Progress Report of support services:
1. Asomiya Sahitya Chora, Department of Assamese:
Asomiya Sahitya Chora, which was formed in 2083, is an integral part of
the Deptt. of Assamese. The Sahitya Chora organised certain literary
competitions like Poem Recitation Competition, Quiz Competition,
Cultural Competitions etc. The competitions were conducted by senior
professors of the Assamese Department. The Sahitya Chora held its
annual meeting on 10 & 11 September, 2007. Prize winners were given
prizes at the annual meeting. Prizes were also awarded to students
coming out with flying colours the TDC final examination. It also hold
seminar on “Influence of English Romanticism in Assamese Poetry.”
2. Education Forum:
Under the guidance of Education Deptt., the forum has conducted a
study on “Woman Literacy in Goreswar area”. Students of third year with
education as major subjects also participated in the survey. The
Education Forum came into existence in 2003.
3. Historical Study Centre:
The historical study centre came into existence in 2004. The centre
conducted a study as on “Baidya Gahr” a historically important Gahr on
24th August, 2007. King Arimatta constructed this embankment to
safeguard his kingdom. Students of history department also participated
in the study. The sight has offered enormous scope for the study of
ancient history. Demand has been raised by different quarters to
preserve this historically important dam.
4. Political Forum:
The Political Forum of political science department formed this forum
in 2003. This forum organised a popular talk on “Human Rights Education
– a need of the hour” was held on 3-9-11.
5. Peace and Amity Club, Department of philosophy :
This club was formed in 1999. under the auspices of philosophy
department. A popular talk on “Terrorism is a social Problem” was
organised by the club on 29-8-2007. Prof Debabrata Choudhury, retired
HoD, Philosophy Dept. Goreswar College and Prof Mohan Ch. Deka,
HoD, Philosophy and V.P. of Pub Kamrup College were the resource
persons of the seminar.
6. English Literary Society:
The English Literary Society was formed in 1999. The Society of the
Dept. Of English published third issue of the wall magazine named
“Wheel of Thought” in the meeting of the literary society on 19.9.07. It
also organized a seminar on the same day.
7. Bodo Literary Society :
Bodo Literary society under the president ship of Umesh Baro,
conducted a poem writing competition and recitation competition on the
1st Sept, 2007.
2. New Academic Programmes initiated (UGC & PG): Nil.
3. Innovation in curricular design and Transaction:
Goreswar College follow prescribed syllabus of Gauhati University. Although
the college has no authority to change or design the syllabus the department
of the college has propagated some outside class room activities in many
Departments. The innovative ideas includes organisation of symposium on
few relevant topics of the subjects and their utility to the society social
responsibility and the obligation of the teachers and students to the society is
being reflected through these innovation programme curriculum. In this year
the college has not modified any designed on this matter and it is remained
as it is with the last session. Curriculum on talent search exam for class IX –
XI was designed by a committee headed by Jahirul Hussain, Lecturer, and
Philosophy.
4. Inter-Disciplinary Programmes Started:
All the departments of Goreswar College are actively associated with their
own subject and syllabus. The Faculty Members and Teaching Departments
have propagated some interdisciplinary programmes for the benefit of the
students and for the up gradation and quality enhancement. During these
programmes the Departments recognises some core and similar issues
which match the topics of the departments. For instance, the Education
Departments and the History Departments exchanges their faculty members
to give variety to the students and teachers. Economics and mathematics
Departments also exchange their faculty members to teach similar topic. In
such a way the college authority has offered the variety through
interdisciplinary programmes.
5. Examination reforms implemented:
The last years policy on examination reforms is kept unchanged there is no
any new implementation in this regard. It is done by the affiliating university,
i.e. Gauhati University.
6. Candidates qualified NET/SLET/GATE etc.
In this session 2 (two) lecturers, namely Nibedita Thakuria and Jehirul
Hussain of Political Science and Philosophy respectively cleared NET.

17. Community Services:
Goreswar College uses to perform Community Services through the
extension Education cell and the Students Welfare Cell, Various plans have
been executed which can be contribute a lot the process of up liftment of the
community. An AIDS Awareness Programme was organized by the college
faculty staff.
The above mentioned two cells have conducted various
workshops, seminars, survey which can help developing community
services. The details of the Concern Programmes have been discussed
under the heading of Extension Education Cell, and Students Welfare Cell.

20. Improvements in library services:
In this session, the college has given emphasis on improvement in the
Central Library facility. Goreswar College uplift the facility of College Library
in various ways. In this session the library has been enriched by 1382 Books
and reference books in various subjects. Moreover the college has enlisted
many new journals and popular national details like – Indian express the
Hindi, times of India and Telegraph. Apart from this the students are offered
easy access to the borrowing system in ready manner.

The Central Library has its stock books & journals in this session. It has

22. Course in which the academic season the college prepared an
assessment of Teachers known as student feedbacks.
At the end of the academic season the college prepared an assessment of teachers
known as student feedback. In TDC part I, TDC Part II & TDC Part III the feedback on the
teachers is taken regularly from students. The teachers are assessed under the following
10 point scale rating. After scrutinizing the various attitudes of teachers are rated by the
student the average rating is taken into account. The teachers are given intimation
regarding his/her rating and necessary advice & guidance are also given to improve
his/her level of knowledge and his/her strength and weakness. The principal and the IQAC
of the college has an annual sitting with the teacher’s to evaluate the serious matters
arises out of the feedback report.

issues of Certificate:
i. Computerization of Administration:
The administration of Goreswar College is not wholly computerized.
The process is going on. Filling of the account, proceedings of the meeting
students’ teachers’ interaction, staff meeting etc. are going under processed.
With the help of documentation the college is trying to conduct the
administration smoothly.
ii. Process of administration:
For the process of admission forms are distributed among the students
with a distinct cut of marks. The cut of marks vary from time to time. The
college has a admission committee which scrutinized the forms. After that a
selection list is hanged up strictly in merit basis. After that with requisite fees
the process of admission is completed.
iii. Examination Results: (2007-08)
The final examination results of the college are shown below:

iv. Issue of Certificate:
After the passing the final examination the office issue the pass
certificates after the students fulfilled the requisite conditions. Issue of
certificates is taken place after the office assistant verifies the requisite
norms. At last the principal of the college issue pass certificates to the
concerning students. The university authority issue pass certificates on the
basis of principal’s recommendation.
25. Increase in the infrastructural facility:
In this session the college has developed the auditorium to a great
extent. On the other hand construction of the Girls Hostel is also going on
full spirit. The auditorium is partly funded by UGC. A few classrooms is also
constructed and renovated during the session which has boosted up the
infrastructure capacity of the college. A new library building is going to be
constructed. The ground floor is already completed, but temporarily it is
made a classroom.
26. Technology Up gradation:
In the field of technology up gradation the college is not able to do a
remarkable development because in the communication technology the area
is not so much developed Being situated in the foothill of Bhutan, the remote
area is deprived of latest communication technology such as Internet
Communication. Within a limited scope the Teaching Departments are
taking the help of audio visual aid for better quality upgradation. In such a
way the teaching learning process is completed with the available
technology. Audio visual methods are used to improve quality of teaching
and learning.
27. Computer access and training to Teacher and the students:
The college has an active computer education cell and it is responsible
in providing computer education of the faculty members and students. As
well as the students and faculty members are also take part in the training
course and acquainted with the computer education. But in the field of
Internet connectivity there is no provision of internet access as the locality is
remain outside the purview of internet networks. Now internet connection is
available in the college.
28. Financial aid of students:
As per the plan of IQAC, Goreswar College is providing financial aid to
the poor and meritorious student. It offers free admission to 4 students in the
session 2007-08. Apart from this they are also provided with the free
textbook and other study material. Every year the college provides these
kinds of financial aid to the poor and meritorious students of the college.
Fund form UGC is available to help the poor and meritorious students of ST,
SC and OBC and minority communities.
29. Activities and support from the Alumni Association:
The activities and support provided by the Alumni Association to the
college is incorporated with the progress report of Alumni Association Cell.
Proper support is obtained from Alumni Association to improve the college.
30. Activities and support from the Parent Teacher Association:
As with last year plan and programme in this session also the
Parent – Teacher Association uses to sit twice in the year on 9th January and
29th August and discuss many issues which are related with the Quality
Education of the Institution. The dates are fixed. The association responded
positively to the plan and action of the institution and put forwarded their
views and suggestions. The IQAC take this note and adopted some
measures to give quality based education to the students.
31. Health Services:
On 25.09.07 the college initiated a Health Service Programme cum
Awareness and free eye check up camp under the supervision of Dr. A.
Islam, noted eye specialist. In this programme the local people and NGOs
were invited to the programme. The expert put forwarded his views and
suggestions about this diseases and remedies for the diseases. Apart from
this progamme the Students Welfare Camp also initiated such programme.
32. Performance in Sports activities:
In this session many State level players from this college participated
in many National sports competition. In the field of Archery, Hand Ball,
Kabadi, etc. the students brought laurel to the institution. Few students
name is corporate in the segments of students’ achievements and awards.

33. Incentives to outstanding sports persons:
Goreswar College has a high reputation in the field of Sports activities.
The college has proud privilege of getting very state level players of various
discipline like- Kabadi, Basket Ball, Net Ball, Kick Boxing and Volley Ball.
The state players are given financial assistance to represent the college in
various competitions. A a mark of incentives these players are provided
material and equipments related for their respective field. The players are
also offered free text book consulting facilities and other study materials.

to the college by winning many prizes and awards in various national
competition in various disciplines
35. Activities of the career guidance and counseling unit:
The detail activities of guidance and counseling unit is discussed with
the progress report of Career Counseling Cell, Goreswar College.
36. Placement Services provided to the students:
Goreswar College has provided placement to the student of the college.
Under the guidance of Career Counseling Cell of Goreswar College, the
different advertisement that are published in the newspapers seeking
appointment from the candidates for fulfillment of the various jobs in different
reputed companies of India are use to collect and the eligible candidate of
the college is to inform about these job opportunities. Many students passing
from this college are able to secure jobs in security force, Police and
Paramilitary Forces. They are all NCC cadets.
37. Developing programme for non-teaching staff:
A two days programmes on office management was carried out on
16th and 17th sept’07 to train the non-teaching staff. This training programme
was given by management expert Dr. D. Choudhury and he gave some
valuable tips to the non-teaching staff. The UGC academic staff college GU
organized such programme from time to time and our office staff
representatives participated in such programme.
38. Healthy Practices of the Institution:
Goreswar College regularly organizes healthy practices under the
auspices of student welfare cell and extension education cell. It includes
seminar workshop, society based survey programme etc. A few programme
etc. A few programs of this kind has been incorporated below.
i. Popular talk on relevance of Vivekananda :
Department of History, on 07. 01. 08 arranged a popular talk on the
said topic in which student and members of NGOs of greater Goreswar area
participated in sporting manner. The faculty member of History department
Mr. K. R. Bora, C.P. Tamuli and N. Kalita participated as resource person
and Mr. S.C. Deka from department of English acted as appointed speaker.
In this talk main emphasis were given on the philosophy of Swami
Bibekananda and his contributions in Nation Building.
ii. Talk on Radhakrishnan:
The Department of Education observed the Teacher’s Day on 5th
September with the collaboration of the Students Union of Goreswar
College. In this observation, A. Das, Head of the Department of Education
highlighted the contribution of Radhakrishnan to the teaching community
and the society as whole.
iii. Talk on Value education:
The department of philosophy arranged a talk on value education on
15-07-07 in the Department. The aim of the talk was to give some lesson of
value education to the student community. Mrs. G Kalita, Head of the
department and J. Hussain, Lecturer of the department dealt with some core
issues regarding value in the present society. Mr. A. Talukdar, Asstt.
Professor Assamese Department acted as appointed speaker and spoke on
vital issues of the society and the youths.
iv. Awareness Talk on Woman Empowerment:
On 25-10-07, the department of political science arranged popular talk
on Woman Empowerment. The local woman bodies were invited to the
camp in which Mrs. B. Sarma and Miss N. Thakuria spoke on the burning
issues of present day woman including the educational status. They tries to
motivate the local women in spreading the woman literacy in the area and
educate them about the need to empower woman.
Apart from these programmes the various departments initiated
programmes on Group discussions, Debating and Symposium etc. in the
college time to time.
39. Linkage developed with National/International Academic
Research bodies:
There are interested faculty members of Goreswar College who certainly
wants to have their links with National and International Research Bodies. They
are members of various educational and Research bodies such as Mrs. Alaka
Das, HoD, Education Department is a member of National Council of Teachers
Education (NCTE), All India Association for Educational Research (ALAER) etc.
Nayan Kalita, a senior Lecturer of Deptt. of History is a member of Indian History
Congress, member of North East India History Association and Axom Buranji
Sabha etc. Apart from this Lecturers like Ajit Talukdar, Ramen Medhi, Umesh
Boro, Bandana Sarma and Nibedita Thakuria has association with many national
research and academic bodies. Jadab Ch. Goswami is a life member of Assam
Academy of Mathematics, GU and Assam Secrvice Society, Dr. S.C. Deka is a
member of Indian literary Society etc.

achievements of the department? The Goreswar College is one of the notable higher institution in such an interior place of Northern Kamrup. Since the time of establishment it was found that there are only a few in numbers there who highly interested for the establishment of such higher educational institution for future upliftment of next generations. But number of interested people gradually increased. And at last the higher educational environment thus spread all over the areas. Among all other departments of the college, the history department is also trying over leave best to initiate to increase the interest towards the higher education to make study on the basis of higher level in future, keeping hope of smooth running of the college organised workshop, seminars educational excursion, survey of important historical places of neighbouring historically important areas. And thus we are also taking interest to motivate the people of among the large number of illiterate people of local areas. Only the history points out the reality of all things. So, the department initiates to find out the remains to increase the interest on history among all the students communities of the vast, undividable areas.

Part – C Details of the plans of the institution for the next year:
Plan of Action 2008-2009.
The following are the unrealized action plan of the session 2007-2008 which are going to be fulfilled in the session 2008-2009.
1. The play ground to be completed by Govt. grants if it is available. 2. Need based vocational courses like BBA, BCA, Tourism; Sericulture etc are going to be
opened in next academic session with govt. grants. Students of this locality come from very poor families, so self financing courses are difficult to be opened.
New action plan for 2008-09 1. IQAC proposes to the college authority to allot new departmental rooms with computer in each dept. 2. IQAC shall try to maintain good relation between teachers and students of the college. 3. The IQAC proposes to strengthen the career counseling through different programmes of career counseling. 4. IQAC proposes to run remedial coaching programmes with the help of UGC fund. 5. IQAC proposes to organize at least one national level seminar once in a year. 6. Study centres of KKHSOU authority to open a study centre at the college. The college will open HS and Degree courses under the programme. 7. Study Centre of IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning) is proposed to be opened in the college. The IQAC proposes to apply to the GU authority to open a study centre of GU at Goreswar College.
