Product Information

Peter Reed has been manufacturing fine cotton sheeting fabrics in Lancashire since 1861 and retains local labor skills and traditions offering a combination of experience and quality, which are renowned throughout the world.

Manufactured in England using luxurious Egyptian cotton, the distinctive Peter Reed bed linen collection is rich to feel, design and color giving rise to a classic and sophisticated range. Our percale and sateen bed linens are made entirely from specially selected, highest quality combed yarns. Prior to spinning, the shorter cotton fibers are removed which ensures that the yarns are spun from only the longest fibers present in the cotton harvest.

HIGH WOVEN THREAD COUNT

The thread count of a cloth is the number of intersections of yarns (warp and weft) in a given area (expressed in terms of one square inch or centimeter). Percale and Sateen are made from the same base cotton, only differing in how it is woven across the warp and weft. Percale has a naturally crisp and matt finish to the handle. Sateen has a much silkier and softer handle. Fine thread counts are quoted after natural washing shrinkage has occurred. Thread counts relating to cloths which contain multi-ply yarns can be misleading, as they do not reflect a pure measure of intersections in the weave. Peter Reed sheeting constructions have been produced over many years and established as industry and hotel standard qualities.

CHLORITE BLEACHING

All Peter Reed sheets are chlorite bleached in traditional kiers using soft water. This slow process produces a full white bleach, which will not yellow with age as can happen with textiles that are peroxide bleached.

WOVEN SELVEDGES

Bleached Peter Reed sheets are finished with a dedicated woven selvedge, where possible, rather than being sewn around all four hems. A woven selvedge is formed when the fabric is in the loom and provides a strong and clean edge to the cloth, which will outlast a sewn hem in laundering and prevent fraying.

SIZING AND ALLOWANCES FOR SHRINKAGE

Flat sheets are made with a high allowance for shrinkage which ensures adequate tuck-in is available for extra deep mattresses. King size sheets are finished at 305cm (120 ), and Superking at a luxurious 320cm (126 ). Fitted sheets and duvet covers are all made with an allowance of 5-8% shrinkage, which will occur during the first few washing cycles of the product. In line with industry standard practices, flat sheets and pillowcases are labelled with actual sewn sizes, whereas fitted sheets, valances and duvet covers are labelled with residual sizes after expected shrinkage. Peter Reed fitted sheets are made with generous gusset which will accommodate mattresses up to 46cm (18 ) deep; deeper gussets are available by special order.

GENEROUS HEMS

Hems are sewn with at least 12 stitches per inch to ensure durability throughout the laundering life of the article. Our 3cm (1¼ ) wide bottom hem and 7.5cm (3 ) wide top hem provide a rich finish to our

sheets, and help them to be ironed more easily by hand or a calendering machine.

CORD STITCHING

Signature Cords are all finished with classic cord stitching which is sewn with 28 stitches per inch. In the days when all linens were bleached white, differing number rows of cord stitching were applied to help identify the various grades of sheets, and who they were destined for. Peter Reed continues this tradition with extra rows of cording for higher thread count cloths.

OVERLOCKING WITH SAFETY STITCH

Duvet covers and standard pillowcases are finished with a double overlock and safety stitch for long durability in laundering and bed making.

TRADITIONAL MITRED PILLOWCASES

Oxford style pillowcases within our Signature Cords range and some of our other ranges are made with a decorative flange [sham]. This is sewn around the case with traditional mitred corners throughout. Their construction requires time intensive assembly of three separate pieces of fabric and skillful sewing. The end result is a flange that supports itself at the corners when placed on the bed, unlike the simpler mock Oxford construction which can give a rabbit ear effect.

LABELLING & LAUNDERING CARE

Our linens are labelled with US standard washing instructions, and include a generic size sewing-in label for easy identification and housekeeping. Cotton should be washed at as a high a temperature as possible for best results with a low concentrate detergent. Ironing is recommended whilst the fabric is damp, and on the reverse side of embroidered areas for best effect. Drying should ideally be done by line drying in good weather conditions. Tumble drying can also be used provided a medium heat cycle is used.

COORDINATING RANGE OF BED LINEN ITEMS

We produce a wide range of coordinating items for the bed, including valances, bolster cases, blanket covers and cot linens. Items can be made to order in any special size required.

The embroideries that follow are part of the Peter Reed Embroideries Collections. These designs have been produced by our in-house design team, some of which have gone on to be iconic designs that embody everything that Peter Reed is famous for.

Using the latest machinery and the highest quality threads for our embroideries, each piece of work is hand finished and inspected to ensure perfection going out to your customers.

The designs shown can be ordered in any of our standard 72 colors shown on the next page, in either a satin or matt finish. Once you have chosen your design, you will need to choose the type of cloth it is embroidered onto. It is here where the price is determined. The price lists are shown after the designs are based on the quality of cloth.

Bespoke Work

Our flexibility and local manufacturing allows us to produce highly customized and bespoke work for discerning clients. With our bespoke service, we can match embroidery and cording thread colors to your wallpaper, carpet or furnishing fabric swatches. We can also create or design embroidered monograms to suit individual decors. All designs and color ways can then be presented to you in a digital format for you to pass on to your respective client for approval.

We have an extensive library of thread colors available to match or compliment any interior or logo color scheme. Our threads are manufactured by some of the respected names in embroidery, and we use only the finest Italian woven fabrics to produce a luxurious product with no equal. Please look below for our standardized thread colors available.
