Hello to all ASPE Members and friends, 2019 ASPE Tech Symposium Do not miss the 2019 ASPE Tech Symposium in Pittsburgh on October 24-27. All full registra-tions include the technical education ses-sions of your choice, CEUs/PDHs, the Product Show and welcome party, committee meetings, and breakfast and lunch events. If you can’t make it for the whole weekend, one-day options are also available to attend education sessions and earn CEUs. You can find everything you need to know to plan your trip at aspe.org/2019tech. Caution – there have been scam promotions about Hotel Rooms. Only register your room through the ASPE website. There is a product show on Thursday 4-8 PM (though not nearly as big as at the conventions). Then Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning there are eight hour and a half time slots for your choice of 40 different topics. We can car pool from here to Pittsburgh – No need to wait at Airport Security. CPD Review We are starting to plan the next round of Review sessions for the next CPD Test (Certified Plumbing Designer). Please reply to me with some of your thoughts; 1. Just one 8 hour session, two or three 4 hour sessions, vs. four or five 2 hour sessions? Morning, Afternoon, or Evening preference (if not the 8 hour session)?

We are starting the new ASPE year off great with a fantastic speaker. Jim Richardson with the City of Columbus Building and Zoning Ser-vices will be speaking. Jim has 28 years of ex-perience in the plumbing/construction industry. His experience includes working as a contrac-tor, being a plumbing inspector and a plans ex-aminer. He has certifications from the state of Ohio as both a Plumbing Inspector and a Plumbing Plans Examiner. Jim will talk about indirect drainage and upcoming code changes. Jim last spoke at an ASPE meeting a year and a half ago and it was one of my favorites. Jim’s presentations are interactive so please come prepared with any questions you may have about the Ohio Plumbing Code. He is an excel-lent resource. As a reminder, below are the other speakers and topics that we have to look forward to this year. October: Craig Boyce with Kemper Water Con-trol Systems. Craig’s talk will cover Legionella Control thru water flow and temperature using Venturi valves. *Tuesday October 8
th will be the Joint ASPE,
ASHRAE & MCACO dinner meeting. November: Chuck Blythe with Environmental Comfort. Chuck will cover Domestic Water Heating thru a Variable Refrigerant Flow sys-tem. December: David Chrien with SSECO Solu-tions. Dave will give an overview of Fuel Oil System design. January: Ryan Pfund with Bradley Corp. Ryan’s presentation will be the Basics of Safety Showers and Eyewashes. February: James Montgomery with Elkay. James’s talk is Accessibility for All (ADA Guide-lines for Plumbing Fixtures).
March and April: TBD May: Jim Richardson from the City of Columbus will come back to cover topics of our choice (through a future survey). As always, if there is a topic that you would like to see covered, please let me know.

Ad-ditionally, the Ohio Attorney General has issued Opinion 2019-027 in response to the Board’s request for guidance on the meaning of “financing has been secured” in R.C. 3781.1010. USGBC opens call for proposals for the next version of LEED On July 9, 2019, the U.S. Green Building Coun-cil (USGBC) announced a call for proposals to solicit feedback and concepts for the next version of LEED. USGBC created the LEED green building program 20 years ago to measure and define green building and to provide a roadmap for developing sustainable buildings. LEED is updated through a continu-ous improvement process and with each new version USGBC is evolving LEED’s approach and challenging the building sector to be more resource efficient and sustainable.
The USGBC community can participate in the call for LEED proposals session. Industry leaders can also join USGBC at the annu-al Greenbuild International Conference and Ex-po, taking place in Atlanta, Nov. 19-22, 2019, for the “Future of LEED” education session, which will review market feedback and provide up-dates on performance-based outcomes, trans-parency and continuous improvement to future versions of LEED.
