Men’s Breakfast
All the men of the congregation are invited to a breakfast next Saturday morning,
Feb. 15. These are always great times for fellowship and we enjoy eating a meal
together. We also have some time for discussing the church and how we can make it
even better here at Roebuck Parkway.
Belize 2014
In just a few weeks we’ll be embarking on our next campaign to Belize. This year
we’ll be working in Belmopan, the capital city of Belize. I’ve heard reports of past
campaigns to this city and how the people there are usually very receptive and how the
church members are very helpful and involved in the campaign. Pray for this upcoming
evangelistic opportunity and for the souls that need to open their hearts to the Gospel
of Jesus Christ.
Prayer Request
This past Wednesday night our brother Richard Sinard asked us to pray for him
to be closer to the Lord. Richard is a relatively new Christian and has a strong desire
to please the Lord and be involved in the kingdom. Encourage him when you have
the opportunity.
Important Dates to Remember
Please mark some important dates on your calendar. Sunday, April 6 will be
“Bring a Friend Day” this year. Also mark Sunday, May 4 as the date for “Mission
Sunday.” Our VBS will be June 1-4. The youth campaign will be June 13-20. Our
week at Maywood is July 6-11. And our annual Gospel meeting is July 27-30.

Avoiding Apostasy – Part Two
Joshua had given Israel some good advice about avoiding apostasy that is also sound advice for us to-day. We noticed last week the safeguard of obedience and this week we want to look at the safeguard of separation. Joshua told Israel, “and lest you go among these nations, these who remain among you. You shall not make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause anyone to swear by them; you shall not serve them nor bow down to them” (Joshua 23:7). It was essential for Israel that there should be no fel-lowship with these nations. It was not because of snob-bery, that Israel was too good to associate with anyone but themselves but it was because of influence. God was aware that these evil nations would have evil influ-ences on His people! The troubles experienced by Is-rael in the book of Judges can be traced to their failure to obey God in these matters. They were not to even mention their idols, and certainly they were not to call upon them or to bow down to them. There is the danger in the progression of sin, of the slippery slope that leads deeper and deeper into sin. I the first chapter of the book of Psalms, David said, “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scorn-ful” (Psa. 1:1). The progression is seen in one walking in the counsel of the ungodly, then standing in the path of sinners and ends with one sitting in the seat of the scornful. So it is with the dealing with idols. It begins seemingly innocent enough with the mere mention of them. But familiarity with the idols leads to the next step of asking help from the idol and that would even-tually lead to their bowing down and worshiping those idols. As the chosen people of God, Israel had to keep themselves pure! We have no less responsibility today! The apos-tle Paul told the church at Corinth, “Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will re-ceive you” (2 Cor. 6:17). Again this is not because of snobbery. We must not have that “holier than thou” attitude. As the apostle Paul said, “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” We need to keep ourselves separate because of the influence that evil people can have upon us. Again Paul also warned us saying, “Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good hab-its” (I Cor. 15:33). You cannot keep yourself pure by associating with those who are impure, who are dead spiritually. Brother Eddie Cloer was fond of saying, “You can’t plow corn with a dead mule.” In that sense neither can you maintain a faithful life to God by fellow-shipping with those who are spiritually dead.
