CLERGY & STAFF: The Rt. Rev. Scott
Mayer, Bishop
The Rev. Celia Ellery, Rector
Mrs. Candi Wolfe,
Parish Secretary
Dr. Charlene Bustos, Organist &
Choirmaster
Mrs. Marisa Dannheim, Pianist
February 2016
Dear Saints of God, What a busy couple of months we have had! Not only did we cele-brate the Lord’s birth with lots of activities, but we also had our An-nual Meeting on Jan. 24 and Bishop Mayer visited Good Shep-herd on Jan. 31, when he con-firmed two new members, Steve & Pauline Norman. We are happy to have them in our congregation and hope everyone will continue to make them feel at home. Judy Sanborn has also become a member of Good Shepherd through transfer from another church, so I hope you’ll introduce yourself to her and get to know her, too. When we welcome others, we are really practicing what we say in our Baptismal Covenant, taking
the first step to “respect the dignity of every human being.” As our friends in faith the Trustees of Christ Lutheran ELCA have shown us when they welcomed us into their church home almost 10 years ago, welcoming others is a radical act of love that always has far-reaching consequences. They have continued to provide for the future of Good Shepherd as they donated $60,000 from the sale of their property on Sherwood Way to Good Shepherd. We continue to be blessed by their amazing gifts of love. May your 2016 be a year of hope and joy, as you continue the good work begun in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. In Christ,
Celia+
From the Rector
Our sincere thanks to the Trustees of Christ Lutheran ELCA who presented Good Shepherd
with a check for $60,000, which will be used for a
legacy fund for the future of Good Shepherd.
Shown at left is Christ Lutheran
Trustee (now member of Good Shep-herd) Paul Wooten, presenting Rev. Celia the check on Dec. 13, 2015.

Soon you will see more construction being done at Good Shep-
herd. We are happy to say we have enough funds to start the
Good Shepherd Courtyard, and as soon as it warms up, the park-
ing lot should start being completely repaved. Likewise, our
painted sheep will be placed in the church yard facing Abe St.
soon. Our last project to get completed before long is to blow in-
sulation in the church attic. This will help with the heating and
cooling utility bills. We thank all of you who have helped get
these projects started and on the way to being finished. UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The Penitential Season of Lent Begins with
Holy Eucharist with
Imposition of Ashes,
Feb. 10, 7:00 p.m.
Ash Wednesday ushers us into the most solemn season of
the Christian calendar. Our services convey this tone as a
way of inviting us into a time of reflection about what areas
in our lives need attention and discovering ways
that we might address them.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE
Join us for dinner on
Tues., Feb. 9 at 6 p.m., as your Vestry serves up
pancakes and sausage
with all the trimmings!
*******
The tradition of Shrove Tuesday dates back to the Middle
Ages, when all the meat, butter, eggs and sugar would be
used up before Lent, as those things were often given up
during that time of fasting and prayer. Shrove Tuesday
is also called Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday). Wear your
Mardi Gras beads to dinner, if you have them. If not,
we’ll have some here for you!
ELECTION RESULTS FROM ANNUAL MEETING
At our Jan. 24 Annual Meeting, we elected two new vestry members: Charlene Bustos and Prissy Griffis. They will join ongoing members Brad Dannheim, Kay Holland, Susan Lewis,
Jill Ryan, and Candi Wolfe.
In addition, Dave Kerry was re-elected Diocesan Delegate and Candi Wolfe, Alternate.
We want to thank Linda Doss and Don Griffis for their service on the Vestry, as they rotate off. Your time and talents have been a gift to the church!

The Rev. Celia Ellery
Charlene Bustos

Thanksgivings: We are thankful for your prayers for the Scherz family in their recent car accident. Bill &
Donna, and her brother, Ron Hubert, are all recovering well. We are also thankful for your prayers for Sherry
Norman, Rev. Celia’s sister-in-law, who suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. Her progress is slow, but the drs. are
pleased with her progress. Lastly, we are grateful for prayers for Anita Dannheim, who has been on the prayer list
for some time. She has been declared cancer-free by her doctors, and we give thanks to God for that good news!

To our church family,
Donna and I appreciate everything you have done
for our family after our auto accident. It is wonder-
ful to have a church family that prayed for us and
helped us in so many ways. The
many meals were of great help.
May God bless everyone of you.
—Sincerely, Donna & William
