Sussex HIS was established in July 2004, by all the NHS organisations across Sussex, in order to provide effective IM&T services to all these organisations and to meet the challenges of the National Programme for IT (NPfIT).
...dedicated to the support and improvement of
patient care in Sussex. We are committed to developing the abilities of all

us… One of last year’s cadets, who now works
for us,was entered into a national Advanced Hardware & Software Competition where he won a gold medal. He says…
“Just thought you might be interested. Back in the Summer BHASVIC entered me for an ‘Advanced Hardware & Software Competition” which was a national event with competitors from all over the country.
I won a Gold Medal in this competition and came first in the country and yesterday I attended a high-profile awards ceremony and took a few pictures
I think it was because of my apprenticeship here with the NHS that I gained the knowledge necessary to win this”

The Sussex HIS is seen as an employer of choice and one who supports
learning and development. This will also link into the new NHS careers framework for IM&T and… It ensures that the workforce are properly skilled and qualified for
their roles It encourages an interest in progressive IT methods among staffThe fact that the employer is investing money in the employee and
the employee is investing time & effort in their profession strengthens the employer-employee bond
The programme is part-funded by the government so it presents excellent value for money
It gives staff an opportunity to pro-actively pursue their career goals, thus ensuring that they are fulfilled and motivated
The NVQ also links into the KSF
(Knowledge & Skills Framework) and promotes the Sussex HIS as a
Progressive Learning Organisation
The pilot lasts 18 months……evaluation then takes place and the
course can be embedded into the mainstream
“The Sussex HIS has been amazingly supportive giving me time to meet with my assessor in work, facilitating and giving me every opportunity to complete each unit, and whenever I have had a question or issue there are always many people I can turn to for help and advice. I think that the training and education opportunities made available to anyone who works for the Sussex HIS, not only this NVQ but the other courses offered are a credit to the company and a big part of why I joined the team in the first place.”
