Lectors, Servers, and Eucharis"c Ministers: If you were a Mass server in the past, please feel free to come forward and volunteer at Mass. If you wish to become a Mass server, please let me know and I will get you set up for training with Father Ron. If you were a Eucharis!c Minister in the past, you should have received an email asking if you desire to con!nue in this ministry or not and at what Mass you wish to serve. Please respond to this email as quickly as possible so I can get a schedule put together. We really would like to have a schedule ready for July, if possible. We have had a few people come forward and be willing to be a lector, however, we can always use more.

Do young children really need to go to Confession? How much sin can they really have?

Ask any mom about her children and see how many would say she has a brood of perfect angels! Parents know that kids do things that are wrong … and they o%en know they’re doing it! Even toddlers have a sense of right and wrong. The Church recognizes that their minds and consciences are not yet fully developed, however, and typically waits un!l age seven to offer the sacrament of Confession. Around that age and beyond, most young people, when asked, can easily explain why something is wrong. Confession for children is an excellent way to help them reflect on their ac!ons and accept responsibility for their behavior. It helps them to grow in their understanding of sin and how it affects others. This helps them to form their consciences and make be(er choices in the future. Most importantly, they learn the value of forgiveness, both given and received. Rather than singling out what’s wrong, Confession offers hope and a new start! Children can grow in understanding God’s uncondi!onal love and develop a sense of inner dignity that transcends their failings. Not bad for five minutes and an “Our Father” or two! ©LPi

Parish Council: The Parish Council will meet on Monday, July 19th at 7:30 PM. Finance Council: The Finance Council will meet on Monday, July 19th at 7:00 PM.

Also, we are asking all of our adult members to join more fully in our Mass by helping us as an usher, lector, Eucharis!c minister, or even a server. The past weekend Fr. Bill Vos gave us some insight on his work with the Maryknoll Missions. The Maryknoll’s are known for the wonderful work they do mostly in La!n America, Asia and Africa helping with health care, educa!on, pastoral work and grass roots development. We thank those who were able to donate to the collec!on for his ministry and for your con!nued prayers. If you were not able to contribute in our 2nd collec!on this weekend, please consider leaving a dona!on in the next couple of weeks collec!ons. Just put in an envelope and mark it for Fr. Vos. Thank you!

Parish Council: In 2015, the St. Cloud Diocese began a planning process to be(er serve parishes and formed 29 Area Catholic Communi!es. In 2019, St. Mary’s became a part of a five parish ACC and each parish had two representa!ves to the ACC Pastoral Council. By July 2021, the diocese asked for individual parish councils to dissolve and for the ACC to have one Pastoral Council with representa!ves from each parish. At the June 22nd Parish Council Mee!ng, it was approved to dissolve St. Mary’s Parish Council and approved a St. Mary’s Advisory Commi(ee. This commi(ee will consist of the trustees (Tom Sellnow & Bob Clasemann) St. Mary’s ACC representa!ves (Doug Schmidt & Pa/ Weibe) and Fr. Omar. Under the Advisory Commi(ee there will be the sub commi(ees of: Finance, Maintenance, Liturgy/Decora!ng, Stewardship, Parish Life, and Religious Educa!ons (St. Mary’s School and Faith Forma!on). These sub commi(ees will report to the Parish Life Advisory Board beginning in September.

Thank you all the past parish council representa!ves and the current members Al Lemke, Kim Buntjer, Marcy Weber, Ma( Zinter, Mariann Host, Pat Steuck, Pa/ Weibye, and Doug Schmidt for giving of their !me and talent to St. Mary’s.

Stewardship as a Way of Life: “As the Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking say to me, ‘Son of man, I am sending you…’” — Ezekiel 2:2-3 God has a plan for each of us. He calls us to do something for him. But he doesn’t leave us on our own to figure it out. He gives us the resources we need to do his work. Are you listening for God’s call? When you hear it, do you get on your feet and do the work he asks of you? Do not be afraid. God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called. Answer his call.

Five Star Area Catholic Community News

In May of 2019 a joint Pastoral Council was formed for the Five Star Area Catholic Community (ACC) Churches. This Council consisted of the ACC pastors, Deacon Schulzetenberg and two lay representa!ves from each of the parishes. The Diocese of Saint Cloud ACC Planning Commi(ee asked each of the 29 ACC’s within the diocese to establish goals and an ac!on plan to fulfill them. These were the goals and objec!ves established: Liturgy Goal 1: To establish a Five Star Catholic Community Liturgy Commi(ee to coordinate the planning and scheduling of liturgical celebra!ons for seasonal and special celebra!ons for our Five Star Catholic Community. The objec"ve for this goal has been met by forming a Five Star Area Catholic Community Liturgy Commi(ee with two representa!ves from each parish and they will meet in January and August of each year. Worship Goal 1: An!cipa!ng three priests to serve the 5 parishes of the Five Star Catholic Community, every parish will have at least one scheduled Sunday Mass and one Holy Day of Obliga!on Mass (either on the feast day or its vigil). Every parish shall also have at least one scheduled weekday Mass. The objec"ve was met along with crea!ng a Mass schedule if our ACC would be assigned two priests instead of three. The Sunday Mass schedule that is in our goal will be effec!ve the 2nd weekend in September with the change being St. Joseph, Grey Eagle Masses will be Saturday at 4:30 PM and Sunday at 10:30 PM, and St. John the Bap!st Swanville Mass will be at 8:30 AM on Sunday. Worship Goal 2: To promote adora!on of the Blessed Sacrament throughout our Five Star Area Catholic Community by strengthening support of the Perpetual Adora!on Chapel located at Saint Mary’s of Mount Carmel, Long Prairie through increased par!cipa!on. The objec"ve was met with the assistance of our pastors who have promoted it in their parishes, each in their own way.

Worship Goal 3: Create and implement a program that teaches the community the meaning, sacredness and significance of the Mass. This will primarily be done using the video series, Engaging the Mystery: Catechesis on the Mass. The objec"ve has only been par!ally met within the Faith Forma!on sessions, as our efforts were stunted by COVID-19 guidelines and restric!ons.

Communica"on Goal 1: To establish a common bulle!n for the Five Star Catholic Community. This objec"ve has been met as of July, 2020.

Communica"on Goal 2: To establish a common portal website for the parishes and schools. This objec"ve was met when a Five Star Area Catholic Community parish website was created in the Spring of 2020. Some parishes are con!nuing the use of their individual websites in addi!on to the ACC website.

Communica"on Goal 3: To introduce and implement the Evangelus My Parish App among the parishes. This objec"ve has only been par!ally fulfilled. Two of the parish are using this app and it will be introduced to the other parishes soon.

Communica"on Goal 4: Establish a common calendar to be used among the parish staff to coordinate events across the ACC. This objec"ve has been met with all five parish secretaries having access to the calendar.

Hospitality Goal 1: The Five Star Catholic Community will provide an ini!al one-day event, a progressive dinner in the Summer of 2020, hosted across the parishes. This objec"ve has been updated to a one-day retreat, in February 2021, for the people of the parishes.

The ACC council also established a Cons!tu!on and Bylaws for the ACC Pastoral Council which shall go into effect July 1, 2021. The Diocesan Planning Commi(ee asked that all parish councils be dissolved as of June 30, 2021, with the one ACC Pastoral Council to take their place. The representa!ves to ACC Pastoral Council will be in future bulle!n.

cheer on the whole diocese and be filled with the love of community and the spiritual gi%s of our faith. All are welcome to a(end this event. For more informa!on or to register, visit h#ps://stcdio.org/2021-diocesan-ministry-day.

Bishop Ke(ler recently wrote a le(er to the people of the diocese about the decision by the U.S. bishops to move forward with the dra%ing of a teaching document about the Eucharist. This decision has received much media a(en!on, and some of the repor!ng about it has misconstrued the nature of the document. Read Bishop Ke(ler's column at h#ps://stcdio.org/2021/06/25/bishop-ke#ler-my-hopes-for-a-teaching-document-on-the-eucharist/.
