A monstrous Mount Kilimanjaro of a non-contact air ‘high five’ to our talented, creative and resourceful class for all the effort and entertainment in your blogs, emails and letters. It has also been immensely enjoyable and emotional to catch up with you over the phone (and for those of you who I haven’t spoken to yet, I can’t wait to catch up this week). I am in awe of how resilient and positive you have all been. Life is for the most part, wonderful, but always throws up a few surprises and you have all demonstrated an ability to adapt and try to make the best of circumstances outside of our control, which you should all be incredibly proud of. For our bicep-bulging and sweat-dripping exertions, we’re currently tracking on 843 hours and 30 mins. Furthermore, when combining our total with Y6’s, we account for 70% of the school’s overall exercise effort! As the senior school classes, we have a role model responsibility and you are all doing SBSP proud! 24th June 2020

Dear Year 5!

A monstrous Mount Kilimanjaro of a non-contact air ‘high five’ to our talented, creative and

resourceful class for all the effort and entertainment in your blogs, emails and letters. It has also

been immensely enjoyable and emotional to catch up with you over the phone (and for those of you

who I haven’t spoken to yet, I can’t wait to catch up this week). I am in awe of how resilient and

positive you have all been. Life is for the most part, wonderful, but always throws up a few surprises

and you have all demonstrated an ability to adapt and try to make the best of circumstances outside

of our control, which you should all be incredibly proud of.

For our bicep-bulging and sweat-dripping exertions, we’re currently tracking on 843 hours and 30

mins. Although we’re second behind Y6, I calculated that our tally counts for almost a third (31%) of

the school’s exercise total (in time). Furthermore, when combining our total with Y6’s, we account

for 70% of the school’s overall exercise effort! As the senior school classes, we have a role model

responsibility and you are all doing SBSP proud! Let’s keep it up for the home straight over the next

few weeks (where in a marathon race, runners hit ‘the wall’ and find sustaining their pace and

momentum difficult).

I am continuously having to expand my superlative range of vocabulary to keep my descriptive

language varied in singing all of your praises! Our Y5 blog is really taking off with an eclectic range

of creative and thoughtful posts. Pepe – your camping anecdote was side-splittingly hilarious! You

really have writing promise and your choice of poem about ‘night’ and commentary was both amusing

and meaningful. Roman – I’m relatively certain the dream I had about Mexican food was due to your

burrito post and I incorporated some of your history questions into a weekly quiz with my friends and

family! Sebastian – thank you for revealing your ‘pi’ riddle (which I didn’t crack ☹) and your jokes

were eye-wateringly amusing! What do you call a one-eyed dinosaur? Doyouthinkhesaurus 😊.

Your five facts about things that happen every sixty seconds were fascinating … If only we could add

‘Arsenal actually being able to defend for a sixty second period in a ninety-minute game’ to your list

☹!

Adelina – your ever-expanding artwork collection is truly remarkable. Your owl, squirrel, floral and

philosophical pieces are all captivating on the eye and engaging in thought. Your sushi spread

images were salivating and the instructions are very welcome - I intend to jump onboard the

homemade sushi train! Marina – your family poem was cheerfully chuckling and gave a lovely

humorous insight into your family life. I am still baffled by your creative car word problem (so please

put my mind at ease!). Your ‘rough and tumbled’ angel and ‘grill-flipping’ cherub posts were

intriguing and engaging. I always enjoy art that makes you stop and think. Max - I’m so impressed

to hear that you have been paddle boarding like an intrepid adventurer! Mayar – your ‘Wi & Fi’

cartoon really deserves to be published or converted into a multi-million-pound Marvel feature film!

For a succinct update – Sophie has expanded her bread range to include a rustic roll or ‘hubba bubba

bread’, due to its delightful chewiness. Bobby enjoyed a weekend picnic and her recent haircut is

perfectly timed for the warm weather period we’re experiencing. Instructions, answers and questions

all below.

Keep on smiling Y5 and keep in touch with each other.

All my thoughts and best wishes,

Mr Tauchert

Last week’s answers: 1) A metaphor – figurative language where a word or phrase is applied to

an object or action which it is not to be taken literally. A simile – figurative language

involving the comparison of one thing with another to make a description more emphatic or

vivid.

Examples by magnificent Mayar 😊:

Simile: ‘She slept like an angel’ – she slept soundly

Metaphor: ‘She’s such an angel’ – she is wonderful

2)

The result between the red and white shirts of Arsenal and the light-blue shirts of

Manchester City will determine how dishevelled Mr Tauchert’s hair will be tomorrow.
