Dear fellow UIC Shareholders,

Fall is quickly passing into winter and our days are growing cooler and shorter. The weather is requiring our attention, the animals of the Arctic are migrating, and the hunting and whaling season is open. We offer our prayers to all of

our hunters and whaling crews for success, and to return home safe and unharmed. I am very proud of our Iñupiat culture and traditional values, where we share our fall harvest bounty with our elders, small children, and those who are unable to care for themselves.

With the recent loss of several Utqiaġvik citizens due to suicide, I want to express my prayers and support to the families and friends that are suffering such a tragic loss. It is so important for us to help each other to prevent suicide. If you suspect someone is depressed, upset, or thinking of taking their own life, please reach out to them and help. See the suicide prevention ad in this newsletter for assistance and where to learn more about helping yourself and/or others suffering with the symptoms that could lead to suicide.

As with the changes of the season, UIC experienced a change of leadership in October. Captain Terry Moore retired from our Government Services Division after 14 years at the helm. It is my honor and pleasure to have known and worked with Terry, a true man of talent, dignity, and wisdom. He will be missed.

Quyanaq.

Stuaqpak Town Hall Meeting

Begich Capital Partners and the Stuaqpak Team was thrilled to see such a huge crowd attend the Stu-aqpak Town Hall on October 10th. They are excited to be a part of the Utqiaġvik community and look forward to providing a grocery store that not only provides the groceries and goods that are needed, but is also a gathering place for the community. They ask for everyone's patience as they get things in the store cleaned, updated, and up to standard. They won't be able to do everything right away, but want you to know they are working hard for you.

Mark Begich and The Stuaqpak Team say "thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at Stuaqpak".

News from UIC Science

Members of UIC Science traveled by helicopter to Icy Cape to collect soil and insect samples, along with taking pictures of the landscape for references on soil remediation. UIC Science also helped visiting re-searchers install equipment at Cape Simpson, which aids in their research on coastal erosion, and water current directions and temperatures.

Also, NOAA asked UIC Science to retrieve a faulty "sail drone" out in the Beaufort Sea approximately 28 Miles Northwest of Utqiaġvik. The rudder had broken while it was following some ice caps. It was brought to Point Barrow where it was properly dis-mantled and then sent back to NOAA headquarters for repairs. Hopefully, it will be sent back out into the ocean in the near future.

S&T Group Plans Hurricane Dorian Relief Effort

Bowhead’s Systems and Technology (S&T) Group subject matter experts support Weapons and Tactics, Personnel Recovery, and Training Readiness divisions for U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, FL. On September 1, Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas as a major hurricane. In the hours following, the Air Force Special Operations Command was tasked with creating a no-fail plan to support a relief effort.

Our S&T Group subject matter experts researched and accomplished landing and drop zone surveys for Gold Rock Airfield, located east of Freeport, Bahamas. Their plan was to enable nine MC-130J transport aircrafts and multiple CV-22 special mission aircrafts to utilize this airfield to deliver supplies and rescue personnel in the Bahamas. Even though the planned airfield was not utilized due to Grand Bahama International airport re-opening, it shows Bowhead personnel are knowledgeable, vastly experienced, and always ready to answer our nation’s call anytime, anyplace.
