English Terms Assessment- Language and Literature
Register- a register is a variety of a language used for a particular purpose or in a particular social setting. (Audience)
Style- The author's choices regarding language, sentence structure, voice, and tone in order to communicate with the reader
Purpose- One's intention or objective in a speech or piece of writing
Audience- speculating about the reader’s expectations, knowledge, and disposition with regard to the subject writers explore
Form- Style, design, and arrangement in an artistic work as distinct from its content
Loaded language- Wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes
Bias- prejudice in favor of or against one thing
Rhetoric- it is the art of speaking or writing effectively.
Propaganda- derogatory information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view
Satire- the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.
Tone- A writer's attitude toward his or her subject matter revealed through diction, figurative language, and organization on the sentence and global levels.
Structure- Text structure refers to how the information within a written text is organized.
Primary Source- a primary source is a document or physical object, which was written or created during the time in focus.
Secondary Source- A secondary source interprets and analyzes primary sources.
Ethos- credibility
Pathos- emotional appeal
Logos- logical reasoning
Aristotle’s Triangle- The Speaker, Audience and Subject
Testimonial- someone important or famous says you should buy our product
Transfer- Associating products with something you like or value
Plain folk- Speak to people in plain and simple terms
Spin- The attempt to turn negative evidence into something that the public will perceive positively
Bandwagon- everyone is doing it
Fear- To cater to people's apprehensions
Humor- To cater to people's apprehensions
