Term 4 Week 7 Principals Message Dear Parents, The last few weeks of term four are always busy and exciting and this year is no exception. Students have completed assessment tasks and teachers are currently writing reports. Students will bring home Progressive Assessment Folders to accompany reports that have work samples and assessment tasks that give evidence to the learning expressed in the student‟s report. Reports will be issued to students on Tuesday 13 th December. Some of our junior students have taken up the opportunity to attend the annual „Swim School‟ Program that aims to enhance the swimming skills of students. Mr Faulkner and Mrs Houston will be supervising this program as they have Aus Swim qualifications. Year 6 are gearing up for their annual „Fun Day‟ which will be held next Thursday. They are preparing their stalls and making sure that they have „fun‟ on their agenda. Students will be able to purchase „tokens‟ on the day to use at the stalls. It is a wonderful experience for our children and every year we are amazed at the creativity and organisational skills of our senior students. Of course year 6 are also looking forward to their Year 6 Farewell which will be held at Kahibah Bowling Club this year. We are indeed limited by our choice of venue in most years because of our large numbers and we try hard to keep tradition in having our parents included in the celebration. Year 6 are also looking forward to their end of year „party‟ experience at Imax and Luna Park in Sydney. They certainly are busy bees! Carols on the Green (Wednesday 14 th December) is also shaping up to be wonderful event. Students are preparing their musical items and our committee is planning for a bumper year as we are very excited about having our first event on the „new‟ flat. Dust off your Christmas t-shirt and come along and have some fun. At Floraville Public our students definitely know what it means to be Australian and we sing the National Anthem every week with pride at our K-6 assembly and twice a week in even weeks when Primary and Infants assemblies are held....and we sing both verses! Finally, a big thank you to parents for your support during this busy term. Our children work hard in their classrooms as we have high expectations for their learning but we also like to offer them other opportunities to enhance their learning and to celebrate their learning and we could not do this without parental support Regards Mrs Saurins Relieving Principal

Principal’s Message Dear Parents,

The last few weeks of term four are always busy and exciting and this year is no exception. Students have completed

assessment tasks and teachers are currently writing reports. Students will bring home Progressive Assessment Folders to

accompany reports that have work samples and assessment tasks that give evidence to the learning expressed in the student‟s

report. Reports will be issued to students on Tuesday 13th December.

Some of our junior students have taken up the opportunity to attend the annual „Swim School‟ Program that aims to enhance the

swimming skills of students. Mr Faulkner and Mrs Houston will be supervising this program as they have Aus Swim

qualifications.

Year 6 are gearing up for their annual „Fun Day‟ which will be held next Thursday. They are preparing their stalls and making

sure that they have „fun‟ on their agenda. Students will be able to purchase „tokens‟ on the day to use at the stalls. It is a

wonderful experience for our children and every year we are amazed at the creativity and organisational skills of our senior

students.

Of course year 6 are also looking forward to their Year 6 Farewell which will be held at Kahibah Bowling Club this year. We are

indeed limited by our choice of venue in most years because of our large numbers and we try hard to keep tradition in having

our parents included in the celebration. Year 6 are also looking forward to their end of year „party‟ experience at Imax and Luna

Park in Sydney. They certainly are busy bees!

Carols on the Green (Wednesday 14th December) is also shaping up to be wonderful event. Students are preparing their

musical items and our committee is planning for a bumper year as we are very excited about having our first event on the „new‟

flat. Dust off your Christmas t-shirt and come along and have some fun.

At Floraville Public our students definitely know what it means to be Australian and we sing the National Anthem every week

with pride at our K-6 assembly and twice a week in even weeks when Primary and Infants assemblies are held....and we sing

both verses!

Finally, a big thank you to parents for your support during this busy term. Our children work hard in their classrooms as we have

high expectations for their learning but we also like to offer them other opportunities to enhance their learning and to celebrate

their learning and we could not do this without parental support

Deputy’s Message

Positive Affirmation – Quality This week‟s affirmation is “Every day I am responsible for what I achieve‟ This affirmation is about Quality. This affirmation reminds us that we all have to take responsibility for ourselves. Just like we own our behaviour, we also own our learning. We must think every day about how lucky we are in this country to receive free education and how we are responsible for how much we learn. Remember; you can do it!

At Floraville we begin the spring with an Aerobics Spring Challenge! Our teams spent last Saturday at Hunter School of Performing Arts competing in the annual Aerobics Spring Challenge. Our girls were up bright and early, make-up on and leotards ready to go. All of our students performed with pride and our newest team the Firebirds came away with a bronze medal at their first ever attempt. How exciting!

Busted! Mrs Saurins caught Kameron Jolly once again hanging around the library borrowing books! Keep reading Kameron, very proud of you! SUPER SPELLER JAKE ROBERTSON OF 1DJ

Jake is “Mr Consistent” when it comes to spelling. Visiting 1DJ this week I

learnt about their 100 club. To be included in the 100 club children are

required to attain 100% on their weekly spelling test. Jake consistently

scores 100% and has a perfect record for the entire year. Well done Jake!

Congratulations to all Floraville students who regularly achieve great results

in spelling each week.

in our school this week will provide a practical workplace experience

allowing them to gain valuable skills and knowledge about teaching (from the other side!). We hope their

experience is a positive and rewarding one.

AppleShop Excursion

This week, the Life Skills Group attended an excursion to the Apple Store where they were able to access the

Apple iPad and interact with the latest cutting edge technology and

applications.

A fabulous time was had by all and congratulations to them on their

beautiful behaviour as representatives of Floraville Public School.

K – 2 Movie Day

Alvin and the Chipmonks is the movie to be shown.

Getting Creative!

Lake Macquarie primary school students were invited to create an

artwork for the 2011 „Keep Your Backyard Clean‟ student sign

competition. Council‟s Manager of Sustainability, Alice Howe, said the

competition aims to develop in students a sense of ownership over

parks and foreshores as an extension of their own backyard.

“This is a chance for students to use their creative skills to develop an artwork promoting the message „keeping Lake Macquarie clean is everyone‟s responsibility‟, Dr Howe said. “The winner will have their artwork printed onto a sign and installed at a local park or foreshore area.”.

At Floraville Public School several students entered the competition and Zak Mitten won the event last Saturday. Congratulation Zak on an amazing art-work.

Gifted and Talented Mathematics & Science Workshop

Skellybones is a G.A.T.S program that taught us about how archaeologists estimate the height and other statistics

about skeletons. We, Lachlan Powell, Ryan Stutchbury, Casey Turner and Wesley Osmond participated in this

G.A.T.S project. We were in groups 4 and 5 and each group got a bone to measure. The bones were the thumb,

finger, femur, tibia radius, ulna and humerus. The groups had to measure the bone that they were given at the

start on everybody within their group and record the information on to a table. Then we had to graph the

information to find the average length of the bone and therefore the height of Skellybones. We were 99.2%

accurate on Skellybones height. This was a truly great experience and we highly recommend this workshop to any

student in the years to come.

THANK YOU!!

Kinder 2012 News

The final classroom visit for the Kindergarten children of 2012 occurred last Thursday. The children went with the

teachers to the classrooms to make a hat, listen to a story and play some games. The parents went to the hall to

learn how to book their Best Start interviews online. (Thanks to Mr. O’Shannessy) Then our lovely P&C parents

provided them with morning tea. Once again many people were involved with the success of the morning. Thank

you to Margaret and her team in the canteen, the Band committee for providing 2 big slab cakes and the

wonderful parents who sent in cakes to welcome our new Floraville families. On Wednesday 30th November from

5.30-7.30, there will be another Kinder Connections picnic for the families of Kindergarten children from 2011 and

2012. This will be held on the Flat. The school is providing a sausage sizzle and the children will play games and

get to know each other before they come to school next year. This year’s parents will be able to give some helpful

tips on starting school and what to expect from a parents point of view. Please return your RSVP by November

25th to assist with catering.
