We look forward to finishing the year off with a bang. Term 4 is a wonderful time to celebrate our students and the wonderful year they have had. This term will be a busy time and there will be many exciting weeks ahead. Stage 2 Camp At the end of Term 3, Year 4 students were lucky enough to attend their outdoor sport & recreation camp, held at Nepean Active Centre, Douglas Park. The camp was a huge success. The students had a wonderful time, experiencing a range of activities that are built on fun, trust and personal challenge. Taking on some of these activities and overcoming any personal fears has a very positive and long lasting effect on the student’s strength of character, confidence and ultimately their self- esteem. I’d like to thank Mrs Casdas, Mrs Cabrera, Mr Wilson, Mrs Howard & Mrs Garrett for giving up time with their own families to provide our students with this wonderful experience and their organisation and supervision over the three days. The children appreciate you providing them with such a memorable experience. Public Speaking I would like to take this opportunity to wish Jayda J from 3/4 Coral good luck in her Public Speaking Competitions over the next few weeks. Jayda will represent our school, zone and region in the State Multicultural Public Speaking competition next Friday, we are extremely proud of Jayda, reaching this level of the competition is an outstanding achievement. Jayda will also Week 2 Week 3 represent our school and zone at the Regional Public Speaking competition in the coming weeks and we also wish her luck at this event. Notes sent home

Selective High School Applications (Current Year 5 students applying for a Year 7 position in 2020) At the end of Term 3, notes were sent home with Year 5 students about applying for Year 7 entry into a selective high school in 2020. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 14 March 2019, however, you must apply online by 12 November 2018. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2020, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email

address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online are available at https:// education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7. The application website opens at the link above on 9 October 2018 and closes on 12 November 2018. You must apply before the closing date. There are no paper application forms. Please see Miss Taylor if you have any questions. Public Speaking Success! Congratulations to Lincoln (Stage 1), Jayda (Stage 2), Andrew (Stage 3) on their success at District Public Speaking. With Lincoln and Andrew coming second and Jayda first, it really demonstrated the rich depth of talent we have at Wattle Grove and the strength of our public speaking programs. You were all magnificent on the day and the school is very proud of all your efforts. Jayda will now be competing at the next level against the top 15 students from 250 schools in the Sydney region. This will occur in November, after she competes at the State level of the Multicultural Perspectives competition in October. Best of luck in the upcoming events, Jayda!

School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) 2019 School student applications for 2019 open from Monday, 15 October 2018. Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 do not need to re-apply if they:

- are continuing at the same school - are residing at the same address - have not been sent an expiry notification

from Transport for NSW Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification. Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply. Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply. If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2018 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2018, the system will automatically cancel a card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out during December 2018 and January 2019. We have included more information from Transport NSW on the back page of this Newsletter.

Welcome I would like to extend a warm welcome to the families who have joined us this week. I hope your time at our school will be a memorable one. Education Assistance Scheme DCO provides a range of services and resources for Defence children, to assist with the transition between schools and education systems when a member is posted within Australia, and to provide support for the unique needs of Defence students. Defence may reimburse fees for educational services external to the school. Students may be entitled to up to 14 weeks of tutoring in any subject that has been recommended by the

school principal or the child’s teacher. This applies to primary and secondary students, within the first 18 months of commencing at the new school. Deployments and Absence Please make sure you let your child/ren’s classroom teacher or I know if a member of your family is away for an extended period of time. Having this knowledge will go towards supporting the student/s at school throughout the absence period.
