Ngatimoti Festival 2015 Only 1½ weeks to go! Why do we have a Festival? The kids love it!

It brings our people together

We can showcase our wonderful school and community

We raise significant funds

Fourteen years ago it was decided to have one big fundraiser to support the schools finances. As well, we try to

make life easier for parents by not expecting them to pay out of their own pocket for too many ‘extras’. For example,

if we have a performer or show at school such as El Gregoe the magician or the Twisty Twins, we have not charged

parents. Over the past few years we have also paid for student stationery at the beginning of the year, bought a class

photo for each child and paid for bus transport to sports and events. We have subsidised many camps and trips. We

bought school gazebos, the greenhouse, gymnastics mats and lots of sports gear, laptops, ipads and TV screens. This

year we have paid for all students to have a series of dance lessons in Term 1 with Ezra and Dean, the Year 8s went

to Whenua Iti for leadership training and all students learned Life Education lessons with Harold the giraffe! We have

built the concrete rebound wall and installed a new piece of playground equipment for junior students this year. Of

significance also is the extra teacher aide time we have provided many students, by employing Judy, Amanda and

Glenn. None of these things are possible if we rely on Ministry of Education money and so we are very grateful for

the profits raised by the Festival.

This is why we really appreciate EVERYBODY committing to help at Festival time! Thank you to those who have

already made a scarecrow, brought items for the White Elephant, put flyers out etc etc. There is so much to do

before, during and after Festival, but it is all worth it!

If you can, please

Make and display a scarecrow asap

Bring in your eggs, lemons, ice-cream containers with lids.

Let Amanda know what else you can do to help – check the roster!

Let us know if you are able to lend us a BBQ, outside chairs/tables, shade umbrellas, small animal cages, carrier bags, chilly bins, rice cookers… more in next week’s checklist – give Amanda a call/email with any questions!

Do you go to Nelson/Richmond often? We need someone to collect rolls of newsprint from Nelson Mail.

Flyers Thanks for all your help distributing flyers – we have most of them out now but if you are going anywhere special you think we may not have covered please come and collect a couple more. Similarly if you have a roadside stall we could add a few flyers to please give us a call.

EGGS Please send in your surplus eggs for our whitebait stall. Eggs must be fresh, i.e. not more than 2 weeks old on festival day. Thanks!
