of our own coaches and provincial
sport students to answer some
difficult questions on Sportsmanship.
The students and our panel loved the
interaction.
Much time also went into preparing
for our Honouring Night. This was,
without a doubt, the highlight of the
year! Each student honoured God
with his / her own talents and the
result was an evening that truly
honoured God above all. The message
was powerful and the evening was
truly anointed.
We are already busy with our planning
for next year. The focus will be on a
Biblical Worldview specifically in the
area of Creation and Science. But for
now, we trust that you will enjoy the
holiday and that you will have a
blessed Christmas and New Year as
you put Christ in the centre of it all.
This term has gone past so fast! We
are grateful as we stand at the end of
2014 for the opportunities we had to
sow into the lives of our students. In
every fourth term we have chosen to
look at a domain of life. This term we
focused on the Sport Domain.
1. We started the term with an
Impact Outreach Day for the Grade 7
to 9 students. The day was a huge
success as our students bridged the
gap to play games and have fun with
students from the Morning Star
School, Alpha. The day ended with a
powerful assembly on the topic of
“Choices”. Each student had the
opportunity to share his / her faith
with another student from Alpha. A
number of Alpha kids made a
commitment to God on the day.
2. In our first assembly, Paul Harris
laid the foundation of God’s purpose
for Sport and we looked at “Honouring
God through Sport”. The students
learned a lot around the purpose of
sport and the character a Christian
sportsman or woman should have.
3. We were privileged to have
Frikkie Welsh (former WP rugby
player) back at one of our assemblies
to talk about Ethics and Sport. The
students responded well and asked a
lot of questions. It was great to hear
his heart on this topic.
For our last assembly, we had a panel

TERM 4 , 2014
their Grade 11 year. We are convinced that this will take the pressure off the AS Level course in Grade 12, which will be welcomed all!
Please keep an eye on the school web-site for the update of the 2015 year calendar, as well as the publication of the High School class timetables for the first semester of 2015. These should all be available and up to date on our website (www.escs.org.za) by 14 January 2015.
At our Honouring Night event we said goodbye to the following High School staff: Christo Sampson, Clarence Wolhuter, Hugo Rademeyer and Bian-ca Marais and we thank them for their input into the life of the school for a season. We welcome the following new staff on board for 2015: Mari-nette Nell (Biology), Kathrine Marais (Geography) and Sonet Roodt (English). We look forward to working with them and pray that they will be very blessed as they embark on this new season in their lives.
To all our hard working staff and stu-dents, as well as our parents, we wish you a blessed holiday ahead and a refreshing time of rest.
What a whirlwind term this has been! We have had three grades writing ex-ternal Cambridge examinations in the same term – the Grade 12’s wrote their final Matric examinations, the Grade 10’s wrote their IGCSE Afrikaans and Physical Science examinations and a select group of Grade 9’s wrote their English and Science Checkpoint exami-nations. The Matrics began writing their finals in the school holidays, so we had a full team of examination officers, invigilators and admin staff at school during that week. My sincere appreciation goes to the team, who were not even phased by a full, sur-prise Cambridge inspection in week one, which we passed with flying col-ours!
The results of the Grade 10 and 12 Cambridge examinations will be pub-lished online on 21 January (which is the first day of Term 1 next year). Dur-ing the preceding week, we’ll email a user name and a password to each student, enabling them to access their online results themselves. These should be available for download at 9:00 am. Most university admission faculties appreciate a printout of this document as soon as it is printed out.
They would have had online access to the Cambridge examination results two days before the school and the students access their results, but en-suring that a printout is placed in the student’s file is helpful. Approximately a week to 10 days later the official Statements of results will arrive and at this time a certified copy of the docu-ment should be submitted to the ad-missions department.
The Checkpoint results will arrive in the first week or two of term and will be distributed in class, together with some very useful feedback from Cam-bridge. For those students who have chosen IGCSE Physical Science or IGCSE Biology, the Checkpoint results will give them some very useful infor-mation on their strengths and weak-nesses in Biology, Chemistry and Phys-ics.
The Grade 9’s of 2015 will be writing their English and Science Checkpoint examinations in April and in June they will be selecting their IGCSE subjects and will begin the course mid-way through Grade 9. This will enable the Grade 9’s to write a few more IGCSE subjects at the end of Grade 10 and a reduced set of IGCSE in the middle of
CULTURE NEWS BY ADELE R IX
What an amazing and blessed year 2014 has been for HS Culture at ESCS!
I would like to say thank you to our heavenly Father for sharing His crea-tivity with us and all the talent He has blessed our students with.
ESCS's first Cook's Nook bake off on 27 October was a resounding success.
We had 9 teams participating and each team delivered exceptionally decorated cakes. The judges had a hard time picking a winner, but in the end there could only be one. In third place we had Team Jirsty, in sec-ond place The Jelly Beans and the win-ners of Cook's Nook bake off 2014 was
Team Koeksisters.
Well done to all the participants!
Battle of the bishops took place on 14 November and amazingly the learners that participated were more interest-ed in chess than all the snacks and drinks on offer!
This is a great testament to the pas-sion and focus these students of ESCS have for chess. The round-Robin of blitz chess left Wouter Kellerman standing as the champion. However, everyone walked away feeling like the afternoon was a win!
We ended off the term with a Camera Acting workshop on 8 December. The
afternoon was presented by well known Kyknet TV / Film actress, Chris-tel van den Berg. The learners were taught the difference between theatre and film acting, they were recorded on camera one by one and walked away with a lovely certificate at the end of the 3 hour workshop. We will be hosting the workshop again next year, because Christel can only host 20 stu-dents at a time. So WATCH THIS SPACE!
I am very proud to announce that we are launching three new culture clubs in 2015.

SPORT NEWS BY PETER SAWERS
The sports desk was overloaded this term with exciting events, from Cameraderie Cup heroics to Individual triumphs on the Hockey field by Jacki Mohlaba and in the swimming pool by Brandon Arlow, to mention a few. Talia Lewis represented SA at the Na-tional Fitness Aerobics and Hip Hop Championships in Prague in Septem-ber where she was awarded her Pro-
hockey. Both our girl’s and boy’s teams made it to the finals but we unfortunately lost to a strong Durbanville High outfit. Indoor Hockey commenced this term as well and we have several players participating in the National Schools Indoor Hockey Festival taking place in Cape Town next week.
This leaves me to thank Mr Budge, all our teachers who were involved in sport in one way or the other in 2014 and all our amazing external coaches for your support and hard work during the year, making 2014 a very significant growth year for sport. I wish all our awesome and supportive parents a very blessed Christmas and an exciting 2015.
tea Colours.
Term 4 culminated in a personal dream being realised with the completion of our Cricket field. The pictures below tell it all.
Our first team boys cricket team have completed their first season in the
league and although we did not win many matches we have learnt much and look forward to next season. 3 of our boys, Davey Rosselli, Bradley Hendricks and Sidney Moneron were selected for their age group, District North, teams.
Another first this term was the introduction of summer league
to have the outgoing team bless and
pray over the new team.
The last event for the year is the Grati-
tude Evening, where the students give
honour to various people who have
given of their time and expertise
(without remuneration). These valua-
ble partnerships, although many times
done behind the scenes, do not go
unnoticed and we cannot express
sufficiently our deep appreciation for
the seeds that are sown into the lives
of our students. May your harvest be
blessed!
It is always exciting seeing students
embark on new journeys: that is exact-
ly how we began the final term of
2014 with the Grade 11 Leadership
Camp in Elgin.
Taking the plunge into their Matric
year is always met with a mixture of
excitement and trepidation. So the
weekend is spent working through
activities that facilitate group interac-
tion, communication, problem solving
and establishing vision. It is a valuable
time allow God to inspire and
strengthen these vibrant, en-
thusiastic and compassionate
students. They cannot wait to
lead the school into all that God
has instore for 2015!
The new Leadership Team was induct-
ed on the 29th of October, with Jacki
Mohlaba and Jodie North being elect-
ed as Headboy and Headgirl respec-
tively. The other members of the team
are Sonja Louw (Academic Portfolio),
Candace King (Culture Portfolio),
Ruan Rheeder (Media Portfolio),
Sarah Harris (Discipling Portfolio),
Jessica Janutsch (Community
Portfolio), Kayla Hans (Operations
Portfolio) and Esther Schippers
