Principals Message Term 3 Week 4 - 14th August 2019 This term is into full swing and students and staff are working hard in improving their learning in and out of the classroom. It has been lovely to see students work samples this week, in light of the activities that took place during Education Week, the Book Fair and NAIDOC Day. The Singleton Learning Community of schools participated in their first day of training in Visible Wellbeing through the University of Melbourne at the Civic Centre. Professor Lea Waters led and facilitated the day which explained the research around positive education, positive psychology and strength based learning. It is very exciting that our whole community of schools will now be involved in this initiative and King Street Public School will be taking a lead and supportive role in the implementation for other schools. Professor Lea Waters then presented her research and book called the "Strength Switch" in Scone on Monday evening. King Street Public School had 8 parents and staff members who attended. Well done to all of our students and staff who dressed up using their super powers at our Book Fair on Thursday. It was wonderful to see so many costumes and super heroes present in the school and parading around the quad area after lunch. A huge thanks to Mrs Hawkins and Mrs Griffiths for their amazing organisation of the Book Fair. Our students were extremely lucky to participate in our NAIDOC celebrations. We were privileged to see the Wakkalang group perform and have our local Elders present for most of the day. Emily, our Aboriginal dance teacher, saw all of the students during the workshops and students were able to take part in story telling, Aboriginal art lessons and heard some amazing didgeridoo playing. A huge thanks to Aunty Pauline for all of your hard work in getting the stews organised for the students, staff and community members. Well done also to our Aboriginal committee for your organisation of the days events. The local Singleton AECG meeting will be held at Singleton High School, Ka-Wul Centre on Thursday 15th August from 3.45pm. We look forward to your attendance. Kindergarten Information Evening will take place in our school library on Tuesday 20th August. The new families are invited to a tour of the school at 5pm and then the information session will take place at 5.30pm. We look forward to meeting all of our new and existing families on Tuesday evening. Jonathan Russell S3B & S3J Investigate Microorganisms

Principal’s Message

Term 3 Week 4 - 14th August 2019

This term is into full swing and students and staff are working hard in improving their learning in and out of the classroom.

Book Parade ‘Reading is my Super Strength’

What a wonderful array of costumes we saw at our Book Parade last week. Our Book Fair was also very busy with lots of students purchasing books to keep up their love of reading. Well done to Mrs Hawkins and Mrs Griffiths on organising another great day. Thank you to all our parents, carers and grandparents that came along to support our students and our school.

Jump Rope for Heart Kicks off this Term!

Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program that has been run by the Heart Foun-dation for over 35 years. Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like ours have raised more than $75 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work. It’s important you register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising, simply follow this link to get started. https://jumprope.heartfoundation.org.au/register

Students will be skipping during morning fitness and breaks, during this time you can share their online fundraising page with family and friends to help raise money for this great cause.

We will hold our school Jump Off Day this term, date to be advised. This will mark the end of the program and is a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills.

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program

NAIDOC Day

NAIDOC Day was celebrated with a variety of activities last Friday including art, dance, sport and storytelling. Our students looked great dressed in traditional colours and enthusiastically participated in lessons hosted by our special visitors. Lunch was a delicious camp oven stew prepared by Auntie Pauline. Thank you to all who came to share their stories and culture and to Auntie Pauline, Mrs Stretton and Miss Streater for your organisation of the day.

Mrs Tan

Mrs Newton Rainbow Wall

Mrs Newton has been working with her groups on

identifying their individual strengths and how to use

them in their learning. This is a great example of

students using their strengths and their voice to

enhance their academic success.

Strengths on Display

Wonderful to see students showing kindness and

teamwork while volunteering their lunch time to help

Eric clean up our oval. Well done to everyone that

helped.

Maths Challenge Responses from Week 2.

Here are four photos as responses to the Week 2 Photo: Where do you see lines that curve, converge, are parallel or intersect in your everyday world?

Thank you to Arlie and Jack S, Mrs Morgan and Mrs Tan for these responses.

Why not challenge your family to see what they can find for this weeks ‘Units’ Challenge.
