Quality education in a caring environment Principal’s Report Education Week This week is Education Week, the theme being Shared Stories, Better Learning and Stronger Communities. During this week our school community will have the opportunity to visit the school to see first-hand the great things achieved day-in, day-out by students and teachers. Today was our Open Day where parents and guests were invited into the school to view classrooms, enjoy a concert and share a sausage sizzle with our students. The day commenced at 10:15am and the afternoon session involved students in a mini- Olympics activity. Tomorrow, our parliamentarians and school captains will continue to celebrate Education Week, by taking part in leadership activities at Hay War Memorial High School. Ready Set Kinder Today was the launch of our Ready, Set, Kinder program where our prospective students for 2017 enjoyed a Teddy Bears’ picnic with their teachers Mrs Houston and Mrs Headon. Ready, Set, Kinder will continue every Wednesday for the remainder of the year and is an extended transition program, designed to provide every one of our students with a prior to school educational program. Athletics Carnival Congratulations to Sturt House who were declared overall winners of our Athletics Carnival, held last Friday. The day ran perfectly with great participation from all students. Our age champions were: Junior – Lucy Shea, Jack Headon, 11 years – Jett Nawrotsky, Skye Lilburne, Darci Masters and 12/13 years – Lily Masters, Adrian Pascoe. The District Carnival is due to be held in Deniliquin on 19 th August. Thank you to Mrs Pearson and Mrs Simpson for their expert organisation on the day. UNSW Science Competition We have received some outstanding results in the recently held University of NSW Science Competition. With eighteen entries this year, the results are as follows: Distinction – Emily Caughey (Yr 2), Bailey Caughey (Yr 4); Credit – Jim Houston (Year 3), Lucy Shea (Yr 4), Will Simpson (Yr 5), Oliver Gaston (Yr 5), Olivia Huggins (Yr 5) and Luke Nevinson (Yr 5). Science certificates will be awarded at assembly on 12th August. Well done to all students who participated. Have a great week!     Congratulations to the debating teams Hay Lachlans -

    Masters, Kaitlin Cunningham and to the Hay Bidgees -

    Hannah Shea, Lily Huggins, Olivia Huggins, Telesa Cooper

    who competed in the Premier's Debating Challenge state

    knockout at school last week against teams from Parkview

    Public School and Leeton Public School. The teams

    debated issues such as We should ban all people from under

    18 using social media and We should only have 8 weeks of

    school holidays each year. The teams now face Hanwood

    Public School for a further three debates in week 7.

    Our annual athletics carnival was held in cold, windy conditions

    last Friday at the Hay Park No 1 Oval. Congratulations to all

    children who competed so enthusiastically throughout the day

    and gave their fellow athletes great support. Thanks to all

    teachers, parents and community members for ensuring another

    successful carnival. Special thanks to the Headons, Houstons and

    Clarks for setting up (and packing up). Many thanks to Robbie

    Parker and Cameron Clark for marking the oval, Ian Headon for

    starting our track events, Di Smith for recording and parents

    who assisted at field events – Kelly Gash and MaryAnn Headon.

    After Cobb’s win in the ‘march past’ Sturt (300) dominated,

    followed by Cobb 276, Cadell 187 and Oxley 164.

    Jett Nawrotsky broke a long standing record in the 11 Year Boys

    800m (James Howard 1992, 2.46.39) with a time of 2.42.50.

    Congratulations to the Hay Public School tennis team consisting

    of Skye Lilburne, Richie Weymouth, Lily Huggins and Tom

    Christensen who travelled to Griffith to compete in the PSSA

    4th round state tennis knockout against the small school's team

    of Ardlethan, Barellan and Ariah Park. A wonderful day was had

    by all with the smalls school team being victors 5 matches to 3.

    Our team showed wonderful sportsmanship and played

    brilliantly.

    Little Athletics Registration will be on Friday 19th August

    from 5-6pm at the grandstand No.1 oval – Hay

    Park. Season to commence 5pm on Friday 2nd

    September with our final night being Friday

    2nd September.

    FREE hotdog for children on our first night of

    the season.
