Year 11 and 12 Premier’s Cup Deba ng
On Monday 22 nd May the Year 11/12 Deba ng Team completed the first rounds of the Premier’s Cup Deba ng Challenge.
Declan Haines, Sarah Bradley, McKenzie Graham and Katana Murphy travelled to Bathurst High, with Mrs Hazzard, to com‐
pete against Bathurst High and Orange High School. The Blayney High School students were set two debates. The first was a
challenging debate which argued That local councils should conduct plebiscites to decide on council amalga ons and the se‐
cond debate examined the idea That all students should be taught a second language.
The students from both Orange High and Blayney High put forward a range of arguments about council amalgama ons but
unfortunately the Orange High team won the first debate, by a narrow margin. The second debate against Orange High chal‐
lenged the students to think about life a er school and the value of learning a second language. Unfortunately, Blayney High
was also defeated in this round. However, all of the Blayney High debaters presented interes ng arguments that argued
against all high school students undertaking the study of an addi onal language.
The Blayney High students’ skills and knowledge about deba ng, including deba ng processes, were strengthened through‐
out the day. It was an honour to take such an enthusias c and talented group of public speakers to represent Blayney High.
Well done to all of the team and special congratula ons to all of the team members, especially those who, prior to the day,
were inexperienced debaters. All of the students rose to a variety of challenges and they should be proud of the impressive
way that they represented Blayney High.

However…
The final years of the recommended funding increase have not been supported in full by the Federal Gov‐ernment and the recently announced Gonski 2.0 represents a seriously watered down version of the full recommenda ons.
Gonski 2.0 will see Blayney High School receive an addi onal $138,240 in funding over the next two years to allow us to expand our current programs and implement new ones. This appears to be a significant increase un l the figures of the original Gonski recommenda ons are examined. Under these Blayney High School should receive $529,947
If the Gonski 2.0 funding goes ahead in lieu of the fully funded Gonski recommenda ons Blayney High School will lose $391,707 in addi onal funding over the next two years.
The NSW State Government, the NSW Department of Educa on, The Teacher’s Federa on and school staff throughout the state con nue to lobby the Federal Government to fully fund the original Gonski rec‐ommenda ons. We stand united as we can see what effect the current Gonski funding is having on stu‐dent outcomes and we know the difference this addi onal funding will make to the educa on of your children.
If you feely strongly enough to add your voice of support, the P&C will be wri ng le ers to key govern‐ment members to pe on them to fully fund the original recommenda ons. Informa on will be given soon on how you can sign this pe on.

The home can get a li le stressful from me
to me with the study commitment re‐
quired of students.
I would just like to remind parents and car‐
ers that Homework Centre is running at
school on a Tuesday and Thursday a er‐
noon from 3.30 pm to 5 pm.
Homework Centre offers students an oppor‐
tunity to work in a quiet learning environ‐
ment.
Supervised by a teacher it allows students
to seek help from a professional thus allow‐
ing a student to maximise their produc vity.
Some students come both days, which o en
means all homework is completed and
home can be for relaxing and spending qual‐
ity me with their family.
Regular study habits are important to a stu‐
dent’s success. Educa on is an important
part of all students’ success in life. Please
consider arranging transport so as your
child can benefit from this opportunity.

amazing effort.
Late last term a number of Blayney High Students were selected to a end the Greater Region Rugby League Trials in
