From the Principal’s Desk Young Leaders Conference On Monday, a large number of our school leaders attended the Young Leaders Conference in Sydney. All reports indicate that the students had a fantastic day, that their representation of our school was outstanding and that they had the opportunity to build on their individual leadership skills. Many students indicated that Cate Campbell (Olympic Swimmer) was a crowd favourite. A massive thank you to Mrs Matthews and all the supporting parents who accompanied our leaders to this wonderful event. National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence Tomorrow, Quirindi Public School will participate in the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. We are asking ALL of our students to wear BLUE clothing and make a gold coin donation. Funds raised on the day will be used to continue developing resources to support anti-bullying in our school. The day will include a short assembly for students at 1pm followed by activities in classrooms. Remember, tomorrow Friday 15 March, WEAR BLUE!!! Walk/Ride Safely to School It is so wonderful to see so many of our students walking and riding to school every day. I encourage all families, as we do at school, to speak with your children about the importance of road safety. This could include crossing roads safely, wearing helmets, using footpaths, stranger danger and many other concepts. Harmony Day Next Thursday 21 March is Harmony Day. This is a day to celebrate all cultures and people living in Australia. This year, our school will be holding a short assembly to discuss the importance of Harmony Day along with a range of activities in conjunction with Winang-ali who are also providing a free BBQ for our students. It is shaping up to be a wonderful day next Thursday and one students should really enjoy. John Ireland Principal

Pre payment for Excursions Deposits have been taken for a few of our excursions this year with some still to come. We understand that parents will have multiple children attending these excursions near the same time. Sometimes budgeting for these costs can be challenging. Therefore we are encouraging you to commence paying amounts to your child’s account to help reduce the burden. All monies can be brought straight to the office in an envelope with your child’s name, class and what excursion it is for. We are hoping by paying off over a large period of time will help our families in some way.

Del’s Corner I've been doing some cooking here at the school. I want you to stop for a moment and think about the ingredients of a cake - the plain flour and baking powder, the bitter salt, the tasteless corn flour, flavourless eggs, and the delicious vanilla essence, sugar and icing. Although some of the ingredients taste revolting on their own, when blended into a mixture, there is the potential to create a very tasty cake. In our lives we will all experience sadness and heartache, but we also have times of joy and happiness. Tragedy and sorrow are not intended to create bitterness; rather when mixed with love, tenderness, and self-compassion, the blend can become truly magnificent - just like a delicious cake.

Dance Camp Dance camp was really fun. We did lots of dancing for CAPERS Regional dances and we went swimming and did other activities ie rope climbing in our spare time. Miss Kelly was one of our teachers. It was at Lake Keepit. I would definitely go again. Kayley Milligan – Year 6

Head Lice There has been an outbreak of head lice at the school. Head lice are very common, however they should be treated quickly to prevent them from spreading to other students. If you require information to help in the treatment of head lice, please contact the office for an information letter or the local Pharmacy for advice.

Young Leaders Conference Our 10 School Leaders were lucky enough to attend this years Young Leaders Conference in Sydney on Monday with another 4,500 students from across the state. Here is what some of the kids thought of the day. Samuel Payne – I personally thought that the Young Leaders Confrence was a great experience for not only me, but all the leaders. I am saying this because it was the most interesting school event that I have ever been on. My favourite part about it was how four well known leaders spoke to us about leadership in a way that isn’t boring. I even knew some of them. When we went out as a group for the breaks there was an amazing view from the place we ate morning tea. Caelan Gray – Tim Diamond was the first speaker. He spoke about when he went to Africa to decide if Cotton On should donate. The second speaker was Tamsin Janu who spoke about writing stories and her trip to Africa. It was great! Billy Nixon – My favourite speaker was Tim Diamond because he spoke about the Cotton On fundraiser and how he builds schools for kids over in Africa and how if you buy an avocado badge it feeds child a for a month – which is great! Blandford Horsesports On Friday March 8 2019, five students from Quirindi Public School attended the annual Blandford Public School horse sports day. All of the students had a fantastic day and showed excellent sportsmanship. All five students were lucky enough to win a ribbon on the day. Willow Tree Public School horse sports will be held next Friday March 22 2019. We look forward to seeing the results from this. Clothing Pool Donations We are asking if families can have a look through their cupboards at home for any old uniforms that they don’t need anymore. The uniform shop would love to take any donations of either winter or summer uniforms. Every donation would be very much appreciated.
