To foster an inclusive, collaborative and connected Rotman student body through a focus on developing student Engagement and School Spirit while supporting their Academic and Career experiences.

GBC First Year Section Rep Positions

• Academic Representative • Social Representative• Sports Representative

• Rotman GBC Const., art. VII, §39:Core Course Academic, Sports and Social Representatives for the 2YR program shall hold office from the date of their election until April 30 of that academic year.

Role Descriptions: Academic Rep

The Core Course Academic Representatives represent the interests of their respective classes on the GBC and to Rotman administration and faculty.1. To represent the interests of their classes to the GBC and Rotman administration

(including the PSO, CCC and Admissions Office), and bring student issues to the attention of the appropriate bodies.

2. To communicate to their classes on behalf of the GBC and Rotman administration.3. To work together to coordinate communication across all class representative

positions.4. To attend regular meetings with the PSO, CCC and VP Student Transition.5. To act as an advisor to Rotman administration, and assist with program

development and new initiatives of value to students.6. To meet with and provide feedback to instructors as appropriate.7. To conduct instructor evaluations at the end of each course.

Role Descriptions: Social Rep

The Core Course Social Representatives assist the Social Directors and represent the interests of their respective classes in planning social activities.1. To represent, summarize and communicate student concerns about social activities

from their respective classes and bring them to the attention of the Social Directors.

2. To attend meetings with the GBC Social Directors and VP Student Life as necessary.3. To assist the Social Directors in organizing all social events and activities throughout

the academic year. 4. To organize social activities for their classes, either independently or in conjunction

with the other Social Representatives.

• Rotman GBC Const., art. IV, §6b: The following shall be non-voting members of Council:The Core Course Sports and Social Representatives for 2YR and 3YR sections. Each section will elect one Sports Representative and one Social Representative. (3YR sections may elect two representatives who both share the Sports and Social duties.)

Nominations Process

• Students must email the Chief Returning Officer at [email protected] nominating themselves or another student.

• Rotman GBC Const., By-Law 2, §2: Each candidate for core course elected positions must be nominated by one other core course year student in their respective program (2YR or 3YR). Confirmation of the nomination must be emailed to the CRO, with a cc to each of the nominators.

• Nominations open Wednesday September 12th and will close on Friday, September 14th at 5:00 pm. The candidacy list will be emailed to the class after the nomination closure.

The Election Speeches

Election speeches will be held during the lunch break/after class on Monday Sept 17th & Tuesday Sept 18th. Speeches can be a maximum of one minute long, and the Chief Returning Officer and a member of the GBC will be present to oversee the process -- and to cut you off if you go on too long!

Voting will open at 4:00PM on Wednesday, September 19th and will close at noon on Friday September 21st at 12:00PM.

All voting will be done online and you will be sent a voting URL after the speeches. Results will be announced Saturday September 22nd.

The Campaigning Rules

• Please not that no other campaigning is allowed other than the in-class speeches and one-on-one interactions

• Rotman GBC Const., By-Law 2, §8: Candidates may speak with other students individually regarding their candidacy. However, mass campaigning for GBC positions is restricted as follows:

• Campaigning is restricted to a single official speech in person, as described below

• No posters, giveaways or other such mass campaigning is permitted• Mass emails or other mass messages are not permitted• Use of Facebook or other social media to announce a student’s candidacy to

one’s friends is permitted, provided that it does not constitute mass messaging to the relevant student body voting on the candidates position
