CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

TPC KIDS Mission Statement: Partnering with parents to make disciples by teaching and encouraging kids towards a lifelong, joyous relationship with Jesus.

Fall Greetings! Although, admittedly it doesn’t quite feel like Fall yet, school is back in session and new seasons in Children’s Ministry have begun.

In The Ark, we said “farewell” to two of our beloved Sunday School teachers. Both Cole Woulbourn and Bekah Hahn are off to pursue their college degrees in the Los Angeles area. They will both be sorely missed and we look forward to seeing them when they come home for holidays. We had a “graduation” party for them as well as for Hudson Allen as he is moving upstairs to the TPC Kids Sunday School class. His buddies in The Ark will miss him on Sunday mornings but TPC Kids is ready for his hilarious wit and thoughtful questions.

In TPC Kids, we are kicking off new curriculum for the year. We will be focusing on Digging into the Heart of God. This year-long curriculum brings a fresh approach to growing a lifelong relationship with God. As kids explore God’s character throughout the Bible, they’ll discover what it means to reflect God's Heart in everyday life. We launched our 2019-2020 Sunday school year with new TPC kids T-shirts!

One last exciting bit of news: I got an elder!!! I’m so very excited to announce that Shad Miller is the new Children’s Ministry elder!

Hi my name is Shad Miller. I am the new Elder for Children's Ministry. I am so excited to work with Brendy and help her in any way I can. The children's ministry is such a vital part of Templeton Pres. I love playing all sorts of games inside and out. I love animals—both house pets and wild ones. I look forward to ge ng to know all the kids and their families and seeing their love for Christ grow as they grow.

With gratitude, Brendy Alsup Director of Children’s Ministry

PASTOR’S PAGE

Although Pastor Charlie is on vacation, it’s not too likely he’s spending his time fishing. Our guess would be home repairs are high on the list...but hopefully a bit of rest in there, too.

Either way, we hope he’s having fun. :)

ANNOUNCEMENTS/DEACONS

CHOIR will resume SEPTEMBER 5th @6pm

in the Chapel. NEWCOMERS are WELCOME!

HELP NEEDED! TPC is hos ng dinner at ECHO Homeless Shelter on SEPTEMBER 16. Meal prep and servers needed. Please contact Kathy Westphal to help: 509/438‐6525 [email protected]

TPC now offers the option of ONLINE GIVING. In response to input from our members, as well as an effort to “keep up with the times”, direct withdrawal contributions can now be made from your bank account to TPC. From our

templetonpres.org website, go to GIVING on the home page menu bar, then click on the link to “access ONLINE GIVING”. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the church office.

Board of Deacons Looks Forward to Fall

The deacons thank everyone who contributed to the quarterly deacons offering in August. Over $600.00 was given,

which will be used to assist TPC members and friends who need some direct assistance. Also, from me to me,

the church provides vouchers for food or gas through the Templeton Deli and Market to those in our North County

community who need a bit of help.

The new Board of Deacons is in the process of contac ng each deacon’s parish. About 12 church families are

assigned to each deacon so that we can be available when a prayer need or some prac cal help is indicated. Please

feel free to let your deacon know when you can benefit from our support and service to you. If you do not yet know

who your deacon is, Julie in the office can tell you or you can contact me.

In addi on to serving a parish, each deacon has a specific responsibility to the church. Here are their assignments:

Secretary – Donna Woodruff

Treasurer – Kathy Loeschner

Prayer Chain – Wendy Olson

Communion – Betsy Bea y and Beverly Parr

Extended Communion – Carol Bower

Bereavement – Dena Wa and James Wenzel

Membership – Linda Hansen

Thanksgiving Baskets – Mick Lebens

Nomina ng Commi ee – Jan Marre

And, having listed Thanksgiving Baskets, Mick will be sharing with us this Fall how we can bless about 75 families with

this gi of food for the holidays. Look forward to an offering for that project in November.

In His Name, Frank Bush, Deacon Moderator

ROAR! Life is Wild. God is Good. VBS 2019 Recap

What a fantastic week we had July 8-11 venturing to Africa for Roar Vacation Bible School! Everyone was reminded each day that God is good! Even when life seems unfair or scary, or when we face big changes, He never leaves us, and is a strong refuge we can count on. We spent most of bible times hearing about the Israelites traveling

through the desert in Egypt. We carried water, one tiny cup at a time across the grass at the park to try and help the imaginary desert come back to life. Healthy snacks were served each and every day, and kids could be heard sing-ing and dancing and worshipping the Lord throughout our campus.

181 kids joined us for the program, and we couldn’t have possibly pulled it off without the 90 volunteers that showed up to help. From our busy kitchen crew, to station leaders, stage artists, photographers, crew leaders and assis-tants, craft helpers, daily clean up crew and more, VBS is a busy but wonderful time to see the body of Christ work-ing together for kingdom work. Our wonderful staff, Chief Charliebonga, Coco (Brendy) and Jambo (Dave) poured their hearts and time into their roles as leaders, engaging all of the children into times of faith building, worshipful hearts, and great joy. As usual, we couldn’t have pulled this off without the many generous donations and prayers from the congregation. Thank you!

New this year, we had a great first Night of Adventure for families with special needs on Tuesday July 9th. The activ-ities, snack, and schedule were specially designed to be inclusive for children of all ages and abilities. It being our first time, we got some great feedback and hope to continue this idea of making the church and our programs more available to families who often find they can’t participate because of their unique limitations.

Please join us as we continue to pray for all of the children and families in our community, that they would truly believe they can trust God in all things, and that the church is a welcoming, loving place to be drawn closer to Jesus in the hard times and the great times. God is good! -submitted by Leslie Wallace

FELLOWSHIP/MUG DRIVE

____________________________________________

Fellowship Apprecia on! Apprecia on!!

Thanks to all of you who have provided tasty snacks for our me of fellowship without having the

kitchen available. It has been a bit difficult but we have all managed and I have watched you all

come together cha ng and sharing life events with each other as well as the sweets, fruits, veggies,

and other treats that have been offered by gracious volunteers.

Many of you have signed up on our fellowship board but there are s ll a few empty spots, so please

check the board and see if you can find a spot that works for you.

We have a couple of surprises as we move into the fall months. You might no ce an odd entry

“B, B, B Scones.” Here’s the answer to your ques on – Bake a scone. Buy a scone. Bring a scone.

Fellowship will provide the strawberry jam, Devonshire cream and lemon curd to add to the scones

you bring. I’m sure the children might prefer cookies so we’ll try to make that happen too.

Remember the purpose of our coffee fellowship – to be together as a congrega on to make new

friends and deepen the friendships we have.

MISSION UPDATE/PRAYER NIGHT

September Update from Chiang Mai, Thailand

What a pleasure and rejuvenating inspiration it was to visit with you all during my June and July summer furlough. I do so look forward to catching up with each of you during the summer months! And it was indeed insightful to have Brielle Allen, a Grace International School graduate who attends Texas A&M,

speak in July about her parents’ experiences planting churches in Chiang Mai, giving you a better understanding of the Buddhist culture and its influences and the barriers experienced as we share the Gospel in Thailand where only seven percent of the people are Christians.

To the left is a picture of our new Grace campus. We are celebrating the 20th year of providing an exceptional, Christ-centered education to missionary children, enabling their parents to stay out in the mission field while keeping their children near to them. As you can see there is still quite a bit of work to be done, so the start of school has been delayed until September 2. However, we are not lacking in work to do. George is preparing to teach three classes of Ethics and then three classes of Comparative Religions while interning at his

other “job” doing administrative work at Global Mission Mobilization Initiative formerly SVM2. I’ll be teaching four classes of British Literature which, in the absence of an 11th grade English teacher this year, will include both juniors and seniors, giving me twice as many students as last year, and all of this while I fill the role of academic counselor due to a recent retirement. Prayer requests: Your prayers (and emails) are cherished!

Grace International School has received government approval to begin classes on September 2; however, there are still many critical pieces of the puzzle that must be put in place before the first day of school: lots of con-crete to be poured, internet to the buildings, new teachers and students oriented, curriculum developed, and much work with the 12th grade students as they prepare for their futures. Hope House Children’s Home has the opportunity to purchase the land on which the newly constructed campus is, ensuring that this ministry can res-cue children for many years to come. Funding for this is being sought. To contribute, go to projectsforasia.com

Pray for movement of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Thai people as Christians here share their faith with Thai neighbors and minister in the many small churches planted in Thailand.

Thank you for your prayers and support...Blessings to you all, George and Anne

WOMEN’S PRAYER NIGHT is back! We look forward to reconnecting and praying for one another as the new school year gets underway! Plan to join us the last Thursday of the month for this special time of sharing with one another. Location varies, so please check with Camille or Leslie for details.

STEPHEN MINISTRY/CLASSIFIEDS

____________________________________________

TPC is part of something REALLY BIG! Stephen Ministry is a lay caring ministry being used by more than 13,000 congregations worldwide to increase care and outreach to hurting individuals. Since Stephen Ministry began in 1975, well over one-and-a-half million people have benefited from the one-to-one, Christ-centered care of a Stephen Minister.

This care is entirely confidential—no one knows the identity of a care receiver except for his or her Stephen Minister and the pastor or Stephen Leader who paired the two together.

Stephen Ministers are laypeople in our church who go through 50 hours of intense training. They learn and practice the skills necessary to care for individu-als experiencing grief, health issues, divorce, spiritual crisis, job loss, and other life difficulties.

A Stephen Minister comes alongside a hurting person and meets with that person on a weekly basis to listen, care, encourage, pray, and provide emotional and spir-itual support. Men are paired with men; women with women.

We thank TPC for supporting Stephen Ministry. We are excited to be counted among the 13,000 congregations with a Stephen Ministry program! We are dedi-cated to providing Christ-centered care to anyone in our congregation or our community at large.

To initiate Stephen Ministry care for yourself or someone you know,

contact Lois Ecklund at (408)718-8613 (cell) or (805)461-1470 (home).
