Welcome! HOW TO ENROLL?Register at the Dr. Doug Sears Learning Center/Adult School Office (9229 Pentland Street Temple City, CA 91780) during regular office hours.

Registration and fees can be collected in the classroom the first two evenings of attendance. After the second night, registration and fees will be collected in the Adult School Office. Separate registration is required for EACH class. All students are to report to class at the first session. Anyone 16 years or older, or any high school graduate regardless of age or area of residence, may attend Temple City Adult School. Priority is given to adults 18 years and older. Students under 18 years of age, including day high school students, are admitted ONLY by permission of their high school counselor.

THE FIRST CLASS MEETING IS VERY IMPORTANTAny class may be discontinued if attendance falls below an adequate number of students to warrant support. Every effort will be made to combine comparable courses at the time of closing.

ATTENDANCE AND CLASS SIZERegular attendance is expected of all students. Each class must maintain a minimum average attendance. If the average attendance falls below the required number, the class may be closed or combined with others. Children are not permitted in Adult Education Classes.

AUDITING NOT PERMITTEDStudents are not permitted to audit or sit in a class without being officially enrolled in class.

gRADUATiONEach June, Temple City Adult School holds its annual commencement in conjunction with the Dr. Doug Sears Learning Center for those earning a diploma. The program includes brief speeches by representatives of the graduating class. School District administrators, Board of Education, and community members attend.

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA GRADUATION REQUIREMENTSA high school diploma is granted to any student who successfully completes the high school diploma requirements of the Adult School. The Adult School requests records from the student’s previous schools and grants full credit for any classes, except Physical Education, which were passed in the ninth grade or later. Elective credits are available through work experience, military service, trade and industrial courses, community college courses and G.E.D. testing. Students seeking a high school diploma must meet with the Adult School staff to enroll in classes and must see the Principal at least once each semester until graduation requirements are completed.

CREDiTStudents enrolled in classes for high school credit, whether applied toward an adult diploma or a day school diploma, MUST attend regularly to receive the necessary credit. Students who miss more than THREE sessions will not receive credit for the class.

CAHSEE EXAmAll Adult High School Graduates must pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). The exam has been scheduled three times during the 2010-2011 school year. Please contact the Adult School Office to schedule an appointment if you plan to graduate in June 2011 or after. CAHSEE Examination Dates:

This class is designed to prepare students to successfully pass the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). This program has two components, English Language Arts and Mathematics. The Mathematics part of the CAHSEE addresses statistics, data analysis and algebra. The English Language Arts addresses vocabulary, comprehension, writing strategies, and grammar. CAHSEE is a graduation requirement for a High School and Adult School Diploma.

Learn how to make the most current trends in crafts; bead and wire jewelry, decorate/tole painting, paper and fabric crafts. Each 10 week session features new projects. Join a class that can help you create all those wonderful items you see at the street fairs, boutiques or home decorating for the holidays. The Computer Survey Class is a ten week survey course designed to introduce new and beginning users to computers and office programs. The class will cover basic concepts of computing, including: hardware, operating systems, the Internet, and the use of common office applications on both a PC and MAC platform. By the end of the course, students will have beginner level skills for MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Excel. Fee $100.
