The equator is an imaginary line around the centre of the earth. It is measured at 0°.

Latitudeisthemeasurementofdistanceindegrees north and south of the equator.

FromtheequatortotheNorthandSouth Pole there are 90°oflatitude.Linesoflatituderunhorizontally.

Longitude is the measurement of distance in degrees east or west of the Prime Meridian. The Prime Meridian divides the earth in half and passes throughGreenwich,Englandat0°. All lines of longitude pass through the North andSouthPoles.Theyrunvertically.Thereare 180° of longitude on each side of the Prime Meridian.

On the opposite side to the Prime Meridian is the InternationalDateLine.
