The population of drug users in America is

alarmingly growing younger. With more

teenagers getting in the picture, more centers

are in need of addressing the needs of a

younger audience.

11 .7% of 8th graders have marijuana

experience, and 35.1% of 12th graders have

done the same. As the organic drug is thought

as the gateway drug, most of its users can be

led to try more and explore different drugs

given the opportunity, and abuse those that

supposedly help than harm.

Addiction

Aside from illegal drugs, even prescription drugs are abused by teens, and are acquired

free from relatives and friends.

Because of the deteriorating values and principles of the youth, most find it normal and

harmless to try cocaine, heroin, and crack at least once or twice in their lifetime. This

mindset greatly tampers with young ones and their priorities, with a little peer pressure,

the stand on certain issues can easily be swayed—a large factor that contributes to the

prevalent presence of drug addiction in teenagers in America these days.

By the 8th grade, 28% of the teens have drank alcohol, 15% of which have tried smoking

cigarettes, and 16.5% have tried using Marijuana.

Alarmingly, the number of people dying from prescription drug abuse is higher than those

who OD’d on both heroin and cocaine combined.

Recovery

Teenage years are formative to

personal development and growth. It is

normal to make mistakes with the

intention of growing, discovering and

exploring everything life has to offer—

even the bad.

Getting hooked may have never been

part of the plan but it is an issue that

needs to be addressed with loved ones

to serve as support.

Family is always first despite the

difficulty of sharing the burden and

being completely honest with them.

Signing up for a program that can

facilitate recovery can speed up the

journey to sobriety for the struggling

youngling.

Teen addicts need special care,

attention and handling. They have

tendencies to retract to their childhood,

or to a time where everything for them

was perfect—a condition that may

create confusion without proper

knowledge and guidance.
