TED is a global platform devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. TEDx is a locally organized not for profit event that focuses on individuals and innovation in our community.

The individuals involved with TEDxBasel have a passion for Building Bridges Breaking Boundaries in Basel. We believe in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world.

A Little History about TED

TED began in 1984 as a gathering place for innovators and leaders in the fields of Technology, Entertainment, Education and Design. 27 years later, TED has become a nexus for a global community of individuals who believe in the power of Ideas Worth Spreading.

TED.com currently has a library of over 900 amazing talks of such high quality that the site has become the platinum standard for innovation in digital storytelling. TEDtalks have been viewed over 400 Million times on youtube and TEDTalks and translated in over 81 languages in the TED Open Translation Project

Every week, in multiple cities, people are coming together to pursue ideas worth spreading.

TEDx is part of a revolution in global education made possible by local organizers wanting to engage their communities.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx - local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
