Economic Outlook 2014 v 2015

Business confidence has decreased from 2014, however the number of those who feel ‘indifferent’ has taken up this movement.

Unsurprisingly the most optimistic were those working in the Technology/Digital industry.

4

Hiring Intentions

IT projects are driving employment with almost a third of Hiring Managers planning to increase headcount in 2015, with a further 42% replacing leavers.

Industries that are hiring include: Government, ICT Services and Software and Finance.

5

IT Projects

The misalignment between projects and business objectives becomes critical as projects are a key focus in 2015 for many organisations.

The availability of skills will also be fundamental for project success as off-shoring increases.

6

Hiring challenges

Skills shortages are still a key concern for hiring managers with a third believing it is the biggest hiring challenge and will impact their business. The market is becoming increasingly candidate driven, meaning those with the right skills will be at a premium.

7

Hiring challenges

Cultural fit remains the most important attribute for three years running, however the value of technical experience in a previous role has jumped from 13% to 18% since 2014.

8

Perceived Job Security

Job seekers have become increasingly insecure in their jobs over the past 3 years.

Off-shoring has added to this insecurity within the IT sector, along with economic uncertainty.

9

Remuneration

Remuneration has remained relatively flat in 2014 and predictions for 2015 suggest only a moderate increase across the industry as a whole.

Certain skill sets however such as cloud, big data and digital will command higher rates as skills shortages in these areas hit the market.

10

Market Conditions: Skills

‘New world’ IT skills dominate the top 5 in demand for 2015.

Big data in particular has jumped from 5th in 2014 to 2nd, and mobility is a new entrant in the skills list for 2015.

11

Market Conditions: Outsourcing

It would seem job seekers fear of their job being outsourced is justified with a third of companies planning to do this in 2015.

12

Internal Processes: Time Lines

Two thirds of hiring managers report that recruitment processes are taking longer –most stated this was due to internal processes/red tape.

As a result 71% of job seekers have lost interest in a role.

Speed to hire is a key competitive advantage when certain skills are in short supply.
