1) SALIENT FEATURES OF THERMAX SYSTEM
1] Two stage evaporation ensuring Lowest steam consumption : Thermax
GNxtChill VAHPs comes with two stage evaporation technology which
ensures the lowest specific steam consumption as compared to other
contemporary VAHPs making them the most efficient VAHPs in their
category. The specific steam consumption is as low as 3.7 kg/TR/hr for small
to medium capacity range and 3.5 kr/TR/hr for large capacity range.
This results in substantial benefits to the customer during the entire Life
Cycle of the VAHP in the following ways: Lowest operating cost throughout the life cycle of the VAHP
Lowest water consumption in cooling tower resulting in savings of the
precious water
2] Online concentration measurement and control: Thermax GNxtChill
series is equipped with the state of the art Real-time Online Concentration
measurement which is displayed continuously on the control panel. This
feature is unique to Thermax GNxtChill series VAHPs. This concentration is
continuously compared with the Crystallization Concentration and correctiveactions are taken by the PLC immediately whenever there is any
discrepancy thereby virtually eliminating the Crystallization phenomenon.
This feature is distinctly different from the auto de-crystallization feature
which is Common for all VAHP manufacturers. Please note that this auto
decrystallisation is only a reactive safety (will come into effect only after the
crystallization phenomenon has started) and not a proactive control.
3] Advanced Series flow Technology: Vapor Absorption Technology has got
only 2 major threats Corrosion and Crystallization. Thermax GNxtChill
series comes with the Advanced Series flow technology which ensures that
Crystallization is completely eliminated and corrosion is minimized to the
maximum possible extent. This is mainly possible due to

Crystallization : Measurement of concentration online through our unique
Real-time Online Concentration Measurement as explained in point no.2
Corrosion: Corrosion depends on the Lithium bromide concentration and
temperature and leakages. Corrosion rate increases exponentially when
high temperature and high concentration occurs simultaneously. Thermax
has carefully selected Advanced Series Flow Technology (after absorbing
the technical knowhow from Kawasaki and supplying more than 400
machines in Parallel flow and Reverse flow VAHPs) so that highest
temperature of Lithium bromide and highest concentration never occurs
simultaneously. The below table will illustrate the same clearly :
Table below shows comparison of series and para flow for HTG & LTG
Parameter for HTG Unit Para flow
Advanced
Series flow
HTG temperature C 162 155
LiBr concentration % 64-65 60.5
Parameter for LTG Unit Para flow
Advanced
Series flow
LTG temperature C 88 90
LiBr concentration % 62-64 63
Also, the spraying Lithium bromide concentration in the absorber has to be
63% irrespective of the cycle. At 63% concentration the corresponding
crystallization temperature is 34C.
In Advanced Series Flow technology, the Spray solution lithium bromide
temperature (@ outlet of LTHE) is >48C. This wide temperature differential
between operating temperature and crystallization temperature (app. 14C)
ensures that the machine is always far away from the crystallization zone.
This difference is always maintained as we measure the concentration and
strong solution temperature.
In Para flow technology, Spray solution lithium bromide temperature (@
outlet of LTHE) is 40-41C. The temperature differential is very less (only 6-

7C) between the operating temperature and the crystallization temperature
as compared to the Advanced Series Flow Technology. So, when the
cooling water inlet temperature to the VAHP goes low or if there is any
fluctuation in the load, the Spray solution lithium bromide temperature @
outlet of LTHE reduces thereby making Para flow VAHPs more susceptible
to crystallization.
The above points clearly prove that the claim of Para flow technology
being less prone for crystallization is not true.
4] Invertor control for absorbent pump: Thermax GNxtChill series VAHPs
come with AC drive for the absorbent pumps which ensures that at part
loads, the COP of the VAM improves thereby resulting in improvedperformance of the VAM.
5] Multi stage level control at different locations: It has been proven
worldwide that for efficient and foolproof control of any CRITICAL application
Level controls are a must. Thermax GNxtChill series come with Multi stage
level sensing electrodes in High temperature generator (HTG) , Absorber
and Evaporator.
Advantages of Multistage level control are:
Increase life of solution pumps (absorbent and refrigerant pumps) by
avoiding dry running at any point of time
Ensures excellent and precise control of LiBrand refrigerant,
especially uring fluctuating part load conditions thereby increasing the
COP of the machine under partload.
Crystallization prevention at fluctuating load and low cooling water
inlet temperatures
Most of the other VAM manufacturers opt for mechanical float type control or
level control in HTG and / or Evaporator which is not very accurate and at
fluctuating part load conditions requires frequent resetting.

6] Vacuum seal Isolation valves for abs/ref Pumps: Thermax GNxtChill
VAHPs are provided with unique Vacuum Seal Isolation valves at the
inlet/outlet of absorbent and refrigerant pumps which ensures that there is
no vaccum breakage required for any maintenance/replacement of the
pumps. With the above valves, any maintenance activity (including
replacement) of the absorbent and refrigerant pumps can be done within
hours.
Other VAM manufacturers provide normal isolation valves (butterfly or gate
type) which are not vacuum seal type. Hence for any maintenance activity
on the absorbent/refrigerant pump, the LiBr has to be removed, the
suction/.discharge line has to be cut to remove the pump, LiBr recharging,
etc which will require 3-4 days time period.
7] Cooling water up to 10 deg C: Thermax GNxtChill VAHPs can operate
even when the cooling water inlet temperature goes as low as 10 deg C.
This is mainly possible only due to Real-time Online Crystallization
measurement.
Controls & Safeties:
1 Anti freeze protection 13 Refrigerant pump overload relay trip
2 Chilled water DP switch 14 Refrigerant pump not responding
3 Chilled water flow switch 15 Crystallization prevention control

Introduction:
Madhucon Projects Limited Are the EPC Contractor for setting up of 2 x150 MW Phase#1, Thermal Power Plant at tamminapatnam, Nellore Dist, AP forSimhapuri Energy Private Limited. This offer contains Vapour Absorption Machine& Accessories part of the same.
Operating Philosophy:
The purpose of the Vapor absorption machine is to produce chilled water, utilizing the Steam available in the plant. Chilled water thus produced from VAMwill be circulated along the AHUs of the Plant rooms, thus cooling the air flowing
through the AHUs & providing the required Air-Conditioning.. There will be raise intemperature when it comes out of the AHUs. This water will be again taken to theVAM for cooling the water again with the help of refrigerant. As the refrigerantbecomes dilute it loses its capacity to absorb Water Vapor. It thus needs to be re-concentrated using a Heat Source.
Total 3 nos. of Vapour Absorption Machines, 260 TR each (2 Working & 1Standby) are provided to fulfill the requirement of the Air-Conditioning.
The external circuits for the Proposed Vapour Absorption System are asfollows;;
1) Chilled Water piping system:
Chilled water coming out from the Chilled water return storage tank of willbe fed in to the Vapour Absorption System. The temperature of the chilled watercoming in to the system is considered as 14 deg.C & will be coming out at 7deg.C, at a flow rate of 112 m3/hr, which will be stored in Chilled water supplystorage tank. For this circulation 2 Working & 1 Standby pump will be used.
7 deg.C chilled water in the Chilled water supply storage tank will besupplied to the AHUs & chilled water coming out of the AHUs will be supplied to
the Chilled water return storage Tank. For this circulation also 2 Working & 1Standby pump will be used.
Chilled water circuit consists of chilled water pumps and associated pipingsystem (valves, piping, instruments etc).
