INTRODUCTION

Following the introduction of document L, it hasbecome a requirement to provide a robust seal tothe internal interfaces between different fa?adecomponents of a construction. The purpose of thisseal is to reduce heat and air leakage from abuilding and to help prevent interstitialcondensation.

To aid rapid construction techniques, contractorsdemand that a building is made substantiallywaterproof as early as possible during construction. The use of the Arbo EPDM system plays animportant role in achieving this aim. The membraneis usually applied between the window or curtainwall and the outside of the inside wall.

Increasing standards demanded by buildinginsurance companies on new constructions andimpending legislation means that window sealsmust incorporate additional robust seals and use ofan external sealant only will not be permitted as asingle line of defence against water ingress.

The Arbo Membrane system is designed to offer afully compatible solution to this detail that not onlyprevents water and air leakage but uses sealants andadhesives which are safe and solvent free. Drawingon the wealth of experience of laboratory testing wecan provide a system that will not affect sensitivesubstrates such as natural stone. The ArboMembrane system does not affect solvent sensitivepaint finishes and is compatible with other Arbosealants which may come into contact with theEPDM system.

Recommended for factory and site application

A unique single pack elastomeric thixotropicadhesive material based upon modified polymertechnology. Formulated to exhibit high initial grabwithout the use of solvents to a wide variety ofsubstrates. Many applications will not require theuse of a primer although Arbo 2650 Primer isrecommended for porous surfaces such as brick, stone, blocks and some types of concrete.Compatible with PPC Aluminium, Upvc and otherfinishes. Has shown excellent adhesion to mostmineral boards and other membranes (For furtherinformation please contact Adshead RatcliffeTechnical Services Department).

This adhesive can be used without a terminator stripin most applications. Factory application towindows requires a mechanical fixing to aidproduction and transport.

For new or untested substrates please contactAdshead Ratcliffe Technical Services Department•who will be able to arrange adhesion tests.

The requirement for brushing is eliminated as theproduct is packed in 600 ml foils for quick, easyand clean application. Waste disposal costs aresignificantly reduced by the small volume of foilleft to dispose of once the foil pack has beenemptied. For further information please consult our MaterialSafety Data Sheet, www.arbo.co.uk

Recommended for factory and site application

A unique single pack elastomeric adhesive sealantmaterial based upon silicone polymer technology.Formulated to exhibit good initial grab without theuse of solvents to a wide variety of substrates.Arbo 2650 Primer is recommended for poroussurfaces such as brick, stone, blocks and some typesof concrete.Compatible with PPC Aluminium and Upvc andother finishes.Excellent adhesion to both Arbo Membrane EPDMand other membranes (For further information

For new or untested substrates please carry out onsite adhesion tests or contact Adshead RatcliffeTechnical Services Department who will be able toarrange laboratory adhesion tests free of charge

Application method

All surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry and insound condition.Ideally the building should be cloaked to minimisedampness during construction. However components can become dampLaboratory experiments have shown that whereporous substrates for example fibre boards becomedamp the adhesion of ARBO MA can be improvedby drying the surface with a dry cloth apply onecoat of 2650 primer and allow to dry.

Arbo SA is not recommended on damp surfaces.Porous surfaces to be primed with Arbo Primer2650Minimum recommended lap to window 20mmMinimum recommended lap to substrate 100 mmTerminator strips are recommended when applyingin deep laps at head and cillFor application recommended sequence is; cill, jambs, head.Apply by sealant gun in approximately 8 x 3mmbeads approximately 25 mm apart. Press onmembrane by using an ARBO roller to improvecontact between substrates and membrane.Lap and patch corners where necessaryAny holes or gaps in corners can be sealed withfurther application of adhesive

We recommend that edges of membrane are oversealedProduct cures by reaction with atmosphericmoisture.

It is advisable not to apply when surfaces are below5 degrees Centigrade especially in damp conditions.(For further information on application of sealantsand adhesives in cold weather please see our website or contact our technical department)
