1 Pump introduction

1.1 General

The single- or multistage borehole pumps DPU(S) are produced by DP-Pumps.

1.3 Description of the product

The DPU(S) borehole pumps are designed for well diameters of 150 mm (6 inches) and larger. They are particularly suitable for vertical installation in narrow deep wells.

The DPU(S) consist of a single- or multistage, single-entry centrifugal pump and a rigidly coupled electric motor (when applicable, fitted to the pump afterwards). The pump is initialy designed for vertical, stationary use in water. With the restrictions as described in this documentation it can also be installed horizontally.

The suction casing, located between pump and motor, is equipped with a suction strainer to protect the pump from coarse particles in the fluid. The DPU(S) borehole pumps are equipped with a check valve, and are available with internal thread or flanged end.

1.4 Functional principle

The liquid is sucked in through the pump inlet on the suction side under minimum pressure. The pump increases the pressure. The liquid leaves the pump through the pump outlet on the delivery side under increased pressure.

1.6 Performance range 60 Hz

1.7 Performance curve details

The preceding diagrams give a global overview of all the pump models mentioned in this documentation. Detailed characteristics are given at each model. The performance of the pumps depends on the number of stages.

The motors used during performance testing are calibrated Franklin motors used for test purposes only. The detailed performance curves show pump performance at actual speed.

The detailed performance curves as published include possible losses such as non-return valve loss. When multistage borehole pumps are used without non-return valve the actual head at nominal performance may be increased by 0.5 to 1.0 m (1.65 to 3.30 ft).

The detailed performance curves are in accordance with ISO 9906 Annex A.

The characteristics given are based on:• Deaerated water of 20 °C (68 °F)• Density of 1.0 kg/dm3 (0.036 lbs/inch3)• Kinematical viscosity of 1 mm2/s (1 cSt)

When using a pump for pumping liquids with a higher density or viscosity than that of water, motors with a higher motor power must be used accordingly.

1.8 Performance with frequency inverter

The minimum frequency of the DPU(S) motor should be limited to ensure sufficient cooling (See technical specifications of the motor concerned). When the

rotational speed exceeds the nominal speed of the motor, make sure that the power output of the motor is suitable to drive the corresponding pump model.
