Air-conditioning system « Air Inlet» The fresh-air inlets perfectly serve a quantity-controlled and aim-directed fresh air supply to the building. Ventilation pipe By means of the insulated ventilation pipes, the pollutants loaded house air can be conducted via the ceiling outside by a fan, while fresh air is lead inwards. The insulation has a heat transfer coefficient of 0.6 W/m² x K and a heat conductance of 0.024 W/m x K, which prevents the formation of condensation water. The ventilation pipes are foamed from polyurethane (PUR) and are coated on both sides. There are two different types of pipes: ventilation pipe «Vlies» and ventilation pipe «Venti». The ventilation pipe «Vlies» is coated with a glass-fleece foil inside, and a glass-fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) outside. The ventilation pipe «Venti» is coated with glass-fibre reinforced plastics (GRP) on both sides. Both pipes can be combined with each other. Ventilation pipes «Venti» can particularly well be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner. We also recommend to principally installing fans in this type of ventilation pipes. When mounting, the pipes are glued and sealed with the pipe-glue «Sipur 2000». The optimised wall thickness of our pipes allows a low-priced transport, as several pipe sizes can be nested into one another. Thus, the ventilation pipe with an inside diameter of 920 mm (D92) can contain up to five other pipes with smaller diameters (Example: D92 => D82, D73, D65, D52 and D42), see Table 1.

Half-shell pipe Our half-shell ventilation pipe is foamed from polyurethane (PUR) as well. The coating is made up of a GRP-sheet on both sides. The wall thickness equals 40 mm, thereby matching the wall thickness of a standard ventilation pipe system. Due to their 'tongue and groove system', the half-shell pipes can be combined with standard ventilation pipes and all corresponding accessory – an adapter is not required! The two halves of the half-shell pipe are united via plastic profiles; the process can be carried out by one single person.

Pipe bend 90 ° The technical construction of the bends corresponds the construction of ventilation pipes. Here, as well, we offer the option «Venti» and «Vlies». The pipe bends «Venti» can particularly well be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner. By default, the bend is delivered in an angular degree of 90, but it is also possible to manufacture any angle between 46 and 90 degrees. In case that another angle than 90° is needed, please specify this during the order.

Diffuser The diffusers optimally conduct the exhausting air – therewith increasing the effectiveness of the ventilation pipe system. Furthermore, rainwater can disappear between the exhausting chimney and the diffuser. The dimension sizes refer to the inner diameter of the corresponding pipe. The diffuser can be removed from the pipe at any time. The mounting system developed by HSI allows a mounting of the diffuser with no need of any additional assembly aid. The fasteners are pre-assembled on the diffuser and allow an unproblematic piling. (Mounting procedure: see illustration below)

Roofing membrane universal The roofing membrane provides a permanent sealing between the ventilation pipe system and the roof. The fabric patterned surface also allows a better bonding. The material is UV-resistant and has an authorisation under DIN EN 12691 "Bondage for Buildings".

Glue for the «roofing membrane universal» To bond the roofing membrane, we recommend the glue «Sicon 5000».

Roofing panel GRP Our roofing panels are manufactured from fibre-glass reinforced plastic material (GRP). In order for us to adjust the panels to your individual requirements, we need to know the exact pitch, which you can specify during the order. The roofing panels are sealed off by a sealing tape with a width of 10 cm (see p. 13).

Sealing tape The sealing-tape system with a width of 100 mm has both excellent ductile and self-adhesive qualities and can be used almost unrestrictedly in the roof area. It is perfectly suitable for sealing off the intersection between the ventilation pipe and the roofing panel. The dimension sizes refer to the inner diameter of the corresponding pipe.

Pipe glue «Sipur 2000» The ventilation pipes are stuck together with the pipe-glue «Sipur 2000». Additionally, the glue can be used for sealing the glued corners. After drying, the glue stays elastic. The glue is available in the colours brown and grey.

Intake nozzle The intake nozzles are bonded on both ends of the ventilation pipe by the glue «Sipur 2000». The aerodynamic geometry of the nozzles facilitates a smooth airflow, which increases the effectiveness of the ventilation system. We offer two different types of intake nozzles: the intake nozzle PS and the intake nozzle PUR big. The nozzle PUR allows a higher efficiency factor as the air is lead outside over a longer way.

Rainhood The rainhood prevents the rainwater from entering the livestock house. It is produced from glass fibre reinforced plastics. All accessory and mounting parts, which are included in the delivery, consist of plastics and/or stainless steel.

The rainhoods can be delivered with a bird screen on request. Bird screens are available for both, the intake nozzle PS and the intake nozzle PUR big.

Water collecting basin With bad weather conditions, it is possible that rain water enters the pipe. In order to keep the animals away from the remaining rain, water collecting basins are used. The basins are hung under the ventilation pipe by three chains and the corresponding mounting material. Different types of fastener systems can be used here, depending on the different types of intake nozzles.

Regulating damper module Ø42, Ø52, Ø65 and Ø73

The regulating damper module is used to control the exhaust air flow. It can be applied for an individual off-take system and/or for a central off-take system. Selectively, the module can be equipped with an actuator having an open-close control or 3-point control, or with a modulating actuator. For the most part, the damper module consists of plastic material, while the adjustment mechanism is made of stainless special steel. A motor cover protects the adjustment mechanism from dust and splash water. The regulating damper module can be fastened to the ventilation pipe by glue or by a pivoting device (see p. 19).

Chimney damper manually operated / motor driven

These air dampers for chimneys allow a modulating control of the air flow streaming through the ventilation pipe. The chimney damper with manual operation can be adjusted by a slide system (see below). With the motor-driven damper, this mechanism is replaced by a servo (rotation) actuator, which can be fixed directly on the wave. All components are made from stainless special steel or from high-class plastic. The aerodynamically formed rib geometry gives the chimney damper a very high stability while maintaining a low air resistance. In larger ventilation pipe diameters, the chimney dampers are supported additionally by two sheet metals.

Butterfly chimney damper (material: stainless steel ) The butterfly chimney damper opens in dependence to the speed of the air-stream. With the help of weights, the damper can be regulated via a lever.

Overlying top chimney damper In case of exceptional climatic conditions, it is possible that the rainwater enters the ventilation shaft. In this case, the «overlying top chimney damper» can be used. The damper overlies on the pipe-top and thus protects the pipe-interior. The top chimney damper can be regulated by the air-stream speed or by an actuator. Depending on the mode of regulation, the operation fully corresponds to the «butterfly chimney damper», or the «regulating damper module with an actuator».

Supporting ring for fans

The supporting ring for fans developed by HSI enables a fastening of fans in the ventilation pipe system. The ring is compatible with different fans of the prevalent producers having three or four collets. By default, four fastenings are delivered. When ordering, it is not necessary to specify the exact type of the fan. It is possible to assemble the supporting ring for fans and the anchorage ring on the same height, using one set of bolts (see the figure below).

Storm bracing and pipe clamps

The pipe clamps are manufactured from stainless special steel. They stabilize the detached pipe-system. Recommendation: Detached pipe-systems with a height of 2 m and higher should be stabilized with storm bracings and pipe clamps.

The pipe-system is tightened with three wire ropes as pictured above. The storm bracings connect the wire ropes to the ventilation pipe.

In extremely cold climate zones it can be advisable to use a recirculation fan. The latter can be ordered directly with the AD or be retrofitted any time.

Operation mode:

The recirculation fan builds a supporting air layer which absorbs the cold incoming air from the AD. Thus, through the combination AD-recirculation fan, the cold fresh air is mixed with the warm house air and optimally distributed in the building. a

Application area:

In principle, the AD can be used in all kinds of livestock houses. However, its application turns especially advanta-geous, if:

� … the usage takes place in especially cold areas.

� … the livestock building does not have an intermediate ceiling or an attic (roof=ceiling).

� … the building shows structural limitations, such as shown by very wide and long monoblock-design and block-design farms with several sections inside.

� … it is not possible or not desirable to apply a fresh-air supply through air inlets or air ceilings

� … an even-pressure or low-pressure ventilation through the roof shall be applied.

Advantages:

� The constructively advantageous form and functionality of the AD is perfectly suitable for climate zones which are especially cold.

� The aerodynamically beneficial cone design of the distributing disc, moreover, does hardly allow any losses caused by swirls – as contrary to other systems in the market.

� For the most part, the system can do without any recirculation fan due to the co-operation of the distributing disc and –ring (patent-registered system!)

→ Energy saving!

� The AD can be driven by a rope or a motor actuator.

Exhausting chimney with a fan

The air-distributor (AD) provides a steady fresh-air distribution in the livestock building. It is assembled just below the building roof and leads the fresh air from the outside through the roof area to the inside of the building. Here, the fresh air is subsequently delivered through the distributing disc and –ring.

The air-distributor distributes the fresh air evenly and spaciously in a 360°-angle. To a large extend , its air capacity is regulated by the air capacity of the exhausting fan and by its opening level (distance of the distributing disc from the pipe bottom).

Calculation and positioning

In order to achieve a balanced supply of fresh air, it is important to evenly position the supplying chimneys in the building. Thereto, the house shall be divided in preferably equal and equilateral rectangles. The air-distributor shall be placed in the middle of each such rectangle (see Fig. 4, distances “a” and “b”). The side dimensions of the rectangles shall be between 5 m and 18 m.

Ideally, the ‘length-to-width-ratio’ of the rectangles should be (almost) equal (see Fig. 4). In the worst case, this ratio should not exceed 1:1.5 – meaning that an 18 m long rectangle shall have a width of minimum 12 m (see Fig. 5).

Note:

In the case that the distance between two air-distributors is less than 7 m we recommend to assemble them vertically offset!

Air inlet The fresh-air inlets perfectly serve a quantity-controlled and aim-directed fresh air supply to the building. Depending on the ventilation type, the inlets are installed in walls or ceilings. Due to the curved flap, the fresh air can be perfectly led into the building. All air inlets are produced from PVC. Thanks to the smooth surface, the inlets are very easy to clean and disinfect. The air inlets are controlled and activated via a lever (manual operation, see p. 28) or via servo actuators (see p. 30 and 31).

Air inlet for wall installation – ZVW The air inlets for wall installation are provided with bird screen by default. They are available in the heights 345 - 395 - 445 - 495 mm. The depth is 100 mm by default and can be extended in 50 mm steps. The width is optional and can be defined by the customer depending on the wall opening.

Air inlet for ceiling installation – ZVD The air inlets for installation in ceilings provide good and equally regulated ventilation. The ceiling inlet is available in a single or a double-flap design. The single-flap inlet has a default width of 320 mm, while the double-flap’s default width equals 600 mm. However, the default width is extendable. The height is extendable in 50 mm steps form 100 mm upwards. The length is optional and can be defined by the customer depending on the needed air output.

Lever for air inlets

Windbreak for wall air inlets The windbreaks are produced from ultraviolet-resistant glass fibre reinforced plastic. They can easily be installed in front of the wall air inlets as well as in front of wall fans. The windbreaks can be fastened by screwing the 50 mm wide flanges on the wall. The default colours of the breaks are brown and grey. However, on request, they can be produced in other colours and sizes as well.

Diverter pulleys The diverter pulleys are produced from plastic, while all metal parts are produced from stainless special steel. They guide nylon ropes or wire ropes of a maximum diameter of 5 mm. All pulleys are delivered pre-assembled. It is possible to drive several air inlets with one actuator. Therefore, the air inlets are connected with a taut wire.

Linear actuator

The linear actuators of the producer Belimo can be used to drive air inlets and other ventilation valves. The maximum traction accounts 450 N. For a stroke of 100 mm, the motors need approx. 150 seconds. The stroke length can be adjusted up to 300 mm via mechanical stops. An unlock-key on the actuator allows to manually actuating the air inlet / valve after assembling. Furthermore, elongated holes in the wall bracket enable a retrospective tensioning of the rope.

Linear actuator 1000 N and 2000 N The linear actuators perfectly fit to drive air inlets and air distributors, as well as other flaps, doors etc. A plastic case protects the actuator from dust and moisture. The spindle, made from stainless special steel, has a maximum stroke of 400 mm. A quick and easy assembly on the wall is provided by the wall bracket (material: stainless steel) with an anti-twist protection. The actuator can be mounted horizontally as well as vertically. Due to a built-in potentiometer, the actuator is able to find its position after a power failure.

The servo actuators by the producer Belimo are used to operate air dampers. The actuators are available in the versions 24 Volt and/or 230 Volt as modulating 2 – 10 V or as open-close or 3-point control types. The required capacity, or the torque, is calculated according to the damper sizes. The actuators are available with an auxiliary switch, as well as without. An auxiliary switch or a potentiometer can be retrofit anytime. The angle of rotation can be varied using mechanical end stops. An unlock-key on the actuator enables a manual adjusting after assembly. To prevent twisting, the actuators can be equipped with an anti-twist protection which can be combined with most of the servo actuators.

Accessories for rotary actuators

The auxiliary switches are attached directly to the clamp of the damper actuator. They are used to signal positions or to execute switching functions in any angular position. This auxiliary switch is suitable for all damper actuators LM, NM, SM and GM.

The feedback potentiometers are used for modulating damper controls in conjunction with rigid feedback controllers. In combination with standard systems, these potentiometers are also used as damper position indicators or as positioners for actuators operated in parallel. A form-fit engagement is created between a driver disc and the clamp, causing the rotary movement of the damper actuator to be directly transferred to the feedback potentiometer. The feedback potentiometers are attached directly to the clamp of the damper actuator. The guiding grooves between the housing and the switch ensure a tightly sealing fit.

The anti-twist protection is used to secure the actuator on the motor-driven chimney damper. This bracket is suitable for all our pipe diameters and almost all Belimo damper actuators. Note! The anti-twist protection cannot be combined with actuators AF (spring-returns with a torque of 15 Nm ).

The motor cover for the motor-driven chimney damper is made from high-quality plastic and is adjusted to the corresponding ventilation pipe diameters. Retrospect adjustments on the actuator are made possible through an easy removal of the cover.

Fan module The fan module serves a simplified installation of the ventilation pipe system. The module is delivered pre-assembled and consists of a casing (material: foamed polyurethane with a high compression degree), a fan by the producer Ziehl-Abegg, and, optionally, an intake nozzle PUR big (see p. 15). The fan module can be fastened to the bottom of the ventilation pipe via glue or a pivoting device (see p. 19). The fan itself is installed in the upper part of the module. On demand, a modulating shutter system can be placed under the fan module.

Ventilation ceiling XPS The ventilation ceiling XPS is used to evenly distribute the incoming fresh air. The conic form of the holes enables a laminar air inflow into the housing. When ordering, please specify the required air capacity in m³/h/m² - which is regulated via the distance between the rows of holes. The ceiling sheets can be perforated for an air capacity ranging from 100 m³/h/m² to 380 m³/h/m². A part-perforation is possible as well. The XPS-ceiling sheets are bolt on the substructure and can be connected through their groove-and-tongue system. Please keep in mind to position the joints of the sheets in a staggered way. Place the bolts as pictured below. Approx. 4-5 bolts are needed per 1 square meter.

Ventilation ceiling PVC/PS/PVC By means of the ventilation ceilings, the fresh air is distributed evenly in the building. A laminar air inflow is made possible by the conic form of the holes. The ceilings are offered in different materials. Their air capacity is regulated by the distance between the rows of holes. When ordering, please specify the required air capacity in m³/h/m². The sheets are connected by plastic profiles.

Ceiling trapeze

The ceilings trapeze, made from glass fibre reinforced plastics (GRP), evenly distribute the incoming fresh air in the housing. The upper side is insulated with a hydrophobised, fleece-coated mineral-fibre felt. We recommend an insulation of 80 mm to meet a sufficient insulance and an optimal airflow. Through the insulation and the slotted trapeze-ceiling, the fresh air streams-in evenly. The ceiling sheets can be used for an air capacity up to 350 m³/h/m². A part-slotting is possible as well.

These ventilation ceilings are predominantly used in large housings and sections, as it is aerodynamically unfavourable there to lead the incoming air through long air channels. Instead, the ceiling trapeze distributes the air on the whole housing area at a low resistance rate.

Automatic feeder «Feedliner» The Feedliner by HSI perfectly suits a feeding with CCM / flour mixes with a high CCM – proportion, as well as a feeding with flour, pellets and wet corn. These food sorts can be dosed extra finely by the easy to use regulation mechanism. By means of the round feeder, the Feedliner provides a generous animal / feed space ratio which rules out battles for dominance. A bolster inside the feeder prevents the animals pushing the food outside the feeder. This increases the food conversion and extends the economic life-time of the (concrete) slatted floor. The heater «Aqua Comfort» provides for an even distribution of warmth inside the farrow nest. In order to facilitate its installation, the heater is filled with water from top after the installation. Thus, it is refillable anytime. The filing ensures an even distribution of warmth between the steel heating inductor and the surface area of the plate. Control system for heating plates

The control system produced by HSI operates compatibly with the heating plates. An integrated pump provides the circulation of water through the heaters whose temperature is regulated by a thermostat installed at the supply line. By means of this thermostat, the optimal temperature for the animals can be set. Initial fill 1. De-aeration of the main pipe: open the thermostatic valve 2.0 (pre-adjustment approx. 50°C to 70° C ); open 12.0; lock

9.X and 7.0; de-aerate where appropriate (let water run through until the air has escaped).

2. Lock 12.0, 2.0 and 9.X; connect a water hose to 7.0 and open it, open 9.1 and 10.0 and let the water run through until the

air has escaped; lock 9.1 and 10.0 afterwards.

3. Open 9.2, repeat Step 2.

4. De-aerate all heating circuits sequentially to the last circuit.

5. Lock 7.0; open 12.0 and 2.0 – pre-adjustment approx. 40° C; open 9.X.

6. Connect the pump.

7. Test-run the control system and set the thermostatic valve to the desired heating plate temperature.

8. When using control systems with a flow rate indicator, please adapt the circuits with the 9.X – regulating valve.

Plug fittings and pipelines

The pipelines and fittings are made of diffusion resistant plastic. The connector system enables an easy and quick installation. Retroactive locking and re-linking of connections is possible. We recommend a pipe cutter when cutting the pipelines – to guarantee a fast and burr-free cutting. Both the fittings and pipelines are approved for heating systems and can be driven with hot as well as with cold water. The maximum allowable pressure load equals 6 bar at 90 °C and 12 bar at 20° C water temperature. The connecting system enab les a linking of aluminium pipes, copper pipes and steel pipes. However, steel pipes should be notched at the end in order to prevent the fittings from slipping. When using plastic pipes, pay attention to fix backup sleeves at the end to assuring a closeness of screwing. .
