The cooler weather is emerging and there seems to be an increasing number of students not wearing a school jumper. Parents are asked to ensure their child comes to school in full uniform each day. TEAM WORK, WORKS…

I have spent some time visiting classrooms over the last week and have been impressed by both the teaching and the enthusiasm of students. It is evident that the vast majority of our students come to school ready to learn and produce quality work. Being here each day ready and willing to learn is critical to success at school. We were delighted to be able to hand out certificates at the assemblies last Friday to children who had 100% attendance in our first term. Eligible students in Years 1 and 2 will receive their awards this Friday. NAPLAN – a snap shot! While much is made of NAPLAN in the media we remember that it is one assessment at a particular time of the year. Children had a fantastic time at the Cool at School one day as they participated in group activities and enjoyed the mini-fete with lucky dips, face painting, balloons and many other stalls.

Perfect team co-ordination!

We thank all parents who were able to attend the day – your participation made the day even more rewarding for the children. Finally, congratulations and thanks go to the Cool at School team for organising the day – the student mediators are certainly growing into caring, responsible and capable school citizens.

Reconciliation Week: 27 May – 2 June is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort. The theme for Reconciliation Week this year is Grounded in truth, walk together with courage. This theme explores the relationship between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. To foster positive race relations, our relationship must be grounded in a foundation of truth. MPS will be hosting a morning tea with community Elders on Tuesday 28th May at 11:00 in the auditorium, followed by visits to classrooms to look at the fabulous work of our students and staff. A warm invitation is extended to all families. Please come and join us! Good for Kids – Good for life is a special program to encourage healthy eating and physical activity at school. To see if this program helps schools and families to make healthy changes a research project is being undertaken by Hunter New England Health. A detailed outline of the confidential process (including lunchbox snaps and student survey for Year 5/6) was sent home last week. The information is completely anonymous and the permission note does need to be returned by this Friday for your child to be involved. I hope you are able to support the team in collecting data and at the same time gather some exciting and appealing ideas for lunch box variations. Kitchen Garden Year 4 members proudly received their badges at last Friday’s assembly. This is an amazing program that fosters beautiful social interaction (with kinder children), skills in growing fresh food and creating healthy delights – a real paddock to plate experience. Thank you - Mrs Fitzgerald, Miss Kleinig, Miss Pickerin, Miss Quirk and Mr Brown for your inspirational work. Stop Press … CHOIR excels at Narrabri Eisteddfod, yesterday! Singing in two categories, the senior small choir was awarded first place while a highly commended was awarded to Years 1-6 choir. Thank you to Miss March and Mr Roberts for preparing the choirs and to Miss Larken for assisting at the event.

3. P&C ASSOCIATION - CANTEEN NEWS:

The P&C would like to put a call out for Volunteers to help out in our School Canteen. No experience necessary! Required between the hours of 8.00am to 2.00pm, you may be able to spare a couple hours, half a day or a full day - any time would be greatly appreciated. We understand the day you can volunteer may change, or you might be able to volunteer one week but not the next, we can work with this. To volunteer or for further details please contact Melissa Lobsey, Canteen Supervisor on 026752-2342 during canteen opening hours. 4. MULTICULTURAL PERSPECTIVE PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION This state competition is about to commence with Moree Public School holding the school competition on Wednesday, 12th June. There are two categories – Years 3/4 and Years 5/6 and involves the presentation of a prepared speech followed by an impromptu speech. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop public speaking skills and confidence. An information package (including topics, tips for preparation and an entry slip) was made available to primary students at yesterday’s lunch time assembly but it is not too late to collect a package - please see Mrs Hosegood. Students are most welcome to bring along their draft speeches and speak with Mrs Hosegood at lunch times. 5. SPORT

Cricket: Congratulations to all the boys in the cricket team on how they played and conducted themselves against Ben Venue Public School in our recent match. Even though MPS did not come away with the win, the boys should be very pleased with their effort. Ben Venue reached our total of 97 with 9 balls to spare. A very exciting and close game. Enjoying the stalls …. COMMUNITY HEALTH NOTICE School-aged children who are infected with whooping cough usually experience a troubling cough that can persist for months, but they rarely get severe illness. However they can spread the infection to younger siblings and other more vulnerable people, who are at higher risk of severe disease. Whooping cough can be a life threatening infection in babies. What can you do to prevent whooping cough?

1. Make sure vaccinations are up to date for all family members

Kitchen Garden News Congratulations to our 2019 Kitchen Garden Helpers! The following Year 4 students

were presented with their badges at last Week’s Primary Assembly: Asha Moore, Aaliyah Singh, Keirah Munro, Jakaya Smith, Darshan Senthil Kumar, Declan Yeatman, Shiara Saunders, Peyton West, Izabelle Ross, Makayla Dobson, George Pritchard, Jasper Taunton, Savannah French, Jack Rogers, Bella Singleton, James King, Jack Makim, Araya Berger, Matilda Hutchen, Travis Munro, Emily Maher, Haylie Turner and Henry Johnston.

The cooler weather and some rain have brought ideal conditions for our garden and the Kindergarten students have enjoyed spending their lunchtimes with their Year 4 buddies. They have planted silverbeet, kale, cabbage, beetroot, shallots as well as daisies and

pansies to encourage insects. The children have been excited to find fruit growing on the trees and harvested the lemons and made cordial.
