CCS at SCONE BEEF BONANZA 2017

CCS attended Scone Beef Bonanza last Thursday right through to Sunday. The children and cattle showcased an amazing

part of our school along with another 850 students from schools from far and wide. The hard work, commitment and

discipline to achieve what the children have achieved over the past four days has been spectacular, not only over the last

four days but months leading up to this prestige event that is held in the Hunter Valley every year. There were lots of

ribbons claimed by our cattle and students. The Waverley Steer Competition is one that many schools like to claim, CCS

cattle team were very excited when we were presented the Grand Champion Steer for this class. We were also awarded

many highly commended ribbons and our paraders won many ribbons in their heats. It is a lot of hard work from many

people as well as the students. CCS is lucky to have very passionate teachers in Mrs Thompson and Miss Watson and they

are supported by many parents. Sunday afternoon proves exhausting and slightly emotional as the wonderful CCS cattle

who have given our students so much enjoyment over the past year are then loaded on a truck for more judging only this

time not in the ring, they move on to the abattoirs and are judged on the hook. A more detailed report will be in next

weeks newsletter with all names and places along with our carcass results and our many thankyous.

World Teachers' Day World Teachers’ Day celebrates the work of teachers, acknowledging the important contribution they make to the community. Inaugurated on 5 October 1994 by the United

Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually in over 100 countries. The day allows students, parents and community members to show their appreciation for teachers and the positive impact they make on society. In 2017, World Teachers' Day was celebrated in NSW on Friday 27th October.

I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the magnificent work being undertaken across Coolah Central School by our dedicated teachers. Our teachers are passionate professionals and supporters of the importance of education for all students. They have a commitment to teaching and specifically to developing quality programs to ensure the best possible outcomes for every student. Thank you to every one of you for your hard work and commitment.

Last Week was extremely busy with many excursions. Year 5 and 6 went to Canberra for 3 nights. Years 3 and 4 spent 2 nights at Lake Keepit. Pre-schoolers came for Early Birds on Wednesday. Year 9 went to Dubbo on Thursday as part of the Aspire Program.

Year 11 English spent a night in Sydney. Kindergarten enjoyed a roast lunch on Thursday. On Thursday also selected Year 10 students attended TAFE in Dubbo and at the end of the Week Cattle Club students spent up to 3 nights at Scone as part of the Scone Beef Bonanza. These opportunities for our students would not be possible without the time and commitment of

our dedicated staff. To all staff who gave their time so these events could run thank you. I’d like to remind students and their caregivers that Year 7 – 10 Examinations are in Week 6 starting on Monday 13th November. Students should be preparing for these examinations now both at school and at home. As always I can be contacted at the school should you have any concerns.

In Science we will be looking at how different balls move and bounce and in Art/Craft we will be completing our special fundraising artwork. Please send in a drink of water and some extra fruit each day for our sip and crunch. Tuesday– Full dress Rehearsal Early Birds –Session 3. It was wonderful to see all of our new friends again last week. This week we will again welcome our little friends and

we can’t wait until we get to do some more fun things with them. We will be doing some special things with our computerised bee bots and we will also be going on a little tour around the

school to look at all of the fabulous things that our school has to offer. This session will be held from 1.30pm until 3pm in the Kindergarten room. Wednesday-Library I will be absent today as I have an Assistant Principal network day to attend in Dunedoo. I am looking forward to gathering lots of valuable information which we can use at our school. Thursday– Matinee performance Friday– K-6 Assembly Whole School Performance Night. Our big night has nearly arrived and we are all very excited! All of the students have been practising really hard and they should be very proud of their efforts. Thank you to all parents who have been busily gathering costume needs together. These will be needed tomorrow as we have a full dress rehearsal. Our Feast Day last Thursday was a fantastic experience for all of the Kindies. They thoroughly enjoyed collecting the vegetables from our very own vegetable garden and then preparing them in readiness for our feast. We had baked potatoes and pumpkin, peas, spinach and carrots as well as roast lamb. Our lunch was scrumptious and many of the students went back for second, third and even fourth helpings. A huge thankyou goes to Mrs Rindfleish for all of her wonderful organisation and assistance and also Mr Hughes for carving the meat. Congratulations go to Harry who has completed 125 nights of Home Reading and also to Holly who has completed 175 nights.

Enjoy week 4

Year 1 News with Miss Watson

Year 2/3 News with Mrs Ferguson & Miss Frazer

Welcome to Week Four! We had a fantastic time away on the Lake Keepit Excursion with 3/4 last week. The students all grew from experiences that challenged them

and showed them how much courage and confidence they actually have. It was wonderful to watch the students attempt and achieve beyond their expectations. A huge thank you to Mrs Burgess for organising the excursion, it is a huge job and everything ran smoothly and was so much fun. ENGLISH:- We continue to learn about and practice procedural writing. This week we spent time writing procedures about the day-to-day aspects of our lives. The spelling sound for this week is ‘ou, ow’ as in cloud and flower. As we were away last week, Year 3 were not tested on their spelling words, however Year 2 was and the Super spelling improvers from last week are; Evan, Zoe, Angus and Elke. Well done 2/3, keep up the great effort with your spelling!

MATHS:- We continue to follow our same structure of learning through the week and testing on Mondays. A reminder to all parents/carers, if you would like your child’s Mathletics logins, please let me know. I have already sent them home once earlier on in the year but can happily send them again. It is a great resource for the students to access to consolidate their in-class learning. ZOOSNOOZ:- The third and final note will be going home this week, please fill this out and send it back in as soon as possible. It is an important medical document that without your child cannot attend. HOMEWORK:- Well done to all students who have been handing their homework in, it is pleasing to see so many and please don't forget it is worth 2 PBL Stamps every time you hand it in. Homework this week is Contract 31. It is due Friday and spelling words should be practiced daily at home as well. We are all very excited to attend and perform at the Whole School Performance this week. It is going to be fantastic!

Some fun at music

Well what a wonderful time we all had on the excursion to Lake Keepit last week. It was great to see so many of the students challenge themselves in some way or another. I am sure you have all heard some excellent stories from the 3 days we had away. I would like to give a

huge thank you to Miss Frazer, Mrs. Gardiner, Mrs. Ewers and our excellent bus drivers Mr. Tup Wesley and Mr. Jim Golden, the excursion could not have gone ahead without all of your help and support. This Friday Night sees all of the students from CCS perform on stage in the annual school performance ‘The Genie in the Jukebox’. Remember to get in quickly if you would like tickets. Please take note of the great fundraising opportunity we are offering at school this term. The art works will be great and this year we are offering all items - mouse pads, sketch books, diaries, cards and calendars for purchase at great prices! All students will receive their own order form that needs to be returned this Friday. SPELLING: The spelling focus this week is based around

the sound ‘ou’ as in cloud and ‘ow’ as in flower. Spelling lists went out today and the weekly test will be on Friday this week. HOME READING: A reminder to all students that reading at home is a very important part of the learning process. Each student should be reading at home for at least 15 minutes a day either aloud or silently, all forms of reading are advantageous. Reading is the most integral part of all literacy work as it helps to build on vocabulary, spelling, comprehension and also writing. YEAR THREE MATHS: We will complete our unit on length on this week. It is still really important that all students, at home, continue revising their known and new times tables. They need to know and remember 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 10x and 11x tables. HOMEWORK: Homework went home today, Unit 31 is to be completed and brought back in on Friday. There will be no homework for Week 4 due to the excursion. A huge happy birthday to Indie for her 10th birthday this Thursday. We hope you have a fantastic day!

Year 3/4 News with Mrs Burgess

Welcome back to Week 4. I hope everyone has had a well-rested weekend after our HUGE week last week. I had a fabulous time in Canberra with the Year 5 and 6 students and I was very impressed with the behaviour

and exceptional manners and enthusiasm of every single student on our trip. We learnt a lot and we also laughed a lot (Say ‘WOW’!). A huge thank-you to Mrs Wesley and Mrs Rindfleish for organising such a fun-filled trip. I have also heard many stories from the Lake Keepit excursion. It sounds like they all had a great time as well. Week 4 has us back hard at work. This week we have a few play rehearsals in preparation for our final production this Friday night. I hope everyone has their tickets. A big Happy Birthday goes to Adysen, who celebrated her birthday over the weekend!

SPELLING: Our spelling focus for this week will ‘ou’ as in ‘cloud’ and ‘ow’ as in ‘flower’. I encourage all students to keep working hard on their spelling words, but also ensuring they know what each words means. This plays a very important role not just in our spelling and writing but also with our reading and comprehension. YEAR 4 MATHS: This week we will complete our unit on fractions and decimals before commencing a unit on area and perimeter. HOMEWORK: Thank you to everyone who hands in their homework each and every week. Homework completion is worth x2 PBL’s. Contract 29 needs to be completed this week and is due back by Friday. I am looking forward to another week of hard work and learning in our classroom as the end of the school year is fast approaching.

Year 4/5 News with Mrs O’Neill

Year 5/6 News with Mrs Wesley Welcome back everyone. It’s Week 4 already and we will be back into the swing of things again this week after our Canberra Excursion last week. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone that was on the excursion for your

fantastic behavior and the way you conducted yourselves whenever we were out and about in the city of Canberra. The week flew by and there were certainly lots of laughs along the way. Say WOW! This week we will be spending quite a bit of time preparing for our performance ‘Genie in the Jukebox’ which will showcase on Friday night. We are in for a big week again.

Home work and spelling have both been set for the week, so try to get into that early so you are not worn out by the end of the week. Wishing Eli and Maddie a belated Happy Birthday from last week and to Xavier who celebrates his birthday on Friday. Happy, Happy Birthday to you all. Have a great week everyone and keep working hard.
