Page 7: Teaching and Learning Elementary

Additional Considerations

• Two Mentor Teachers will be assigned to our Continuous and Extended Calendar Schools

• Results from the NTC Program Evaluation Survey (taken by teachers, mentors, coaches, principals and

district program leaders) will inform additional program modifications and enhancement

Math & Technology Adoption

Each piece is taken directly from the “Creating Interactive Elementary Classrooms” information provided at last month’s T&L.

Page 11: Teaching and Learning Elementary

Math & Technology AdoptionProviding teachers with better tools and professional development will increase their ability to deliver the appropriate instruction the student needs in a setting and manner the student is most comfortable with. These better tools will provide teachers with more time to meet individual needs of students and specifically design instruction to meet those needs.

Page 12: Teaching and Learning Elementary

Math & Technology Adoption

The informative data that will be collected from these better tools will provide our teachers with real-time data to enhance the students' learning opportunities. Via this implementation, and the ensuing progressive steps committed to by our district, exiting students will possess the knowledge, skills, and ability for future success in the next stage of their life.

BLENDED LEARNING IN DMPS

Page 15: Teaching and Learning Elementary

What is Blended Learning?

• Some of the students’ learning and practice takes place in an online environment.

• The teacher still plays an important role in delivering face-to-face instruction.

• Teacher integrates technology into instruction.

Page 16: Teaching and Learning Elementary

What is Blended Learning? What it IS

Utilizing available tools and resources to enhance and extend core instructionUtilizing software/technology data to guide instruction for students on and individual basisUtilizing resources to enhance and extend core instruction for students

What it ISN’TPutting a student on a software program that isn’t tied to their core instructionPutting a student on a software program and not looking at and interpreting dataExpecting a resource to be the primary provider of core student instruction

Blended Learning

Page 18: Teaching and Learning Elementary

Blended Learning

Time: This is currently taking place within our district. Students are accessing all sorts of information outside of school hours.

Place: This also currently takes place. Students are accessing information consistently while outside of the physical school building.

Page 19: Teaching and Learning Elementary

Blended Learning

Path: With the adoption of the new math materials students will now have additional access to resources that best fit their needs.

Pace: With the adoption of the new math materials, we will be better equipped to serve students at their pace as quickly as they are ready to proceed.

Blended Learning

Page 21: Teaching and Learning Elementary

Blended Learning

Many times blended learning is not a single form of these options. They are typically implemented within one another to meet the needs of the students in a given classroom.

We will be focusing on the Rotation Model with the adoption of our Go Math resources.

Page 22: Teaching and Learning Elementary

Rotation Model

A rotational model in which students rotate between learning modalities.

Modalities may include small group or full class instruction, group projects, individual tutoring, pencil and paper assignments. But it must also include a rotation of online learning.

Michael & Susan Dell FoundationCase Studies

There are many case studies available on blended learning. What consistent message comes across from case studies…

The field of blended learning is evolving. As we implement, a strong foundational base will allow us to build and evolve with the technology, our students, and our changing reality.

Staging of buildings for installation

• When looking at the hardware portion of the installation, there are three distinct areas of need.–Wiring (Data & Electric)–Whiteboard–Projector Installation

• Continually updated technology status webpage

Page 36: Teaching and Learning Elementary

Realities of the installationThe current goal being discussed is to have 70% of all elementary buildings

completed by the start of the traditional school 2014-2015 calendar.

Keeping that in mind, there will be hiccups and bumps along the way.

BUILDING TECHNOLOGY ACTION PLANNING TIME

Page 41: Teaching and Learning Elementary

Action Planning Focus

As you look at your building’s setup, what will be the most effective use of current and future funding, current equipment, and current realities?

What needs to be done on the “facility” end in your building to be prepared and eliminate “failure points”?
