Summary – All Subjects, All Levels This activity uses the game “Who wants to be a millionaire” as a resource to test students knowledge of subject matter in a multiple choice format.

Clowning around

Summary – Drama – Yrs 7-10 or Yrs 1-2 Through play building, students will be expected to develop a range of performance techniques suited to their interests and abilities. The work on the creation of character which develops from improvisation will be linked to play building and, where appropriate, to performance.

Character Mind Map Summary – English – Years 3 – 6 and Years 7 – 10

In this lesson, students create a profile of a character from a novel they are studying in class. All profiles are linked to a mind map that shows the relationship between each of the characters in the text thus creating an interactive PowerPoint presentation.

Exhibiting Art

Summary – Creative Arts – Years 3 – 6 and Years 7 – 10 In this activity, students are going to create a brochure for an art gallery combining research and images pertaining to known art works such as Van Gogh – Self Portrait; and students own art pieces.

Guilty or Not Guilty Summary – English, Debating – Years 5 – 10

In this project, students will participate in an online court case. Students assume the roles of those members of the judicial system, using email to present their case. Using the voting features in Microsoft Outlook, students have their say in determining a verdict.

International Hide and Seek

Summary – Geography – Years 5 – 10 In this game of Word Wide Tag, students work in pairs. One student ‘hides’ somewhere in the world and sends their partner email letters full of clues as to their whereabouts. Once they’re location is discovered, its TAG! And the roles swap. Students must hide in at least one city from each continent. The game is

concluded when each partner has visited every continent.

Its no Joke to Smoke

Summary – Personal Development – Years 5 – 8

In this lesson, students will learn about the effects of smoking and the diseases of the body that are caused through smoking. Students will use Microsoft PowerPoint to organise and present research gathered concerning the effects of smoking in an interactive presentation.

Our Community Summary – K - 2 - Studies of Society & the Environment In this activity, students create a virtual city with hyperlinks from objects, people and buildings to information slides. This activity is suited to group work with students working collectively to complete a presentation.

Meet the teacher Summary – Early Childhood – Human Society & It’s Environment In this lesson students learn about their school environment outside the classroom and the role and responsibilities of the people who work in the school. Teacher will make a Power Point presentation demonstrating students understanding of the school environment and classroom.

Labelling with LOTE

Summary – LOTE – Yrs 1 – 4 (Nouns) In this activity, students complete a worksheet that requires them to label an object using nouns from a given word bank. A formula has been inserted into the work sheet which registers each answer given as either correct or incorrect. For this example, we are using the language of French. You may use this lesson with any language study you choose.

Vivaldi Seasons

Summary – Science and Technology – Year 1-2

In this activity, students save images that illustrate each of the four seasons from the web. These images are then combined with Vivaldi’s classical musical suite ‘Four Seasons’ to create a music clip using Microsoft Photo Story 3.

Comparing Artworks

Summary – Art - Years K-6 In this activity students are encouraged to reproduce their own interpretation of an artists work. The teacher then showcases her student’s artwork using Microsoft Photo Story 3.

Mix and Match

Summary – Social Studies – Year K-1 In this activity, students use the pen annotation feature in PowerPoint to match the members of the community to their belongings.

Doctor Doctor

Summary – Social Studies – Year K-1

Students explore the different roles that specialised doctors fulfil in this fun, interactive game.

Roles and Responsibilities

Summary – Social Studies – Years K-1 Students play an interactive multiple choice game to determine the roles and responsibilities of members of the community.

Who am I Summary – Social Studies - Years K-1

Students are given a clue to the mystery community member. Read, the clue, take a guess and click the box to discover the identity of people in our community.

Interactive bedroom

Summary – Studies of Society – Kinder

Students use a digital camera to photograph their favourite items. Using Microsoft PowerPoint, students import their images and write an explanation of the relevance of their favourite item. A floor plan of the students’ bedroom is created in Microsoft Visio (optional).

Old MacDonald Summary – English, Music– Years K – 4 Students create a songbook utilising interactive sounds, voice recordings and animated features in Microsoft Power Point.

Summary – Studies of Society – Kindergarten

In this lesson students learn about their classroom environment and what are their roles and responsibilities in ensuring a happy, healthy, safe place for themselves and peers.

Virtual Aquarium

Summary – Stage 2 - Science and Technology In this lesson students will design and create a virtual Aquarium demonstrating knowledge of ocean life and ways in which they interact with each other and their environment.

What’s that called

Summary – Years 3 - 6 - English In this activity, students create a worksheet that requires their peers to label an object using nouns from a given word bank. Students insert a formula into their work sheet which registers each answer given as either correct or incorrect. While students choose an object of their choice to label, in our example, we are labelling the main parts of a flower.

Weather Watching

Summary – Yrs 3 & 4 – Math and Science In this activity, students use the internet to monitor the weather conditions of a chosen city for one week. Data is recorded in an excel spreadsheet and used to generate a graph illustrating the results. This graph is then imported into Microsoft PowerPoint and used in the creation of a mock weather report.

Creating Cartoons Summary – Science – Years 3 - 6

In this lesson students create a cartoon by importing images and sound files and apply movement through the use of custom animation features.

Year 6 Farewell Summary – English, Technology – Yr 6

Learn how to create a farewell video file that will be remembered long after the streamers are cleaned up and the DJ has gone home. Using still images and text, you can create a video file complete with music and narration using Microsoft Photo Story.

What I should have done in the holidays

Summary – English, Yr 2 - 6 Students always write a recount of what they did in their holidays. Here is a way to make their recount dynamic and more meaningful. Using Photo Story 3, students narrate their recounts making their everyday recount come to life in visual and audio multimedia.

Story Map Summary – English – Years 3 - 6

In this lesson, students create a hyperlinked outline of the plot from a novel they are currently studying. In our sample, we have used the text Harry Potter though this novel can be interchanged for with any narrative.

Where did that word come from?

Summary – Years 3 - 6 - English In this lesson students explore word origin – etymology. Using a novel being studied in class as the source of words, students and teacher locate unfamiliar words to study. These words and their meanings are then compiled in a hyperlinked personalised diary created in a Word document.

Harry Potter – Lesson Project Summary – English – Year 5 - 10

In this project, students create an information kiosk exploring a variety of aspects of a chosen novel. This lesson project contains seven (7) individual lesson plans which culminate into a final project. Each lesson plan may be used as individual tasks, group work assignments or a whole class project.

Sun Safety

Summary – Health – Year 4 - 6 In this activity, students create a Photo Story video file using still images, text, narration and sound files to advertise and promote sun safety. Throughout this lesson, students will gain an understanding and appreciation of Australia’s climate and its affect on skin.

Which Way?

Summary – English - Years 5 - 6

In this activity, students create an interactive ‘choose your own adventure’ genre slide show using Microsoft PowerPoint. The reader selects the direction of the narrative from two possible hyperlinked choices. Sound files are recorded and imported to accompany the story.

Walking on the moon

Summary – Science - Years 5 - 6 In this activity students will present information on space using text, video and audio to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills. Students will use Microsoft PowerPoint and Producer to present their information.

Multimedia Book Review

Summary – English – Year 5-6 In this activity, students write and narrate a book review on a chosen novel using still images, text and narration and sound files to create a multimedia rich Photo Story file.

Interactive Keyboard Summary – Music – Year 5-6

In this activity, students will build a replica of a piano keyboard and attach a sound file for each key. Students may then use this interactive keyboard to compose simple melodies.

Christmas Traditions Summary – Social Studies - Years 3-4

In this activity, students create an information kiosk where they must research the Christmas traditions of various countries (can use the same concept for other traditions).

Endangered Animals

Summary – Social Studies - Years 5-6 In this activity, students choose an endangered animal to research. Gathering images and information from the World Wide Web, students create video file of their chosen animal using Microsoft Photo Story. Students synchronise their video file with an information report created in Microsoft PowerPoint using Microsoft Producer to create a multimedia presentation.

Stereo Typing Summary – Personal Development – Year 5-6

In this activity, students investigate how stereotypes are used in advertising. Students then create their own advertisement in Photo Story demonstrating how stereotypes are used to promote a product or concept.

Graphing Dinosaurs Summary – Science – Year 5-6

In this activity, students research the weight, height and length of a chosen dinosaur. Data is recorded into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and graphed. Students compare the weight, height and length of dinosaurs and formulate hypothesis to explain similarities and differences between the dinosaurs.

School is Great

Summary – HSIE – Kindergarten

In this lesson students are assisted by the teacher in creating a Microsoft PowerPoint slide show which outlines their favourite places and activities at school.

International Dining

Summary –Social Studies – Year 5-6 Vegemite is enjoyed by many Australians but is it eaten around the world? In this activity, students research food from around the world and create an international menu using a template in Microsoft Publisher.

This activity shows you how to create a self marking spelling sheet using Microsoft Excel, including IF statements and auto-correct.

This activity shows you how to create a self marking spelling sheet for plurals using Microsoft Excel.

Ready Steady Think

Summary –English – Year 5-6

In this activity, students play a game where they are asked to think of word from a theme they are working on within the classroom. From that word, each letter must relate to the clue given for that theme. This activity makes a great class game and also lends itself beautifully to working with an interactive whiteboard.

Australia the Lucky Land

Studies of Environment – Yrs 3 – 6

Working in groups, students create a Photo Story film clip using still images of scenes from Australia to create a music video to accompany the national anthem.

Famous Australians

Summary – Studies of Society– Years 5 – 6

In this lesson students research and present information on a key Australian historical figure. All presentations are then linked via an interactive information kiosk using Microsoft® PowerPoint.

How Far can you Go

Summary – Mathematics– Years 4 – 6

Students design and create a template for a paper aeroplane using Microsoft Word. Students then print, fold and fly their aeroplanes recording the distance achieved in an Excel spreadsheet. This data is then illustrated as a graph.

Australian National Parks

Summary – Social Studies – Year 5-6

In this activity, students choose a National Park to research and create a virtual postcard using Microsoft Photo Story. Students synchronise their virtual postcard with a PowerPoint presentation detailing the geographical information pertaining to the National Park using Microsoft Producer.

Life on the Gold Fields

Summary – Studies of Society– Years 5 – 6 In this lesson students will create an interactive PowerPoint presentation depicting life in the goldfields of Australia.

Nursery Rhyme Detectives

Summary – English– Years 2 – 4

In this activity, students collectively brainstorm a list of nursery rhyme characters such as Goldilocks, Little Boy Blue and Jack and Jill. A mind map of these characters is recorded using Microsoft Word or Visio. Each student is then allocated a character from the mind map which becomes their ‘secret identity’.

Smarty Pants Summary – Mathematics – Years 3 – 4

In this activity, students graph the colour distribution found in a packet of Skittle lollies, M&M’s, Smarties or similar sweets. Results are compared and recorded against the results of other class members.

The Human Body

Summary – Science and Technology – Years 3 – 6

In this lesson you will u se Microsoft Power Point, to create an interactive flow chart demonstrating the function and process of a system in the human body. In our example, we are going to show the process of the digestive system.

Summary – Religion – Year 5-6 In this activity, students are asked to create an inspirational Photo Story to accompany the Lords Prayer.

Summary – English – Years 7 - 10

In this activity, students write and narrate a book review on a chosen novel using still images, text, narration and sound files to create a multimedia rich Photo Story file.

Story Map Summary – English – Literacy Study

In this lesson students demonstrate an understanding of plot by creating an interactive story map using Microsoft PowerPoint.

Waltzing Matilda

Summary – English – Year 7-10

In this activity, students are asked to analyse the meaning behind a well known song or quote. Students create a visual audio story using Microsoft Photo Story and synchronise it with a PowerPoint presentation detailing the song lyrics along with their own interpretation.

Courage, Mateship, Endurance, Sacrifice

Summary – English – Year 9-10 Students will consider the qualities of soldiers at war, as exemplified by the deeds of the ‘diggers’ at Isavura, and then consider how these same qualities have been exemplified by their opponents.

Amazing Anagrams

Summary – English – Years 6 - 8 This activity challenges students to think about anagrams. This task can be used with your chosen novel in which the student can demonstrate understanding of the text and predict outcomes through inventiveness.

Go with the Flow

Summary – English, Design and Technology – Year 7 – 10 In this activity, students demonstrate a sequence of events through the creation of an animated flowchart. In our example we have used the mechanics of a car to demonstrate the process.

To Be or Not To Be Summary – English – Year 9 – 10

Students learn about the life of the bard, William Shakespeare, presenting information in an interactive multimedia kiosk using Microsoft PowerPoint.

Bilbo’s Heroic Journey

Summary – English – Year 7-8 Students will examine the adventures of Bilbo in light of Joseph Campbell’s concepts of heroic journey, identifying the various stages of Bilbo’s rite of passage on an interactive map of Middle Earth. And to follow on from this they will compose their own account of the heroic journey.

Food for Life

Summary – English – Year 7-10 In this activity, students use Microsoft Photo Story to create a video about their lifestyle group. Then, using Microsoft Publisher students design their own fast food menu based on the Dietary Guidelines of their specific lifestyle group.

Online Book Review Summary – English – Year 7-10

In this activity, students use Microsoft FrontPage to create a visual representation of a chosen text. They will compose a video using Microsoft Photo Story and then will put together a website on their chosen book review and include images, audio and video files sourced from various locations.

Chimes of Freedom Flashing

Summary –English – Year 9-10

Students will compare and contrast concepts of ‘freedom’ in differing texts and contexts, and then produce their own work on an issue relating to their understanding of ‘freedom’.

The Crucible – A Comparison

Summary – English – Year 9-10

Students compare Miller’s ‘The Crucible’ with McCarthyism and Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’, and then produce a news report for video on a ‘witch hunt’.

Dream Home

Summary – Design and Technology – Year 7-8

In this activity, students use the drawing tools in Microsoft Visio, students design their dream home. Students then import this Visio graphic into Microsoft Publisher to create a For Sale brochure of their dream home.

Baa Baa Black Sheep

Summary – Design and Technology – Year 7 – 10

In this activity, students create a flowchart of the production of a good or service, for example, ‘The Production of Wool’. The flowchart is hyperlinked to information slides which provide detailed information pertaining to each sequence of the production method.

Backyard Blitz

Summary – Design and Technology, Agriculture – Year 7 – 10

In this activity, students create a landscape design using shapes, colours and textures. A key is created with hyperlinks to information reports pertaining to the plants, trees and shrubs used in the design.

Digging in the dirt

Summary –Agriculture – Year 9-10 Students will research soil components, produce a soil profile, and describe how soil is formed. Students will then detail why soil is an important issue, and offer up some suggestions for soil conversation.

Woodwork It

Summary – Design and Technology – Year 7-10

In this project students design and make a functional and aesthetic piece of furniture. Students will consider materials, tools available, time frame of the project and presentation of their finished item.

Nutrition Survey

Summary – Food Technology – Year 7-10 In this lesson students will recognise the value of good nutrition and eating patterns. Students will investigate obesity and lifestyle diseases caused through poor eating choices.

Design and Packaging

Summary – Computing Studies – Years 7-10 and Science & Technology Years 5-6

Using Microsoft Publisher, students design & create packaging for a fictional product after investigating techniques and strategies used to market goods and services.

Coz I’m Free Summary –Social Studies – Year 7-8 Students will examine notions of ‘identity’ as embodied in the life and actions of Cathy Freeman and write a newspaper article using Microsoft Publisher.

The Food Chain

Summary – Science – Year 7-10

In this activity, students must move animals within a specific food chain into the correct position in the chain. Using Microsoft Word students can drag and drop each animal into position to show a chain structure. This lesson would be very suitable for those classrooms using an interactive whiteboard.

Prehistoric Timeline Summary – Science – Years 7-8

In this activity, students give detailed explanations of how scientific revelations of prehistoric life have changed peoples understanding of the world. Students create a prehistoric timeline linking images of dinosaurs to relevant word documents and web sites.

Anatomy of the eye Summary –Science – Year 7-8

Students will research the structure and function of the human eye, and compare and contrast it with an animal eye of their choice. Information is then presented in an interactive PowerPoint presentation.

Send in the Clones Summary – Science – Year 9-10

Students will examine recent scientific undertakings, and discuss their potential effect on society from both a scientific and ethical viewpoint. They will present this information on a webpage, and encourage further debate via email, allowing for further comment and continuing discussion on the original discourse from other students.

Optical Fibre Summary – Science – Year 7 – 10

In this lesson, students research different uses for optical fibres in today's society drawing conclusions as to how communication technology has changed and impacted on the nature of the work place.

Interactive maps

Summary – Geography – Year 7-10 In this activity, students use the Internet to research the climate of various countries. Using the information gathered from the Internet the students then create an interactive CD-Rom using Microsoft PowerPoint which is used to demonstrate to their class peers their findings.

World Heritage Sites

Summary – Geography – Year 9-10 Students will be afforded the opportunity to research the notion of a world heritage listing, consider the issues involved with such a concept, and then present a multi-media presentation of one such site.

Global Environments

Summary – Geography – Year 9-10

Students are afforded the opportunity to select a geographical environment that piques their interest, and then assemble their research within a PowerPoint presentation to share with their classmates.

Mike Moore vs Crocodile Hunter

Summary –Geography – Year 9-10 In this activity, the students will produce a short documentary assessing the impact of people on the geographical issues of their local community.

Pin the tail on the rainforest Summary – Geography – Year 7-10

In this activity, students use Microsoft Student 2007 to pin point locations around Australia; or the world, where rainforests exist. The students can then link through to Microsoft PowerPoint or Photo Story files to provide further research information.

Australian Natural Resources

Summary – Geography – Year 7-8

In this activity, students choose an Australian natural resource to research. Gathering images and information from the World Wide Web, students create video from still image teamed with narration using Microsoft Photo Story. Students synchronise their Photo Story video file with a PowerPoint presentation on their chosen Australian natural resource using Microsoft Producer.

Summary – Maths – Year 7 – 10 This practical spreadsheet lesson offers ways to think about some of life's money problems, like how much will buying a new car cost? Students will calculate how much it will cost to purchase their dream car.

Stock Exchange Summary – Maths – Year 9 – 10

In this activity, students are presented with a $50,000 budget to invest in the stock market. All information including transactions, profit and loss, and individual share progress is recorded in a Microsoft Excel work book. Students write a report on completion of the program detailing learning experiences.

Australia’s Longest War

Summary – History – Year 9-10

Students will study the origins and progression of Australian involvement in Vietnam, and assess reaction to that involvement. This information will be recorded in a timeline created in Microsoft Excel.

People who shape history

Summary – History – Year 7-10

In this lesson students research and present information on a key historical figure. Students will initially gather information in PowerPoint which is then used to create a Photo Story video. Both are then assembled in a Producer presentation to demonstrate an understanding of their chosen prominent figure.

Australia between the wars Summary – History – Year 9-10

Students will research a significant Australian figure of the 1920’s and 30’s, and present an account of their life within Microsoft Publisher.

Propaganda

Summary – History – Year 9-10

Students will write an essay with use of multimedia in response to their studies, and then record their own radio broadcast in the style of Lord Haw Haw.

Almost Famous

Summary – Music – Year 9-10 Students will write a critical review of an Australian artist or band’s recording, publish their articles and then collate them for the school library’s general reading section.

Step back in Time

Summary – Music – Year 7 – 10

Students create a timeline with hyperlinks to music and video clips outlining the career of a chosen musical artist using Microsoft Visio.

Mr Johnson and Co. Summary – Music – Year 9-10

Students examine the influence and inspiration of those who had gone before on other musicians playing and compositions, and then compose their own piece using two of their influences combined with their own ideas.

Music and Technology

Summary – Music – Year 9-10

An understanding of the past can allow for further refinement and innovation in the future. Music is not created in a vacuum, but rather constantly draws on its legacies to be refined or challenged. Students will research the past and look to the future in this lesson.

The Sound of Music

Summary – Music – Years 8-10

Students listen to a piece of music, and create a visual representation of the themes, ideas and images portrayed in the music using Microsoft Photo Story 3.

Still got the blues Summary – Music – Year 9-10

Students will be introduced to the Blues and its ubiquitous influence on contemporary music, and then will compose a work based on the blues scale. Lesson uses Sibelius 4.

Compose a Jingle

Summary – Music – Year 9-10

Music is often a powerful factor in the success of a commercial, whether it is for radio or television. Students will use modern technology to compose and record their own jingle.

Living by your Morals Summary – Studies of Religion – Yrs 7-8 This activity is written for ‘People of Faith’ in Studies of Religion. In this activity, students research a person who has lived their life according to their morals and values. This information is presented as a multimedia project including images, recorded narration and sound files using Microsoft Photo Story 3.

Chart me Summary – PDHPE – Year 7-10

In this activity, students use Microsoft Excel to chart their class member’s progress at various physical activities. Students then produce results such as average, minimum and maximum results as well as charting the progress of their class mates.

Human Potential

Summary – PDH/PE – Year 7-8

In this activity, students analyse data from the Olympic games and hypothesise why over time we are achieving better results in the areas of athletics. Are we running faster, jumping higher and swimming quicker because of an increase in human potential or is technology the real winner?

All in the name of Art

Summary – Visual Arts – Year 7 – 10

In this lesson students create a PowerPoint presentation which showcases the artwork and techniques of a chosen artist. An image from the chosen artist is imported and hot spots are created from individual aspects of the artwork linking to information slides that explain the piece and its creator in explicit detail.

Summary – Visual Arts – Year 7 – 10 In this project you will learn how PowerPoint may be used to publish an Interactive Multimedia Information Kiosk, where students can click on an object to gain more information or branch to different locations.
