<2> Pre-Assembly

PRE-INSTALLATION CHECKLIST 1 Tools: The following tools are required

for the TC6 assembly and installation.1 - 5/16” open-end wrench and/or socket15/16” open-end wrench and/or socket5/8” open-end wrench and/or socketTorque wrench

2 Foundation: The foundation is critical to the integrity of the TC6 Tower. Consult an engineer for foundation design, to meet conditions unique to your site (soil type, water table, concrete quality, etc.). To assist with the foundation design, Brownie Systems will provide information relative to the tower reactions at foundation. NOTE: This instruction manual provides foundation recommendations. This is general information, only. Consult a qualifi ed engineer for your specifi c foundation needs.

3 Wall Attachment: The TC6 Tower is not a free-standing tower. The tower must be supported at various elevations, detailed in this manual on pages 19 - 25. The end-user is responsible for fabricating the support attachments.

4 Support beam: A support beam (see example on page 19) is required to transfer catwalk/conveyor loads into the TC6 Two Column Tower. The end-user is again responsible for fabricating the support beam. Minimum Material requirements are listed in the following table.

The TC6 Two Column Tower is an effi cient catwalk/conveyor support option, featuring a minimal surface area requirement. It is ideal for situations where space is limited. The Two Column Tower is available in 5’ [1,524 mm], 8’ [2,438 mm], and 10’ [3,048 mm] section heights, for 6’ [1,829 mm] and 8’ [2,438 mm] tower widths.

A) Use (2) tower columns, (2) diagonals, and (2) horizontals for each tower section.

B) Assemble the diagonal and horizontal bracing to tower columns at LOCATIONS 1 . Use 7/8” UNC x 2” grade 5 hex bolt, lock washer, and nut.

C) Connect diagonal braces at LOCATION 2 .Use 7/16” UNC x 5 1/2” grade 2 hex bolt, lock washer, and nut.

i IMPORTANT NOTE: The tower section should be assembled on relatively level ground. All bolted connections should be fi nger-tight only at this time.

WARNING! Install bracing so the column ear is “sandwiched” between the horizontal and diagonal brace. NEVER bolt tower bracing to the same side of the column ear! Note the position of the bracing (section A-A). Position the brace with the fl attened side of the brace next to the column ear (contact side).

Stack and Install Tower Sections

Assembly

2 install base section to foundationSee now the example on the next page. Install the tower (BASE SECTION) onto the foundation.

• Center the tower base section on the anchor plates.• If necessary, shim between column plates and anchor plates to plumb and level the base section.• Tighten hardware at all bracing connections, according to torque values table on page 12 of this manual. Verify that the tower base section is plumb.• Weld the tower columns to the anchor plates.Welding Requirements:Apply a 1/2” [13 mm] fi llet weld around the column plates to prevent water seepage. Use E70xx or E80xx welding rod. Attention: Certifi ed welding personnel are required for all fi eld welding requirements!

3 install the remaining sectionsStack the rest of the tower sections onto the tower base section. Use 5/8” NC x 2 1/2” grade 8 hex bolts, lock washers, and nuts at the column to column connections.• Stack tower sections until you reach an elevation where wall connection is required. See Bin Wall Connections Locations on the next page for additional information.• Tie the tower back to the support structure (i.e. grain bin).• Tighten all hardware connections according to the torque values provided on page 12 of this manual.• Repeat the above sequence until the tower is completely installed.

WARNING! ALL Galvanized - HOT DIPPED TOWERS require that Tower Top Plates be installed at the top terminating ends of each tower column. Use sealer caulking between the tower top plates and the column splices to completely stop leakage as required. Tower Top Plates are found with your hardware kit, and install using the column splice bolts, lock washers, and nuts. The installation of these plates will stop water from entering and pooling in tower columns. If any water was allowed to pool inside a tower column, the water could freeze and cause the tower column to split which could result in structural failure of the tower! In addition, a 1/4” [7 mm] hole must be drilled in the bottom of all base tower section columns to allow any water to escape that may enter into tower columns! Correct performance of this step will prevent freezing water damage.

Bin Wall Connections Locations

4 determine connection locationsDetermine the bin wall connection locations. The TC6 Two Column Tower must be supported at the following locations:

1 Bin eave. 2 Column splice below bin eave. 3 Every 30’ [9,144 mm] below bin eave column splice.

Bin wall connections must be positioned within 7” [178 mm] of column splices; an exception is at the bin eave. Connections between the bin and tower are acceptable at any point along tower columns. Each Column must be tied into an adequate support structure (i.e. grain bin) at the stated elevations. See pages 20 - 25 for suggested installation/connection methods.

5 install connection ears• Install tower COLUMN CONNECTION EARS to the top of COLUMN SPLICE PLATES at the bin wall connection location. Use the COLUMN SPLICE PLATE bolts and nuts for this installation.• Install STIFFENER CONNECTION EAR to the grain bin STIFFENER at the bin wall connection location. If STIFFENER does not have pre-punched holes at the bin wall connection location, then use the STIFFENER CONNECTION EAR as a template and fi eld drill (4) holes on the outside face of the STIFFENER for attaching each STIFFENER CONNECTION EAR.Use 3/8” x 1 1/4” grade 8 bin bolts and nuts for this installation.(Securely tighten all bolts!)

Use the following installation procedure at all bin wall connections and for all connection methods.

6a fi eld cut angle standoffsRefer to the examples on the next 2 pages. Confi gure your bracing as shown in these examples. Measure and cut (2) 3” x 3” x 3/8” [78 mm x 78 mm x 10 mm] angle STANDOFFS and (2) 3” x 3” x 3/8” [78 mm x 78 mm x 10 mm] angle STANDOFF DIAGONALS for use at each bin wall connection location. Cut each standoff brace to adequate length. Field drill holes for bolts at connection ear locations.

Connection Method 2: Tower Near Bin Wall

8a fi eld cut mounting angleRefer to the examples on this page and the next. Confi gure your installation as shown in the examples on the next page. Measure and cut (1) 4” x 4” x 1/4” [102 mm x 102 mm x 6 mm] MOUNTING ANGLE to the length required to extend beyond both tower COLUMN CONNECTION EARS. Spray paint cut ends with a zinc-rich paint. Field drill bolt holes at the connection ear locations. To fi nd the drill hole locations, make a drill template by marking the locations for the MOUNTING ANGLE drill holes. Accurately transfer the drill hole locations from the template to the MOUNTING ANGLE.

NOTE: MOUNTING ANGLES are not supplied by Brownie.

i IMPORTANT NOTE: The (2) drill holes closest to the angle upright leg must be drilled far enough from the angle upright leg so your wrench can successfully turn the bolts installed in these holes.
