    Tax Credit V. Deductiony Tax deductions reduce how much you owe in taxes by

    decreasing your income. This can put you down into a

    lower tax bracket, and that means that you will oweless in terms of taxes.

    Types of Tax Creditsy Education Credit:

    y The American Opportunity Credit: Allows 100% of $2,000.00

    and then 25% of next $2,000.00, up to $2,500.00y Lifetime Learning credit: 20% of $10,000.00

    y Credits available To: Taxpayer, Taxpayers spouse anddependents

    y Child Tax Credit:y $1000.00 credit is available for each qualifying child under 17

    y Phased out at $50 to every $1,000 of AGI in excess of $110,000

    Ex: 2 children AGI 124,000; Need to reduce the 2000 700

    (124,000-110,000)/1000x50 = $1,300
